All in all, I hope her next album (which I want this year hopefully) is longer than 10 songs. She doesn't have to go overboard like she has in the past but 10 songs is not enough. Even if she only releases one song before the album, it is the selfishness in me that needs more lol.

I think She and Walter could do something in the vein of Portrait (but better). His arrangements were the bomb. I don’t think he is first single material or anything, although, I wonder what ‘With You’ would’ve sounded like with a little of that Waldo magic?! So right there he could’ve been involved with two songs on Caution and it wouldn’t seem out of place. Nobody is saying he should produce the whole album like Emotions or Musicbox, but if he can contribute to the albums quality in anyway then why not take the chance? Lead The Way is her best post 90’s ballad. PS: it is the year 2021!! But also a song she did with him is the only thing going to #1 in 2019,2020,2021 so THATS why he keeps coming up. Nobody talks in length about her reuniting with Babyface or Jimmy Jam because although they made good music together they were nowhere on the same level. JD is the closest chemistry she has since Walter but even then doing Save The Day didn’t really save the day. You know what, I love, LOVE Walter interviews because he discusses the music itself, the interview is focused on that, which is the very thing -the music- that I most love about Mariah, why I'm a lamb and she's the #1 artist I stan for. But every time the same crap comes up afterwards "they should work together again cuz their past songs are classics..." "his music is irrelevant, they won't write a #1..." etc. -- same tedious arguments/counter-arguments. I used to not care either way, as to whether a reunion would happen, but after hearing Mariah on the Questlove Supreme podcast and Walter's interview on Spotify, I unabashedly hope it really happens now. And sooner rather than later (he's not getting any younger, excuse my morbidness, and who knows how longer he'll be working?). I mean, all this time I figured Mariah *loathed* him, I'm talking JLo level loathing, hence why I had figured a reconciliation was impossible – but I didn't get that vibe from her words at all, and that was eye-opening to me. Plus, when Walter uttered the phrase "there's no reason whatsoever why we're not working together" it hit me right there and then: wtf aren't MARIAH CAREY and WALTER AFANASIEFF writing together already?? Like, the world is being deprived of some potential stellar music. It should happen yesterday! Also, when Questlove said he heard Bruno's "Versace On The Floor" he thought that's some "Mariah and Walter level shit" and Mariah started to dwel on their songwriting process. She admitted herself that she comes up with a melody but needs an expertised piano player to flesh it out, she specifically said that she's not good at playing keyboards and whatnot hence why she needs someone for the bridge of the song, for the change in chords. If I'm not mistaken she mentioned that with regard to AIWFCIY particularly. Which is another reason I'm all for her writing with Walter again; her best bridges are with him. I'm only speaking for myself, but I as a music junkie am a sucker for a bridge. Personally, I only love four (of the admittedly few) bridges she's written in the last 15 years or so: "Mine Again," "H.A.T.E.U.," "Triumphant" and "Caution". Whereas I literally love every.single.bridge she's written with him. For me, they just make a golden musical couple, at the end of the day, on a Quiny Jones-Michael Jackson level. I read Madge is getting back together with Patrick Leonard, which is awesome. It'd be just as awesome for music if Mariah did 2-3 songs with Walter on her next record, alongside the songs with Jermash, Dev, Q-Tip, Timbaland, Skrillex...

Mariah and Walter did great f**king work together, it really was brilliant, they were perfect partners. That said, some of my personal favorites don’t have Walter on them, The Roof 😍 , Babydoll, etc. But “Outside” does so whoops 😅 Ps Touch my Body while fun doesn’t measure up to any of Mariah & walter number ones in an sense whatsoever. Tbh, for me "Touch My Body" is one of her best songs, no joke. I just heart that song. It's so fun and as perfect as pop&B-riah gets. I like it better than OSD or "Hero" as far as Mimi/Waldo #1's go. 😝

We never talk about the concerned letter Tommy Mottola wrote for Mariah urging her to get new, reputable management. She fired Stella 8 months later LMAO after I brought up Stella yesterday and how she shaded Tommy for being a fossil I went and read again what Tommy said. Truthfully he was just looking for a way to be in the news again after Mariah's NYE snafu at the time, but he didn't utter a single lie. She did need to do a clean-up and thank God she did. On that note, I'm curious if Melissa is still working for her. Something tells me she got the boot.

I don’t know, Tommy isn’t really out there commenting and Mariah’s life or trying to be in the press—I think he was truly concerned about where Mariah was heading at the time

I thoroughly enjoyed the Questlove interview. It might be my favorite interview of hers I've heard.

When I brought the song up in that post though, and how it was mentioned that many of Mariah and Walter's songs are still fresh today, that it was only as an example of one of many non-Walter hits she did that wouldn't be out of place on radio today. Regarding the instant grats from Caution, I agree that hearing nearly half the album before it came out was a bit much. However, does that mean Mariah thought the album would've done better had she only released "With You?" That song was the least-liked of the four, and I hope she realizes that...

Yeah, he really felt the need to highlight his extensive musical experience and education, and the none that she had. He was clearly pressed. The fact that you never created the same magic with many of the other artists you worked with only goes to show how much of a natural talent she really was. I also didn't like the fact that he says she was bitter because he couldn't go and run away with her because he was tied to Tommy. The way he just rides off her trauma like that and excuses Tommy - f**k off.

Well he’s still friends with Tommy and Mariah dumped him years ago. He’s not going to take her side now but he’s still very complimentary of her in every interview. I mean, he is probably hurt that she’s kinda changing the history of events regarding AIWFCIY in his eyes.
Tommy was right with calling Stella out for not being good enough for Mariah. I shutter to think where Mariah would be right now if she was too stubborn to listen. Thank Goodness Mariah has a manager complex and none last more than three years lol

From memory, Mariah has fumbled the timelines at least twice. She has straight up stated she wrote it as a little girl, which is what I presume hit a nerve with Walter; when one reads "little girl" they automatically think Mariah came up with the song when she was an actual little girl, which by necessity obliterates his contribution. Then Mariah says in her own book she wrote it when she was 22 years old, which places her in the Emotions / MTV Unplugged era (1991 / 1992 assuming you go with the 1969 / 1970 birth years respectively). Doubtful. How on earth did she write it then when the idea for a Christmas project was suggested by the label in 1993/Music Box era? It doesn't make sense.
Look, I understand him feeling slighted. He contributed to the production and writing the bridge with her, but Mariah has every right to claim she wrote it too; if you take out the bridge that he helped write, ALL THE REST is her. As I understand by both of their descriptions, AIWFCIY is 95% Mariah, 5% Walter.

^ She has such a great voice! I went and checked her version of OHN after all this praise she had for Mariah, and wow. 🙇♂️ I'd be interested to hear more from her but I don't fuck with too much country.

I’m pretty sure when Mariah once said she wrote AIWFCIY as a little girl (I believe it was in 2006?) she said it as a way to not age herself. Like how she says playing around “I’m eternally 12” or “I wasn’t born yet” when talking about a song/album that came out way back when, etc etc.
At the end the day, Mariah comes up with the melody in her head, she goes to Walter to bring out the melody to live in the computer or actual piano as she can’t really play it herself. But it is she who is feeding him what she’s hearing. She brings it into existence.
And on top of that she writes lyrics.
Walter has said this over and over. He’s just hung up on the little girl part cause he really doesn’t know or gets Mariah at this point at all. It’s been years dahhling.

Please show us where she "straight up" said she wrote it as a little girl. There was one interview I can remember (Billboard, I think) where she says she's essentially been writing the song since she was 12, but she also clearly meant that in context of her loving Christmas. She by no means "straight up" said she wrote it at 12.

Nobody is saying he should produce the whole album like Emotions or Musicbox He didn't produce those whole albums either. First of all, Walter has never been the sole producer on any Mariah song anyway. "They" produce. Secondly, how dare you whitewash those albums and leave out Clivilles and Cole (and Dave Hall and Babyface as part of Music Box) as well?! No. I didn’t “white wash” anything! I have no idea what race Clivilles and Cole are and nor do I care. Why does everything always have to be about race?! I think Walter and Mariah did great songs/albums together period. Regardless of race, religion or anything else you try to use to argue your stance. This is a Mariah Carey thread and last time I looked it was a place to freely discuss Mariah related topics. She JUST had an interview and so did Walter where they talk about each other. It’s funny how when the Roots talk about his love for her and Walters work a lot of people soften to the idea of a reunion instead of using your own ideas and thoughts to realize it’s the one last missing piece in the Mariah puzzle. She could have everything she’s doing now and more if they would just make up.

“White wash”? Really? Why does every thing come back to race for some of you?
Mariah saying she wrote it at 22 needs more explanation from her, I don’t get that at all.
