I am SO happy last night went terrifically! Mariah looked GORGEOUS and sounded GREAT!
But am I the only one who wishes there was some more TEOM songs on the setlist? I was kind of expecting a little less 90s songs and more album cuts…

Late to the MIMI memories party, but I vividly remember the night the WBT video premiered on VH1.
"It's Like That" had been such a nice start to the era. Her biggest radio hit since the Rainbow era and definitely indicated that people were ready for some Mariah in their lives again. I was worried when I heard the leak of "Say Something" that it wasn't gonna do much. I was relieved when "It's Like That" was the actual single. Good choice, looking back, and definitely the right kickstart to this era.
There was absolutely 0 initial buzz for "We Belong Together" or any indication that Mariah and her team thought they had a smash in the making. All of the buzz was around whatever the lead single was going to be. As we know, the pattern with Mariah singles always used to be uptempo first, ballad for single No. 2. So WBT was the ballad. I was absolutely floored sitting there watching VH1 that night. I messaged a friend of mine (on AIM!) and said, "I honestly think she's released her best single since 'Always Be My Baby.'" And I was dead serious. Tbh, the thing that had me so excited was that she sang the entire song in FULL VOICE. We had been wanting that for a while after Through the Rain and the Charmbracelet singles had a lot of whispery vocals. We wanted Mariah to knock us out, and she delivered. I was so thrilled when it caught on, and by Memorial Day, it was No. 1. It was No. 1 the day I graduated high school and still No. 1 the day I started college. What a monster smash. Seeing the album stay in the top 3 FOREVER was so exciting because it was such a consistent seller, even if it only spent the two weeks at No. 1. It challenged for No. 1 at least a half dozen other times during that run.
Shake it Off getting stuck at No. 2 when it obviously has the resume of being a No. 1 song was the only disappointment. But even seeing that song become a smash, when I didn't think it was an obvious one, was a thrill. The cherry on top was "Don't Forget About Us" getting to No. 1 as almost a victory lap for the era, and then FINALLY getting some Grammys love after all this time. Being a lamb at that time was truly amazing.

I think she looked nice and sounded great overall. I think there are only a couple outfits that weren’t the best of choices. Curlyriah always eats.

This looks and sounds like a great start to the residency!
I have to say that I want a new album badly, but between the last Xmas tour and this residency, she kind of needed this good touring publicity before putting out new music (and hopefully a mini-tour).

That 2006 Grammys dress was everything. Naomi picked it out for her. I love the overly long hair, the makeup, the bling, her whole look was #pow and low-key iconic. And her rousing performance of WBT/FLAB was another gem in that era’s crown. Now if she had won her rightful album and song and record of the year it would've been the icing on the cake, but... 😒
I’m so glad Mimi is performing “Circles”. That is my favorite song on The Emancipation of Mimi.

I’m so happy to see Mariah looking and sounding amazing as ever.
She has saved me so many times and has inspired me to keep on going…
I remember the first time I heard her, my little tv was on with MTV in the background and I heard the whistle note in the Someday remix and immediately I was like who is that!!! Fell in love with her and was in awe!
She got me through so many downs in my life, through college, medical school, residency. Now I play her in the operating room during my surgeries and the staff will even have her playing before I arrive in the room for me.
We played Fantasy in the delivery room when our baby girl was being born because having our baby was a Fantasy come true for us.
I can’t picture going through life without Mariah’s music and her example of hard work and determination.
I ❤️ her.

From the comments, LT Hutton is looking for the song. Sounded like a nice track. Hutton co-produced the 2003 Da Brat song Mariah was on ("Gotta Thing for U") so maybe it was written then. I looove the melody of "cause you're making me sad every minute". Meanwhile: It reminds me a lot of the "WBT" remix.

Today is the last day for R&R HoF voting. Mariah has 5 votes out of 23 people who have made their ballots public in one way or another. Most people who have revealed them are usually journalists who don't think Mariah needs their vote or die-hard rock heads who are NEVER going to vote for her. There are over 1,200 total ballots so the 23 is a small percentage. We'll see in a few weeks whehter she gets in. I think she does.

I enjoyed all the clips and performances so far from this latest VegAs residency, but surprisingly FOMM has a lot of negative things to say about this show??? They’re complaining about a lot of her outfits, lack of energy, dancers and saying she’s lipping 90 percent of the show to newly recorded backing tracks. I thought she sounded live for the most part but???? I would love to see this show! I was just surprised with the negativity on her biggest fan board..

To be honest, I saw a video of an IBT performance earlier and while I started out thinking it was live, it became apparent it definitely was not. So she is relying on updated pre-recorded tracks in at least some parts of the show.I haven't seen enough clips yet, but if she has started lipping to any of VOL that'll be a sad day!
That said, FOMM seems like a joyless place.

Having said that though, she includes live whistles in the song.

I don't think I'd ever heard The Boss tell this story before: :ETA: I guess I've heard the story referenced; don't think I've heard Diana talk about it like in that clip. :ETA2: So it was in 1996 as Dreams points out. Mariah of course covered "Do You Know Where You're Going To" in 1998, for the international edition of #1s (or maybe for something else but it ended up on there). I doubt that's a coincidence. In a way that airplane moment almost makes it seem like Diana is the one singing the song to Mariah as that would fit lyrically.

I remember that story (obviously Diana isn't elaborating on it in the clip) but yeah I instantly remembered what she's talking about: it's mentioned in that notorious "Tommy Boy" Vanity Fair article about Tommy from 1996. Mariah was flying back from England and she was crying, pouring her heart out to Diana during the flight about all the shit Tommy was putting her through. Here, it's from that night Diana was talking about, when they performed at TOTP in '96: (source for the pic: mcbutterflyroom.freeforums.net/)

Why do fans keep saying this? There will always be some lipped parts but everything I’ve seen looks like 90% live. When she lips she has little quirks. So not sure if she learned to lip like a pro, or if y’all could be wrong. The sound/ voice even sounds like it is coming from mic.
