It's at 33min~ though you might want to go a minute backward to get the context... that was also a brief moment too

^ She has such a great voice! I went and checked her version of OHN after all this praise she had for Mariah, and wow. 🙇♂️ I'd be interested to hear more from her but I don't f**k with too much country. You (and everyone else) need to hear this one: Welp, I’m definitely going to add her music to my library. I hope she wins that Grammy.

He didn't produce those whole albums either. First of all, Walter has never been the sole producer on any Mariah song anyway. "They" produce. Secondly, how dare you whitewash those albums and leave out Clivilles and Cole (and Dave Hall and Babyface as part of Music Box) as well?! I didn’t “white wash” anything! It may not have been your intention, but you literally did. You essentially stated Walter produced the whole album of Music Box. Mariah, Clivilles, Cole, Dave Hall, and Babyface are all producers on the album and non-white. So, you credited the one white producer and left out every non-white producer. So, you did literally white wash it. Relaxing Cup“White wash”? Really? Why does every thing come back to race for some of you? Mariah saying she wrote it at 22 needs more explanation from her, I don’t get that at all. I think it's just a typo. Doesn't the book also mislabel "IBT" has her fourth or sixth #1 or something?

From memory, Mariah has fumbled the timelines at least twice. She has straight up stated she wrote it as a little girl, which is what I presume hit a nerve with Walter; when one reads "little girl" they automatically think Mariah came up with the song when she was an actual little girl, which by necessity obliterates his contribution. Please show us where she "straight up" said she wrote it as a little girl. There was one interview I can remember (Billboard, I think) where she says she's essentially been writing the song since she was 12, but she also clearly meant that in context of her loving Christmas. She by no means "straight up" said she wrote it at 12. Lol, nowhere in my post, that you quoted, do I say she said she wrote it at 12. YOU just said she did. I posted she straight up said she wrote it "as a little girl". Which she DID. Almost. She said "kid," not "little girl" in actuality. I found the exact quote. Mariah's very own words, Billboard 2017: "It truly warms my heart, and I am proud of this song that I wrote basically as a kid on my little Casio keyboard."www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8070952/mariah-carey-christmas-hot-100-top-10-reaction

In the interview with Questlove she talks about herself as a kid when she's talking about her early career. She means a kid in the industry. Additionally, Walter is the one who said she said she wrote it at 12.

I would give Mariah the benefit of the doubt if she said she wrote the song at 22. Even though she really wrote it at 24, it's only a two-year difference, and it was such a long time ago that I could see her or someone she told it to not getting the age exactly right.

I didn’t white wash anything. This has nothing to do with a persons race. It is solely about the music. Period. You’re what’s wrong with the state of the world. Everything is a fight. As for whether or not she wrote it at 22 or 24 who cares! She didn’t even want to think about Christmas music until she was 24 or 25 depending on which year she was born! The point is She and Walter have created the most beloved hit of her career. If that’s too white for some of you than that’s your problem. Mariah’s timeline has always wavered a little but she self acknowledges that time has no meaning to her so it doesn’t matter a few years here or there. I will say that she does do a pretty good job at recounting facts and keeping the story straight which tells me that she has a pretty good memory.

Now y’all know that Mariah has never been able to nail down her age. Between her regularly making jokes about when she did things in her career to downplay her age or the length of time she's been in the industry and her struggling to remember what years in her career certain songs/albums came out (she had to think about when Daydream came out in the Questlove interview for example), I don't even understand why this is an argument. I doubt she meant any of what she said literally.

On the other hand, Mariah has pulled off an amazing PR turnaround in 2 years. 2020 will arguably be her best year from an image and publicity standpoint. Not one single misstep - the rollout of the book, MC30, Xmas special, interviews, etc. Everything was on-point and strategic. However, it never came off as manufactured - MC does not do 'fake' well - it so obvious and bad. She also came off as accessible and vulnerable, but never weak.
I hope she can parlay all this to a great new music era. 'Caution' is boring to me. I'd prefer more 'Meteorite,' 'YDKWTD (minus Wale)' - but as long as she's making music she's feeling, I'll give it a spin.

We know with Mariah's serious issues with time and what not/eternally 12 she considers when she was 22/23 a little kid in comparison to where she's at now. But at the same time I can admit Mariah's narrative can be confusing to the regular Joe if they cared to look into it (which they don't)

"I'll Be There" sits so well in her voice, and in particular that last 1/3 of the song is terrific.

"Always Be My Baby" will pass 200 million streams on Spotify any day now. It will be Mariah's third song to hit that mark, following "AIWFCIY" and "We Belong Together." It also has 200 million views on YouTube, so she now has 3 songs with both 200 million Spotify streams and 200 million YT views.
FYI Whitney Houston also has 3 songs in the 200/200 club: "I Will Always Love You," "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," and "I Have Nothing." (Neither Madonna or Celine have any songs in the 200/200 club.)
Mariah's next song to get there is likely "Hero." It already has well over 200 million YT views, but it's at 142 million Spotify streams.

I just got to post this in a comment thread about the Glitter controversy.
"A small piece of this that is missing is that the song which blocked "Loverboy" from #1 was "Bootylicious" by Destiny's Child whose CD single came out the same week. It sold less but the song had more radio play. Note that Destiny's Child was on Columbia Records which, again, was headed up by Tommy Mottolla."

None of that is new information to the lambs. It was a total MELTDOWN that week back in the R&R days. It was iconic.

I wish she was asked on the podcast about A No No remix and all those JD tweets. Was it Sony Epic that didn't support a big remix like Jermaine implied? He made it seem like it was an already done deal.

I think it's time we stop giving this song a hard time. LISTEN!
These lyrics going back to the Daydream concept and snapping back to reality:
Only once in a lifetime love rushes in Changing you with a tide And dawn's ribbon of light Bursts through the dark Wakening you inside
Mariah singing about I could not breathe while literally not taking a breath inbetween phrases with her iron lung >>
We need to respect WISY some more.

I was surprised at how much fans at least online that hate this song. Actually in my real life, I know much more non hardcore fans who love the song. Interesting.
