I bet Janet doesn't really care, but I wish someone would to update her certs. Control hasn't been updated since 1989! Universal also owns both the Virgin and A&M catalogs so everything pre-Unbreakable is under one conglomerate.
At least Mariah's team and Sony seem to be on the same page about getting stuff updated. I know it's not profitable for the RIAA, but I wish there were automatic certs like the UK.

Speaking of Janet, she and her crew are vibing to "Honey" (among other songs) here:
Her crew member talks about Mariah jumping in the pool in the video, and Janet says "I love it!"

Really enjoying Rainbow 25. With a few exceptions (i.e. removing the whistle note during Heartbreaker's intro), I do think the original tracks are upgraded. The new tracks previously not available on streaming are great as well. "Rainbow's End", in particular, is amazing. She needs to do an entire remix album with David Morales.
The only thing I wish was available was a physical cd since I'm not much of a vinyl collector but it's not too surprising. Butteryfly 25 didn't get a cd either and (correct me if I'm wrong) neither of those had a vault track in "The Rarities" so I imagine there just isn't as much to release, music-wise from those eras. Hopefully, Daydream 30 will the Music Box 30 treatment but with far less delay for the physical release.
The one thing I was hoping for that wasn't released was the duet version of "After Tonight" with Luis Miguel. I know he had allegedly sent David Foster a destroyed version of it b/c he disliked it but surely that couldn't have been the only copy, right?

Really enjoying Rainbow 25. With a few exceptions (i.e. removing the whistle note during Heartbreaker's intro), I do think the original tracks are upgraded. Yeah, to some degree it feels like a new album with how improved some of the tracks are. That would be cool, but unlikely. Even so she could easily do an updated Remixes even if just for streaming services. Yeah I'd love CD versions, too, but I guess there is no current market for CDs. Vinyl is the only real physical component happening these days. I'm pretty sure Mariah confirmed there are no vault tracks for Butterfly, which tracks. We've already gotten "Slipping Away" and "One Night" from the Daydream era, so I wonder if there is anything left in the vault for it. Supposedly the duet didn't work at all, and between that and Luis being an ex, it's probably likely Mariah will keep that from evening seeing the light of day. The duet may not have even been finished? Remember that next year also brings the 35th anniversary of the debut and the 20th anniversary of TEOM.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised is she waits for the 40th anniversary of the debut and skips the 35th, with Daydream 30 and TEOM 20 happening. TEOM may even take a back seat until its 25th, especially if there is actually a new album coming.

I really hope both she has worked with both Raphael Sadiiq & Anderson Paak on new album. Those are collaborators that make sense.

Why is she so secretive about who she's working with? Does it really matter at this point?

Why is she so secretive about who she's working with? Does it really matter at this point? LOL Yeah, that's one trait of hers I never understood. It's one thing to not post snippets of music/lyrics, etc. But to make names so "top secret" at this point is just odd. In this day & age, name dropping, especially if they're new to your music roster, can only HEIGHTEN the excitement of an upcoming album.....

It is probably one of those things that happened in response to the whole Glitter debacle and J. Lo. It takes a minute to get out of that line of thinking. I get it to an extent it can sabotage your plans or public perception if someone beats you to the punch.

Right, she's been so traumatized by that whole "Loverboy" mess, she wants to keep her shit top secret. Plus, more than a good decade after that, she said that someone stole her entire concept for another project (her "intellectual property," if I remember correctly, is what she said in the interview) that she's been swearing just about every studio collaborator of hers to secrecy since.

Since this stuff is starting now with Anderson, can we get her to spend some time with D'Mile, Lucky Daye & Maxwell? I'm probably doing too much now, huh?! LOL

đź’”Such a bop. That song always hits.
Side note: for the new album I hope there’s at least one song with Blood Orange again, please!

Has anyone tried listening to Rainbow via YouTube since the anniversary release? I am wondering if the remastered versions have replaced the old versions, or not. I guess it could be different for the album tracks versus the songs with official videos? I hadn't listened to the "There For Me" acapella until that #LisaRinna post. It's definitely stunning in parts, but it also highlights how cut-and-paste certain parts are. Still, these remasters show how great the Rainbow-era vocals were on the whole and how the poor mixing killed them.

It was hard to find the 25th edition since it wasn’t under the usual “Playlist” tab like most of her MC30 updates. I found Rainbow 25 under “Releases”.

They fixed the Heartbreaker intro on streaming! Nice. Also, I agree with J about the cut and paste vocals of There For Me. It's even more obvious in the a cappella version. Such a pretty song but the vocals are a little all over the place.

This video floating around social media has the newer generation realizing she is the queen of hip hop. Building off of that is this fun video. The only one I think is a stretch is "No Scrubs"on "A No No." It is missing "Best of My Love" though.

Listening to Rainbow reminds me of how detailed Mariah was with her art in that 1999-2002 period (and even in 1997, at least with her videos). I know the "Honey" video was speculated about heavily, and then "Clown" a bit in 2002, but it's kind of wild the details she was providing. She was Taylor Swift before Swift was even a thing. Look at how she uses code names like Dandelion and Valentine in "Petals." Lambs knew who those referred to, but I guess because social media didn't exist then, for the most part those details escaped the general media. Hell, in "Crybaby" Mariah is singing about crying over Derek Jeter while Luis Miguel is sleeping in the other room! On "Did I Do That?" she says Derek is dumb af. That's some tabloid fodder right there that would have gotten pored over in the past decade and would have fueled her sales.
(Speaking of "Petals," I'd also like to mention how stunningly written the bridge is and how if Swift wrote it she would get a comparison to Springsteen.)

Are we trying to summom Swifties into this thread or...
I listened to Rainbow again on my home speakers. Had to tweak some of the settings (Atmos has her vocals waaay too forward) but...much improved. I forgot how sharp her pen was on this album.
