It's interesting if true. I almost think it would be overkill to do another one so soon, but who knows? She has plenty of her own songs she didn't perform (Christmas Baby Please Come Home, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, One Child,...Miss You Most) and maybe another new one like we got with "Sleigh Ride" ("Where Are You Christmas" even). She can also perform "Oh Santa" again to try and make it happen. Still, it seems like her Apple special did really well, which is awesome.

the christmas special must have attracted quite a number of new subscribers for Apple to be willing to invest in a follow up sequel. Hope it works out!

The worldwide success of anything Mariah and Christmas related is something only she has. It's very difficult to get.

Looks highly likely "Oh Santa" will stay inside the Top 50 at Pop radio tonight for the final update, giving Mariah her first entry since 2014.

Just noticed that with Mondayβs chart AIWFCIY will pass WBT with its 44th week on the chart, marking the most weeks for any Mariah song on the Hot 100.

Mariah moves up one spot and is now the 4th most popular artist in the world on Spotify with 60,825,757 monthly listeners!
Ariana and Mariah are the only two females in the top 4.
No pre-2000 artist has ever reached 60M.
Also, AIWFCIY has crossed 900M Spotify streams with 900,801,824!!!
With that, AIWFCIY continues to lead as the most streamed song for a female 90βs artist and it passes Nirvanaβs Smell Like Team Spirit to become the 2nd most streamed 90βs song overall behind only Oasisβ Wonderwall.
AIWFCIY will easily reach 1B Spotify streams next season!
Congratulations MC!!! πππ

Mariah had #1 songs today in 1995, 2005 and last year. Supreme queen!

I would be okay with another Christmas special next year if it was for a new Christmas album. Having "Sleigh Ride" as the only Christmas song in her special that she hasn't covered before made me realize how much I yearn for new Christmas music from her. There are so many Christmas classics she has yet to cover that I would love to hear her tackle.

"Sleigh Ride" was lovely but personally the only songs I want to hear her own renditions of are "All Alone On Christmas" and "Where Are You Christmas" and that's it really. I'm not really here for full new Christmas album...
Also, yet another Christmas special next year would be too soon, a bit of an overkill. It remains to be seen how the situation with Covid-19 will go next year and if she'll be able to do a few Beacon shows, too. (I doubt it)

(I doubt it) I donβt think another Christmas special next year would be too soon. IMO, itβs actually expected and would be on-brand for her. She was already doing yearly concerts/residencies at Beacon and Caesars Palace and sheβs the ONE star that can pull it off.

I would love something like with The Muppets.

(I doubt it) "All Alone on Christmas" would be great for her, but considering she's already covered Darlene Love, I think it would be too much. In addition to "Where Are You Christmas" I'd love to hear her do: "I'll Be Home for Christmas" "Holly Jolly Christmas" "Grown Up Christmas List" "The Christmas Waltz" "Someday at Christmas" or "What Christmas Means to Me" "Breath of Heaven" and or "Mary Did You Know?" "Carol of the Bells" (acapella arrangement!) "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" But tbh, at this point I prefer one offs like "Sleigh Ride" or "Lil Snowman" where she does stuff for specials/movies. No need to compete with herself with new holiday albums.

Mariah taught these younger girls what a Christmas classic could do for longevity. The fact that sheβs #1 in 2021 is legendary.

Would love to see this hit #1 eventually... wish they would push it more. A deluxe edition was released last year, in addition to other re-releases of it (there was a double disc version with videos, etc). In addition to "AIWFCIY" she very often performs "Joy to the World," "O Holy Night," and "Silent Night" on specials and other TV appearances.

I wouldn't mind another Christmas special as long as it's different in concept with different songs (aside from AIWFCIY of course). You can pull it off successfully. Somebody mentioned the Muppets and that would be lovely. I could also see her maybe trying to do something more in depth with the Peanuts crew. She said she has a very good relationship with the Schultz estate dating back to her rendition of that song, which they apparently loved. Maybe they could work something out after she was able to get them in her special this year.

I donβt see why there would be a limit to the amount of Christmas specials or promo Mariah can do. She promotes her Christmas music pretty much every year and people arenβt tired of it yet. The seasonal nature of her Christmas domination prevents overkill, and people seem to be on board or at least not against her title as the queen of Christmas. I do agree she would need to come up with a new concept, but there are so many possibilities that that isnβt a problem.

I would probably literally cease to exist if she did a Christmas special with the Muppets or the Peanuts crew.

I do agree she would need to come up with a new concept, but there are so many possibilities that that isnβt a problem. It's not about promo, but the same kind of promo. Her promo has been consistent, but also varied. She actually only has 3 holiday specials - the 2010 ABC one, the 2015 Hallmark one, and now the 2020 Apple one. She then has a lot of one off performances, YouTube stuff like Billy Eichner and Elle, the animated film of the "AIWFCIY" book, use of songs in films/shows, and so on. I think having different uses of different songs hitting different audiences is part of the success. Hitting the same audience with the same kind of promo is what I think would be overkill.

The Apple special also looked like a rushed low budget covid restricted affair. So maybe Apple had lots of money left over and just offered her another special cause it was successful. I have to disagree here. Mariah's done some things in the past the HAVE looked janky and rushed, but this wasn't one of them. It definitely did not look low budget, and likely wasn't considering all the high profile names involved. I'm sure it would have been more expansive, set wise, without COVID restrictions, so I can give you that.

In addition to COVID restrictions, to me it was clearly modeled after old variety shows, and the sets reflected that quality. It's just about seeing it in the right light. She's also not going to get a Jurassic Park size budget anyway.

Well that's what I mean; and she even states in interviews that they weren't sure they were even going to do it. So you can just tell and see that this was impacted due to Covid. Look at everything else Apple TV offers. I'm not complaining about it - but I know that there was definitely money still in the pot at the end of production.

Actually, considering all the restrictions, I was taken back by how well it turned out.
