Mariah seems to command a level attention with every new release, but then it just fizzles out if it doesnāt capture peopleās imagination. I think something really unexpected would hold the attention of the public pretty well. Also songs like GTFO can hurt her other very important brand (Christmas Queen) in the long run. I actually think she could still have at least one more big commercial era if everything lined up. She still looks great and people still love her. I think she should have another big commercial hit but not an era of that makes sense. Believe and 4 minutes are really the only precedent we have for females getting bit hits once hitting 50. And in the US Madonna and Cher didnāt have much single success the rest of those eras or even after that. And Madonna needed JT.

Wow at Nat King Cole being above it. Anyone happen to know how far ahead of Celine she is at this point. Even though she outsells Celineās album every year, Iām always surprised at just how close they are in total sales. Celine is a silent seller at Christmas, I think. Celine appeals to an older crowd who still buy CDs, so her sales have always been close. In terms of SPS Mariah is way ahead. Merry Christmas will be getting a new cert any day now, and it will be 2-3 million ahead of Celine's cert so there you go.

Lee Daniels posted on IG stories that he was watching the special.
Diane Keaton has been liking and commenting on Mariah's IG about it.

I think something really unexpected would hold the attention of the public pretty well. Also songs like GTFO can hurt her other very important brand (Christmas Queen) in the long run. I actually think she could still have at least one more big commercial era if everything lined up. She still looks great and people still love her. LOL. Every era since 2008, without fail, fans say "one more big commercial era!" "one more big commercial era!" and that era never happens. The one time I thought she was primed for a mini comeback was MIAM, with the massive Idol exposure, and the fact that album had a couple of killer tracks, besides being consistent all around, that could've worked as singles. And we all know what went down then. I think Caution-type eras will be the norm for her from here on out and bonus her yearly Christmas domination, of course. I'd love that, I'd love for her to keep serving quality on the level of Caution. That album is fantastic. MIAM was a mess. From the album title (kitchy cult classic for Mariah but not viable commercially at the time), to the delayed release. #Beautiful launched and was a great track received well but they dropped the ball by delaying the album all that time because of her arm injury. You're Mine was also an unappealing WBT-lite rehash and wrong choice as a follow up. With You was also the worst choice for the lead single for Caution which is an incredible project. GTFO was a good buzz option but The Distance should have been the full blown first single with a budget video and she should have performed that at the AMAs with Ty $, would have brought some attention to the project where as it went over the GP's head entirely. I believe Mariah does have another commercially viable era left in her, looking regal and classic and serving R&B excellence. A soulful album with full vocals (the general public are not into her whispers) and upbeat tracks could go over really well as a project. Maybe not massive hit singles but I can see a really strong album of that nature getting good buzz and sales. Really lean into that legendary R&B stature she has carried for awhile now, and especially with MC30 she has reinforced how important she is to Black culture and just like how she launched the TEOM campaign initially through the urban markets then went big I think that would bring her another acclaimed era.

The harmonies once they kick in after a few listens and ending is amazing. So much background work going on. Watching the video enhances that because you see them doing their different harmonies. Ish. There are a lot of times in the video where J Hud isn't singing at all. I don't think she knew her background parts. I never knew how much I needed Snoop in āHere Comes Santa Clausā. I think this version is an improvement on the MC2Y version. Yes. I need a full-length version.

I watched the OS! music video 100 times and I have to say itās as pretty much perfect as you can get. Compared to the Bieber or John Legend redoās. The chemistry is way better and the video has more replay value.
In the Bieber video she looks like his rich auntie taking him Christmas shopping and in the John Legend video he looks like just paid for a permit to be able to play piano in her living room.

Celineās album pulled ahead of Mariahās back in the 90s because her album was aided by the No. 1-not-a-Christmas-song āIām Your Angelā with R. Kelly. So Mariah always had that ground to make up over the last 20 years on that album. Iām Your Angel had its moment but didnāt really last through the years the way other Celine songs have and, well, that song has aged VERY poorly now for obvious reasons. It took her a while but Mariah finally passed it a while back.

She designed all those looks? Mariah coming for the title of queen of fashion. I thought her looks on the special were stunning.

Still number one on iTunes btw.
Edit: With 8 millions views on YouTube in 36 hours. Has Mariah ever had that many so quickly in the YouTube era?

Has anyone else read the rumours that the girls didnāt film oh Santa together and thatās why there are no pics of the tree of them together (like Snoop & JD) and no official single cover photo. Rumour is that Mariah only agreed to do it if it was shot separately from Ari and JHud!

IYA was removed from all Celine albums two years ago. Also, the Josh remix of TP, which is a stand-alone single, seems to be the version of choice. Like MC, it's still a solid album. I can't quite figure out how Nat King Cole's album is charting higher than MC. Where are the additional streams coming from on NKC's songs? It's not like TCS is outstreaming or outselling AIWFCIY. And it's not like that the only MC track that's popular.

He has 4 songs on the Billboard Holiday 100: The Christmas Song Deck the Halls (which isn't in the Spotify top 200) O Come All Ye Faithful (also not in the top 200 on Spotify) Joy to the World

I highly doubt it and Mariah clearly touches Jennifer twice towards the end of the video (more than likely because she knew her and Ari's harmonized would be the top story and she didn't want J.Hud to feel left out).

Exactly. Mariah touches J Hud twice and look at how both J Hud and Ariana looks at Mariah here, they are clearly next to her

It wouldāve been an unnecessary set up for that Instagram post with the three chairs. Because of covid, I could see them maybe not performing it all together two feet apart, but they did it together in some capacity I believe

I feel like people wanna make Mariah this insecure b*tch and create a narrative of tension for mess and drama's sake.
If she was that bothered by Ariana anymore she wouldn't have even called her to be a part of the song in the first place. She could have easily gotten Kelly or JoJo, especially with their recent interactions.
Even the arrangement was done well with Ari singing softer, lower, and doing a low register moment with Mariah at the end of the 2nd verse/start of the chorus that I honestly like as much as the dual whistles.
We didn't need 3 singers wailing throughout the whole song dueling for moments, it wouldn't be pleasant, even Jennifer restrained her bellowing. Ari is also singing the same way that she is singing on the 'positions' album.
Lastly, Mariah is too much of a respectful singer when it comes to singing with other women (and I don't think she would even record AT ALL with someone that she doesn't respect vocally).
All that being said, it all sounds natural and wonderful to me.

Alexa is the hidden driver behind Xmas music streams. Well, it's NKC and he was a trailblazing legend. I wonder if MCMC will end up being her lowest charting album. Does GH still hold that title?

Just typical Mariah being a diva fake rumors. Mariah doesn't work with people she doesnt want to be shot beside. Period.

My favorite part of the special was the whistle harmonizing between Ari and Mariah! They sounded great and the smiles were authentic and so radiant.
