Here are YT stats for some of her other videos:
"We Belong Together" 2016 - 55 million 2017 - 65 million 2018 - 75 million 2019 - 57 million 2020 - 40 million (This has really fallen off in the past 2 years.)
"Always Be My Baby" 2016 - 22 million 2017 - 23 million 2018 - 33 million 2019 - 31 million 2020 - 48 million (This one was really up in 2020, aided by its use in Always Be My Maybe and Schitt's Creek.)
"Hero" 2016 - 46 million 2017 - 48 million 2018 - 38 million 2019 - 25 million 2020 - 32 million
"I Know What You Want" 2019 - 26 million 2020 - 57 million (I don't have data pre-2019, but this more than doubled its views in 2020.)
"Obsessed" 2016 - 19.5 million 2017 - 20 million 2018 - 10.1 million 2019 - 28 million 2020 - 23 million (This one had a huge increase over the past 2 years due to TikTok.)

AIWFCIY stays inside the Top 10 post Christmas and spends a 2nd week in January for the first time ever!
And it remains at #1 on the steaming chart!
This song is something else.

Next year Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are Friday and Saturday, so I think it has a really good shot at #1 in that week if streaming trends hold up and there isn't a big release around that time.

Well she might have just encouraged people to not release that week or really during that time frame. I mean Taylor barely got a number 1, and she had to pull out all of the stops just to get it by 2 points.

Combining the streams for the album version and remix, "Obsessed" has now passed 300 million total streams between YouTube and Spotify. It is Mariah's ninth song to hit that mark. Here is a ranking of all of the songs of Mariah, Whitney, Madonna, and Celine to hit that mark:
1. All I Want for Christmas Is You 2. I Will Always Love You 3. I Wanna Dance With Somebody 4. We Belong Together 5. I Have Nothing 6. Higher Love 7. La Isla Bonita 8. Without You 9. My Heart Will Go On 10. Hung Up 11. Hero 12. Always Be My Baby 13. Bitch I'm Madonna (83% of streams are for the video) 14. When You Believe 15. Like A Prayer 16. The Power of Love 17. One Sweet Day 18. Vogue 19. 4 Minutes 20. I Know What You Want 21. I'm Alive (77% of streams are for the video) 22. Obsessed
Mariah has nearly half of the list!

This podcast breaks down Mariah’s resumé for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It’s a fairly comprehensive view of Mariah’s career and it examines how she fits the criteria the Hall looks for in artists. It’s also a good examination of how critics have viewed her through her career and how that’s changing. Ultimately the three people said she should be in, and will get in soon. One note about that that I thought was interesting... Elysa Gardner formerly of USA Today is apparently on the nominating committee. She was one of the rare mainstream critics back in the 90s that loved Mariah and usually have her albums good reviews. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/who-cares-about-the-rock-hall/id1372323455?i=1000504034038

She's always been an obvious no-brainer HoF future inductee. And she should be inducted in before someone like Mary J. Blige, Beyonce or Alicia Keys.

She should have been in when she was first eligible. I haven't listened to that podcast yet but will. The way her influence is continually overlooked is ridiculuos. SPIN didn't even include her on their list of the top 35 influential artists in the past 35 years, yet Billie Eilish and No Doubt made it. WTF? Mariah has 3 clear areas of influence and has influenced multiple generations of artists: 1. As a vocalist she has been the most influential singer of the past 30 or more years 2. She has of course been a huge part of merging pop and hip-hop, which is something we still see today (unlike grunge yet Nirvana continually gets praise) 3. She is the main artist to have turned the holiday season into a lucrative venture for musicians

^ I agree, it’s very frustrating how her influence is always downplayed. Hello, Ariana is right there! Her vocal and genre styling is remarkably similar to Mariah. Other top females like Beyoncé and Rihanna are clearly influenced by her as well, and they’ve stated this.

Ariana, Beyonce, Rihanna, Kelly, Katy, Gaga, Christina, Britney, Brandy, Jessica, etc have all verbally expressed her influence, and you can hear it in one or more of their songs. And when you extend out Mariah making hip-pop music and holiday music mainstream, you bring in Maroon 5, Michael Buble, Bruno Mars, Gwen Stefani, Justin Bieber, and others. I honestly can't think of an artist who has influenced music more in the past 30 or more years.

I think for some people it is very easy to acknowledge what Mariah has done for music, and I think for others they would sooner lose an arm or something than admit what she has done for music.

Yes for some reason she’s always struggled with being seen as “cool” while all those singers we’ve mentioned who’ve been influenced by her are seen as “cool.” I’ve always chalked it up to femme-aphobia because she’s so cutesie and girly.

cking33 Thank you for posting that podcast! They hit the nail on the head about something I have mentioned in the past and it’s being discussed on this thread. I feel like the major reason people don’t see her as “cool” or whatever that means is because Mariah has always been super girly and feminine. She has albums named Rainbow, Butterfly, Daydream, Emotions, Charmbracelet etc so people have this image of her that’s the opposite of badass and cool. And it’s because of that she’s easily dismissed. There is no doubt in mind Mariah will get inducted in the RnR HOF. Her talent, legacy and her accomplishments are too big to be ignored.

I agree. I think the unabashed femininity and her playing up the diva image has worked against her in this regard (thus far), and I think it's part of why she's had a hard time being recognized for her songwriting and producing (people just can't reconcile someone with that image with the idea of a serious songwriter and producer)... but hindsight is 20/20 and this could be reevaluated as time passes as with many things in Mariah's career.

There’s a strong parallel to Dolly Parton who also had a hard time being taken seriously for a long time due to looking like a drag queen, but today Dolly is highly respected for her songwriting and artistry. To be fair, Mariah absolutely is highly respected fir those things as well and she has done a lot for her legacy in the past year, but many people still have a hard time considering her a true artist which I don’t think is the case with Dolly anymore.

^ I think Mariah will ultimately get to that point. I remember that around TEOM-E=MC2, which was her second career peak, that many were not sure how Mariah's songs would hold up and what her legacy would look like. I don't think many even thought she had a shot at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at that time. Contrast that to these past few years, and I think Mariah is finally getting more credit in terms of her songwriting and artistry, certainly far more than she had in the past. I also think that Mariah is coming across much better in interviews lately where she is showing how intelligent she really is and is talking about the songwriting process a lot more. This is definitely a change in contrast with 2008-2009 where she played up a role as a ditzy diva (she's a diva but is definitely not ditzy) and the Stella era which, well, no need to even go there.

Mariah was just never truly interesting to most people despite being a popstar which comes down to her being disregarded throughout her career, it is what it is.
An amazing voice, but nothing exciting ala Celine was how it was during her 90s peak. Just radio fluff and a woman who rarely ever spoke out or was candid about absolutely anything.
During a time when MJ/Janet/Madonna/etc were popstars that were seen as unique and pushed boundaries, she was seated comfortably with her ballads lol. The anti to them were the Alanis/Lauryn/Nirvana/etc's who were incredibly proficient and deep songwriters, but Mariah never truly was controversial, told a deep story/pushed a narrative, or went out of the norm with her writing during the 90s.
Then ofcourse the late 90s to early 00s was just people thinking she was trying to desperately be relevant and was a mess.
I think after (TEOM forward) people started to mainly give her credit for her lasting power and the fact she was going down as one of the best technical vocalists ever no matter what.
The diva behavior probably did cause lots of dislike and reputation damage with adults, but the funny thing is, that in 2021 the whole over-the-top persona and memes/shady moments is what a big part of what has kept her so well known and acknowledged with the youth and that stan community compared to other 20th century artists. I think ever since Stella-gate/2018 she has also dialed back on the unlikable aspects of her diva personality (feuding/being rude to newcomers/etc) and put more emphasis on the likable aspects.

This is accurate, but also a huge reason I admire Mariah. She has stuck to her persona regardless of its negative impact on her image, which is a testament to her strength. More so, while other divas cater to a more 'masculine' approach to get respect, Mariah has basically said "I'm going to be feminine and show you being feminine doesn't mean someone can't be smart, talented, in control, etc." To me in that regard Mariah is actually more feminist than nearly any other artist, and it's yet another thing that is overlooked.

Mariah was one of the first singers I ever loved, from the moment little me first heard "Always Be My Baby" on the radio. Her 90's stuff is iconic and The Emancipation Of Mimi was so exciting to witness. I honestly thought she was done after the Glitter backlash and I was so excited when "We Belong Together" went to #1! Out of her more recent songs my favorite is probably "You Don't Know What To Do", because I'm a sucker for anything that has a disco/funk influence.
