The Portrait remix is AMAZING. Best thing she has released since the Caution album, EASILY and one of the best things overall she has done in a while. I'm adding it to the playlist for a party I'm DJ'ing tomorrow.

I have a question, can this song be submitted for a Grammy as a remix? Yes. Just like the "Workin' Hard" remix was nominated last year in Best Remixed Recording. Mariah would only get credit for the nomination if she was a producer on it. If you are asking if it can be submitted in other categories, I think so but I don't think it would have any chance of a nomination considering actual hits like "Touch My Body" and "Obsessed" didn't get nominated. Mariah herself hasn't been nominated for her work since "Don't Forget About Us" nearly 20 years ago. Meanwhile I randomly listened to "Angels Cry" today, and it really is a solid song. The melody is great, the structure is solid, and Mariah sounds good on it. It came out at a time when she was really stuck on the 'ballad with a beat' thing, but removed from that it really is a nice track. |

I wonder when Rainbow 25 will occur since the actual anniversary is right after "It's time!" Maybe she'll couple it with the "Heartbreaker" anniversary in August instead?
We will be getting a new remix of "Rainbow Interlude" made with David Morales, so that could be cool. I don't know that there are any unreleased songs from that era since it was rush recorded. Well "There For Me" was recorded that era, but we've heard it. It's not on streaming, though, so maybe it will be added to the album in that sense.

What happened with Mariah and releasing new music? She used to be so consistent with new releases and it's like after Me...I Am Mariah and its underperformance she fell off that pattern completely. I know performance is important to her and I understand, but nobody really cares how she performs (she has nothing left to prove let's be real), we just want new music! It's been too long since Caution and given that album was incredibly good, we want more!

It's been too long since Caution and given that album was incredibly good, we want more! Life happened? But really, she slowed down post-Sony/Tommy. The 3 year gap between CB and TEOM was her longest gap ever at that point. It was then again 3 more years before E=MC2. She did then quickly release MOAIA and MCIIY, but then it was 3+ more years until MIAM. That gap was of course when she had the twins. It was then 4+ more years until Caution, meaning she'd only released 2 albums in 8 years. Madonna has slowed way down in terms of releasing new music. So has Janet, though she's always had bigger gaps between albums. I think it's just age and being in a different place. |

Mariah is just SO preternaturally talented. Vocals, songwriting, melody. What an insane body of work. "Fantasy" came on the radio today, and I suddenly I was 10 again and losing my mind to a masterful pop song and falling in love with this out-of-this-world voice. Like, holy fuck. There's nothing like this on the radio anymore.

Absolutely correct that 'Fantasy' eats everything on the radio. I can't imagine anything ever sounding as fresh and summery as the first time I heard 'shoo do do do do dowww' crackling out of a speaker on 104.5 the cat, and I still get that feeling every time I hear it. Perfection.

I can see us getting something similar to Butterfly 25 - maybe a couple of new remixes (including Morales' Rainbow) and some acapellas. Perhaps the version of Rainbow (Interlude) that was on the'Playlist' album released in 2010. It had a remastered version with an extended intro/outro (I can't remember the exact differences). In my dreams, they'll tag on the If Only You Knew/Over the Rainbow performance from 1998 - but I doubt good audio exists and I'm sure she's said that she hates that vocal performance ๐ข |
