I will never understand the low streaming numbers for DFAU. An absolute CLASSIC in my book.

I actually preferred DFAU to WBT back in the day when they were current. I now realize the error of my ways, but still DFAU!

DFAU was really done dirty! And can I just say this Valentine version of WBT sucks balls? It really does bring away all the essence out of the song. It's meant to be fast paced and gritty, not some nasal breathy coo mess.
The m was ridiculous nnnn

I know she's been doing it for years now but I really wish she would stop with the whole standing in one place thing. It could very well be because of the dress but if that's the case then she needs to wear something that lets her move around more.

If Mariah was really that kind of bitch she would've led the performance with DFAU and then slid into the Desert Storm banger like she did back in 2000 with TGIFY/MIL!

I really enjoyed the performance!
Regarding "DFAU," I enjoyed it more than "WBT" when it first came out, but I've almost never revisited it after 2006. I think it just suffered from sounding too much like "WBT," whereas "ILT" and "SIO" have more distinctive sounds- I still enjoy them, and "WBT," today.

Wow, this performance was perfect. I can't believe she is singing live. She looks more confident now.

Obsessed and TMB still slaps! I was not that into E=MC2 and MOAIA when they were released (was too young lol) but in retrospect both the albums are amazing (yes, even Bye Bye).

The intro clips were great and it was a great performance! I am confused about that small "DFAU" intro, though. Now her AMAs tweet shade saying it's not a medley it's a song from the album makes sense. They probably wanted her to do she being Aries said here you go I did it 😂

I think she would have killed DFAU had she actually done it. It seems like it would suit her voice today better than WBT. And I also agree I'm not a fan of the slower remix of WBT, but I'm glad she started off with the original. But I had a feeling she would sneak that remix in somehow, lol.

I think the Valentine's Mix of "WBT" actually fits the album better because of the old school feel of the production, and I actually use that version (well, a version that combines the recorded vocal with that production) on my version of the album. But yeah, in genera I prefer the main version. I'm sure Mariah likes changing it up for live performances because she's performed it so many times at this point.
In terms of "DFAU," I never fully saw the comparison there; they are similar lyrically, but they're structurally different and for me "DFAU" harkens back to warm 1990s R&B while "WBT" feels more modern (yet classic). There are other songs (like "I Stay In Love") that feel more directly like "WBT" to me.

I always viewed DFAU as the more flirty, bouncy cousin of WBT. I think there is a more positive, hopeful feeling captured by the production of DFAU where there is a more melancholy feel to WBT. I would say DFAU probably got a bad rep then because it had a lot more similarities than differences to WBT. At the time, I much preferred So Lonely, but I understood choosing DFAU heading into Grammy season.

Speaking of DFAU, the video popped up on my YouTube today.
She looks gorgeous, of course. 💗

DFAU is my thanksgiving song, such good memories. 2005 was really a magical year in Mimiland.

At the time, I much preferred So Lonely, but I understood choosing DFAU heading into Grammy season. "So Lonely" was (and is) FIRE! I never understood what happened with it. I think Twista did release it as a single, but maybe only half assed? It didn't have a video, but I remember it charting [low] at Top 40 and being on the weekly countdown shows. I'd always wanted Mariah to work with Rodney Jerkins, and "So Lonely" showed what kind of heat they could bring. Then she finally worked with him on solo stuff, and we got "The Art of Letting Go" and "You're Mine." Ugh. Those aren't bad, but they're nothing in the lane of "So Lonely" (or his work for Brandy, Destiny's Child, Toni, etc).

So Lonely definitely deserved proper single treatment. That album just had so many potential hits begging to be released. Justice for the album tracks!

Let's rank the AMAs performances!
A reminder, in chronological order:
1. Someday (1991) 2. Fantasy (1996) 3. Thank God I Found You/Make It Last (2000) 4. Through the Rain (2003) 5. Don't Forget About Us (2005) 6. I Stay in Love (2008) 7. With You (2018) 8. m (2024)

DFAU is my thanksgiving song, such good memories. 2005 was really a magical year in Mimiland. I am sorry but DFAU was such a lazy attempt to pilfer off of WBT’s good will. IMO it hasn’t stood the test of time. I recently got into the So Lonely remix after I heard it on her setlist and that would’ve been a greta follow up single as well. In fact there are a couple of songs on the album that would’ve been better singles but I guess Mariah needed that easy #1.

Come to think of she really loves performing at the Amas. That and the Billboard awards might be her most consistent performing award shows

Come to think of she really loves performing at the Amas. That and the Billboard awards might be her most consistent performing award shows I think it's because the AMAs and Billboard tend to feel more lower stakes than some of the other award shows. There's less pressure and are more fan-oriented whereas something like the Grammys are more industry based.

There's less pressure and are more fan-oriented whereas something like the Grammys are more industry based. This is likely true, but also she's performed every time she's been a big nominee at the Grammys (for her debut, Daydream, and TEOM) as well as for Emotions, so I think some of it also has to do with her lack of love from the Grammys. Performance slots are usually mostly filled with the big nominees and Mariah hasn't been nominated for a Grammy for her own work since "DFAU," so that explains her not having been a Grammys performer since TEOM era. I would assume she's at least been asked to be a tribute performer or something, but she may not have been interested because of the stakes you mention. Even though it wasn't the main show, Mariah did also have that "C(BPCH)" performance for a Grammys special, so that makes 5 total performances for Grammys-related shows.

I don’t know if this was always the case, but the AMAs weren’t live this year - they were filmed on 9/26 I believe. That’s a really important distinction in my opinion when it comes to Mariah’s televised performances now.

Sorry but I have to say it, the first pic of her in the red suit, she looks like she's forcing the smile. Like someone just told her she needed to wear sneakers.

Whoever retouched these new Xmas photos needs to be fired. The second photo looks nothing like her and she's crosseyed. I did swipe up the 30th anniversary box set for the steep price as I have all of the other 30 collection on vinyl.

Why would Mariah approve those photos. She looks crazy on the 2nd picture. The face tune is out of control when it’s not needed. Like 🤦🏻♂️
