Since we’re not to concerned about chart performance then I will say I think Kelly Clarkson would’ve been a more classic choice over Ariana. Ari sounded great but the chemistry between MC Kelly and JHud would’ve been much better I think Btw Kelly is doing extremely well with her Christmas project. I would have preferred Kelly, too, but from a commercial standpoint Ariana makes sense. Kelly isn't relevant commercially. Neither is J Hud, of course, but they needed at least one of the guests to pull in streams/sales. I like the idea someone said of Tori Kelly being the third over J Hud. |

I'd only been thinking U.S. Grande is as big or bigger in the UK than she is in the U.S. so this might do better on the UK charts than the U.S. |

The Christmas special was everything I hoped it would be - super campy and super festive! Mimi served music, visuals, and Christmas spirit, so my lamb heart is very happy today. She looks so good in this special! All of her outfits were so extravagant and flawless.
I like that she put a lot of focus on the music from MCIIY which is definitely overlooked in favor of her first (also amazing) Christmas album.
I think the "Oh Santa" remix is super cute, and I like the addition of Ari and J Hud. I think some of you had unrealistic expectations for this remix. It was pretty much exactly what anyone could expect - the same song with new vocalists. I don't think anyone, hopefully including Mariah, was thinking that this remix was going to be the smash Christmas hit that will overtake AIWFIY, but it's a fun, cute song, and I'm so thrilled to see Mariah and Ari collaborating. I'm grateful Mariah has done so much for us this year, and that she works so hard every year to bring Christmas cheer to the lambily.

The Official U.K. chart's Accelerated Chart Ratios (ACR) rule will continue keeping it from No.1. But in the spirit of Christmas, like Scott Mills said, there are 3 weeks left until Christmas. Perhaps the special will give it an even extra boost since the song is performed as the encore of the show. Who knows?!

The one thing we can all agree on is this... No. Why the constant desire of putting women against each other? Shakira and JLo did their thing. They’re as great vocalists as Mariah, Ariana and JHud are great dancers. All of them have earned their spot on the limelight and have done great contributions to popular music. Let’s just enjoy this moment with joy and positive feelings. No need for negative vibes or criticisms to other women who are not related to this event whatsoever |

I’m not a fan of her voice on these latest Christmas offerings. It sounds strained, like she is developing some strange vocal habits, and her tone isn’t so pleasant. Am I just being overly critical? Sleigh Ride is fine because the production hides a lot of it. It's been like this for a while now. You can perfectly identify it during Caution Era. I think it's the nodules... Yeah, I know. It makes me sad. But there are clearly good days. The re-recording of All I Want is fine. Joy to the World is a mess. She’s been really favoring her whisper register lately and I can sort of see why. Honestly, nodules or not, Mariah sounds better when she is singing consistently and not after breaks. |

I want to see this do well but it's not about that for me. It was a female empowerment moment puts to bed the Mariah and Ariana comparisons because what you gonna say now that they sang together and even harmonized whistles. I know in the studio and controlled environments Ariana can whistle so she can be the princess of that note. For Mariah it's a legacy move, gets her trending and keeps her name out there which she is a master of and for Jhud more caucasians will hear her now.

I'm LOVING "Oh Santa"! What a surprise to hear all new vocals!
I think MiMi sounds great. Maybe her voice is a bit thinner but she was hitting some unexpected notes and sounded very vibrant to me??
J Hud and Ari were both good too. Especially J Hud. She's great!

Are all of the songs newly recorded??
I haven't watched the special yet (tomorrow night w/friends).
I did purchase "Sleigh Ride" so far along with "Oh Santa".

Re: the vocal topic - I don't hear strain, as in her voice doesn't sound raspy or unrested to me, what I do notice (I only listened to the soundtrack, I'm watching the special itself later tonight) is there is a lot of what MCIIY has and what I remember some lambs on her fan boards complaining about back in 2010: this rapid switch from register to register. However, she does it even more... "schizophrenically" on this record. Like, flipping from head voice to chest voice, throwing her whistle register in there, jerking back to mid-range singing etc. in nano-seconds. I honestly think this is the best she could offer right about now. Unless she experiences another Beacon 2014 in the near future, I think the next album will be full of those kind of vocals too. Frankly, the OHN of this album is the best studio vocal 2020riah can pull off IMO. |
