That sad day has arrived. :( Having said that though, she includes live whistles in the song.
Why do fans keep saying this? There will always be some lipped parts but everything I’ve seen looks like 90% live. When she lips she has little quirks. So not sure if she learned to lip like a pro, or if y’all could be wrong. The sound/ voice even sounds like it is coming from mic. Not to focus too hard on the lipping because this is supposed to be a celebration after all. But this is the performance I saw and was referring to. The belting from 1:30 just seemed off to me and then she missed the cue at the 2:00 mark. I really don't know the extent of lipping, nor am I trying to focus on it - it was just an observation I made watching this clip. But I wouldn't be surprised if she relies on it less as the performances go on. I never go to early shows in a Mariah tour/residency because she always seems to need a few shows under her belt to adjust, relax and find her confidence on the stage again.

The 2024 inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will be announced live coast-to-coast during a Rock Hall-themed episode of American Idol on Sunday (April 21).

Did Mariah say she was going to release a single by then or were fans just hoping/guessing that would be the case?

Did Mariah say she was going to release a single by then or were fans just hoping/guessing that would be the case? Mariah hasn't said shit, other than saying she's been working on music for a new album. That's a very general statement, especially from someone whose albums have taken increasingly longer to get completed (and are more often than not delayed even when they are supposedly done). For years now I've been saying I no longer count on anything until it is actually released. I mean, for MIAM we not only had a release date but there were advertisements in Target ads...and then we didn't get the album for another full year.

Yeah, I don't think it's best to release something she has no interest, or her heart isn't in it right now. But I did used to think that Mariah had a love for creating new music and sharing it with her fans. It's kind of bewildering to me that she's dragging her feet on releasing new music this long to her fans unless something else is going on behind the scenes or politics that we don't know anything about.

There really isn’t any incentive for her to release new music. It isn’t as though radio is playing her when she does release music. It isn’t as though she is receiving awards for her music. She loves her validation, and there is nothing wrong with that. She comes alive during the holidays because she certainly is being validated and appreciated. I wouldn’t be in any hurry either if I worked hard on new music to not get some sort of recognition. She gets recognition for songs she put out 20-30 years ago. I would put my energy there too.

A lot of that is Mariah's fault. Nobody expects blockbuster numbers from her. But Caution was one big missed opportunity after another. The reviews were there, the music was there. But bad single choices, mid videos, not pushing aggressively at her core formats, the lack of remixes, etc. If she truly engaged with that album, I think at the very least nominations were a possibility. But she dropped it at the beginning of the eligibility period and it was long forgotten by the awards establishment (and by her) by the time it rolled around. And don't get me started on MIAM's rollout. An even bigger mess. And I think people forget just how much of a homerun the Caution era was in regards to Mariah finally getting her flowers from a lot of different publications and orgs. Releasing new music opens up more publicity and more opportunities to engage with her legacy and her discography.

I will be interested to see if Mariah makes it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It would be a good place for her to perform one of the songs from Someone’s Ugly Daughter. I know I would love for her to perform one of those songs live. I feel like you would have a better shot at getting her to perform one of those songs live over Prisoner 😂.

I don't care what anyone says it's one of her best songs to me. I feel it in my soul.

RIP Luther V. I'm glad she singing this again Mariah does seem aware/smart about what has endured well, and this cover is one that streams better than a lot of her #1s. I'm definitely glad we got a proper recorded duet between her and Luther (and her and Whitney). I wish we'd gotten a proper duet between her and Prince and/or MJ, but oh well. I really hope she does a proper collaboration with Maxwell and/or Janet sometime soon.

Most of us are expecting her to be an obvious inductee. We shall see soon.

I'm not sure if she is an obvious pick... There is a lot of top tier talent! surely she will get it eventually and deserves it, but I don't think she is a 100% lock for this year. We will see though!

I'm not surprised at all that Mariah didn't get in. It was pretty obvious from the general reactions as many people refuse to accept that her style belongs in the 'Rock Hall' (as they call it). It is wild, though, that Mary J got in when she debuted after Mariah and was even influenced by Mariah. It shows what bullshit this all is. Maybe the exposure from being a nominee this year will help her get in next time.
I'm thinking of that one asshat voter who said he didn't vote for Mariah because she was a shoo-in to get in. Fuck him.

To me it doesn't even matter if she gets in next year or the year after. I mean it's an accomplishment for her but I'm over it. Once nominated, if someone like Mariah can't get in, then there is definitely something nefarious going on behind the scenes. And I don't want to read that it's because they don't like her. That has nothing to do with being an inductee. Very happy for K&G and ATCQ. I think they've been nominated several times and now they're finally in.

I hope all of those idiots posting their ballots saying they didn’t need to vote for her because she was a shoo-in get dragged like hell for it by the lambs. I mean I know fan voting doesn’t have much of a sway, but Jesus Christ Mariah was just out of the Top 7. She certainly wasn’t at the bottom like some of the others. Some of which will be inducted.

That had nothing to do with it. MJB and ATCQ were near the bottom of the voting. Even if Mariah was at the top, she still might not have been inducted. And it also just occurred to me that a lot of the voters could have intentionally voted for other acts because they didn't want Mariah to do well in the voting. Which could explain why the sudden explosion in votes for K&TG in the last few weeks. Regardless, if Mariah is nominated again, I'm not wasting any of my time voting anymore. It obviously has no bearing on the politics and bias going on during the real voting process. I will say that ATCQ had been nominated twice. MJB and DMB were also previous nominated. And the other rockers who are being inducted this year probably have waited years to be voted in. And next year too will be other acts who have been waiting for years to get inducted. I regularly voted for Mariah, K&TG, ATCQ, Sade and MJB.

I don't have time to be pressed about the Rock and Roll hall of shame because I never paid attention to it prior to Mariah's nomination, and to be honest I'm still reeling and processing from seeing her show Wednesday. If you guys get a chance to go, do it. It was probably the most raw (in a good way) show of hers I've seen, and it had moments that made me unexpectedly emotional. We were up in the 400s section (middle balcony), but the energy from the lambs was rampant no matter where you sat. During "Hero" a man proposed to his now fiance in our section, which was completely unrelated to the show and made it clearer than ever the connection people feel to that song. My sister kept talking about Mariah's performance of "Looking In" after the show, and I'm pretty sure that solidified her as a certified lamb - the Mariah related insta shares between us hasn't stopped all week. FLAB seemed to have just as big of a reaction as WBT, which really feels like it is now an undeniable classic in her catalogue. The whole place was singing their asses off, and the crowd was just pure fun. Mariah sounded fantastic and really looked like she was comfortable in her element - surrounded by the unconditional and unwavering love from her lambs. The graciousness she showed the fans in the front and the banter/signing items back and forth was just as fun as watching her sing. That connection we all share with her is precious and unbreakable, and seemed to be on display all night. Just an absolute stellar night, I wont ever forget it. Cannot wait to go back and see her this summer.

I know it is just frustrating as it seemed we had turned a corner as far as Mariah was concerned where things they held against her before didn’t seem to matter. I don’t know it always seems like the line is moving where Mariah is concerned. I’m hoping for some new music soon. I hope when she does drop it too that it leaves people speechless and crazy like they don’t even know what to do.

This happens every year and is why, as you said, the fan voting doesn't ultimately have much sway. In totality it's literally just 1 vote of over 1000 votes. Lambs would do better to point out Mariah's impact/influence to voters than to vote in the fan vote.

I feel like Mariah is going to struggle the way that Janet did to get into RRHF. Of course I want it to happen next time, but I think it’s gonna take Mariah 3 tries. Too many still mock her and think she is t worthy. It’s a damn shame.

It always feels like an I don’t know what else she can do situation when it comes to industry matters. I suppose that is why she really does march to her own beat these days. To be honest, I was genuinely shocked to see her present at the Grammys.
