Any chance the surprise collab was recorded for a surprise release soon?
I must say, Mariah is looking stunning lately. Absolutely gorgeous!

Any chance the surprise collab was recorded for a surprise release soon? Are you referencing the "OS" performance or something else? I guess it would be cool to put on YouTube so it's HQ, but other than that there's no real point to a release.

Way too many days left in the tracking week for me to get my hopes up... 4 more days is a lot! But glad it's trending well....

I would think Mariah would get the final week at least for number 1 as her metrics are usually incredibly high, and she is the only Christmas song that still can pull in high metrics after Christmas all the other sink like a brick.

Three weeks or nothing! JK :) it’ll be nice to have the next three at number one but for sure two is in the bag.

Why are y'all so confident? Early predictions two weeks ago had "AIWFCIY" at #1 (barely), but then Brenda's team pulled out the #1 with some tricks in the last few days of that chart week. In theory they won't do that this time since Brenda got her #1, but who knows? Either way those predictions show a close race so I am not yet getting too confident.
I would love 2 weeks at #1 this season just so it hits 14 weeks total and Mariah becomes the first artist with three different songs to spend 14 or more weeks at #1.

It’s absolutely mind blowing that she could eventually defeat Lil Nas X and reclaim her crown (as a solo artist too!) with a song with the most weeks at #1. While having two other songs right below that. Just incredible. She can easily hit this milestone in the next 2-3 years. I think it’s a matter of time that she’ll hit unless Billboard changes their rules.

I’m happy “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is doing so well and I probably sound like a broken record, but where is the love for “Oh Santa”???? Do the chants kills it for some adults or are the lyrics not as relatable??? I’ve always loved it and it’s a constant Christmas song add for me each Christmas season. I’m always bummed it hardly if even hits the streaming chart each season….

Most if not all holiday classics have a solid melodic foundation. It is also kind of weird to have a holiday song talking about someone's new girl being so weak lmao. Mariah has also performed "OS" everywhere (ABC special, CBS special, Disney, Corden, Rockefeller, Hallmark special, etc) and of course made the trio version, and "OS" still isn't much of a holiday hit. I think it's time for her to stop trying to make fetch happen and focus on a different holiday song.

Exactly. If the gp isn't feeling the song, it's time to move on and push another song from MCIIY.

I don’t know that she is trying to make it happen. I think she saw a good opportunity to perform it, and she did. She hasn’t done anything where it seems like she is making a serious push for OS. She may as well create these moments while she is in the spirit to do so. I can’t see her at 65 or 70 wanting to be on stage let alone with other artists performing. Create these moments for fans to go back to and enjoy.

Question. No doubt All I Want is a classic big time now. I was wondering about the 1994 Merry Christmas album. To this day I have never listened to it and hardly ever hear stuff about it. What's your opinion about it? From an outsider it feels as it never became a classic Christmas album say like for example the Bublé one.

So does that make it not a classic Christmas album to me too?

I said "from an outsider", in other words: me. I like Mariah, but I'm not a fan who knows everything about her. That's why I came here to simply ask about other people's opinions. If you see a list of the #1 Holiday albums from Billboard from the last 3 years, it's basically mostly taken over by Bublé the way Mariah takes over the #1 single during the same time. So by a consumption report in this country (not only Pulse people) I don't see Mariah's as big as Bublé's. I hear Bublé's album very often when i go to stores and restaurants. From Mariah basically only hear all the time All I Want. Am I insulting Mariah? No. I came to ask because my impression and sales data is telling me that apparently the album didn't become as massive as the single. As simple as that.

Why are you only comparing Mariah's holiday album to Buble's holiday album? Anyway Merry Christmas is 9x platinum in the U.S. and the biggest selling holiday album of all-time by a woman (and #2 overall in the U.S.). It might be the biggest selling worldwide. Obviously "AIWFCIY" is the biggest song on the album, but the album has three other songs that are platinum (Christmas Baby Please Come Home, O Holy Night, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing) and another that is gold (Santa Claus is Coming to Town). All of those songs have made Billboard's Holiday 100 as well. On top of all of that, Brandy has said Merry Christmas is her favorite holiday album. Kelly Clarkson has long praised the album, including singling out the original song "Miss You Most At Christmastime" (which Billy Eichner performed on The Late Late Show).

I kind of thought some of the lyrics could be holding it back and the chanting makes it a little to “Rhythmic” most likely. I listen to it so much every Christmas season I just got over that stuff. LoL, at making Fetch happen. Believe me I know she’s promoted it to death… Being a delusional mini Lamb I always think the public is going to hear the greatness I hear. Lol On a sidenote when “Oh Santa” was first released my cousins kids did a cheerleading routine to it and we listened to it many many times while they were visiting for the holidays. I thought that would have given my mother a good memory and be eager to hear each year.., But no….

You would think there would be more songs getting play from the album other than “AIWFCIY”. The other song that does pretty well from it is “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home). It makes the streaming Top 100 charts each year, but kind of gets eclipsed by the original. “Oh Holy Night” tinkers around the bottom of the Spotify 200 some seasons as well? For awhile she was neck and neck with Celine for best selling female Christmas album, but has taken over. I’m not sure if that’s in pure sales though?? And yes, I agree with you Michael Bublé has kind of become a current day classic with a certain demographic. I’ve even heard him being referenced as the new “King of Christmas”

Merry Christmas is a classic. I think many generations now have grown up with it. Her versions of songs are classic.
I am hoping for a Miss You Most push next year if we can’t get Where Are You Christmas? I think with the extreme competition for Christmas dominance now, it’d be nice for her to refocus on an additional, equally stellar song.

^But I would think she would want to push one of her "original" Christmas songs from either Christmas album instead of the standard ones.
The thing about MYM is that it is a very sad depressing song. And I would think most people would want to hear upbeat Christmas songs on their playlists.

^But I would think she would want to push one of her "original" Christmas songs from either Christmas album instead of the standard ones. She definitely does want to push her originals; we know how much being a writer is important to her. I wish she'd do a high profile "WCC" performance with John Legend. She could also do a duet version of "CTIITAA" with Michael Buble or someone and to try and push it more. Yeah I have a friend who loves Mariah but refuses to listen to "MYM" because it's so sad. I love it and think it's a great song, though. I think it would work really well in for a sad scene/montage in a holiday film. It would be great if someone who is a Mariah fan used it in a holiday movie. That's a way to really raise its profile. Of course another possibility is definitely Mariah releasing her version of "Where Are You Christmas?" and having it become big over time. People are familiar enough with Faith Hill's version that Mariah's version wouldn't feel like a brand new holiday song, but Faith's version also isn't so much of a classic that it can't be topped. Since Mariah was only minimally involved in writing it, though, I'm sure she'd still rather push her other originals. Keep in mind secular music is what is popular in terms of holiday music. If you look at the top 40 songs of the current Holiday 100, not a single one is rooted in religion. Mariah has some lovely original Christian holiday songs, but they would never gain widespread popularity. kmbgs

What is your opinion on CTIITAA? To me, a standout "classic" Christmas track in her catalogue.

What is your opinion on CTIITAA? To me, a standout "classic" Christmas track in her catalogue. I truly love that one. It does sound classic/timeless. I am not sure how "commercial" it is because of its jazzy nature, which is why I think she'd need to do a duet version to have it really get some attention. Still, I could see it being the music for a scene in a holiday romantic comedy when someone is doing some holiday shopping or exploring the city at the holidays.

One of the things that made me ask about the Christmas Mariah and compared to Bublé's album earlier today was when I saw the list of albums that recently reached #1 on the Top Holiday Albums chart from Billboard. It wasn't to say one was better than the other. Being Mariah the queen of xmas, I thought I was going to see her album all over this list. I was wrong and I was surprised. It was Bublé all over. This afternoon I did see a full top ten of I believe 12/16 and saw Mariah on #3. So she IS up there commercially currently. I had never checked the Holiday chart before. The different explanations you gave about the album, its sales, reputation and history were very informative too. I really didn't know. Thanks
