I saw this. Her voice sounds fantastic, she's belting like nothing. Yes, it does! Best it has sounded on the Elusive Chanteuse Show thus far. More videos: Lullaby of BirdlandI love this! I do find it odd she's doing old jazz songs on this tour in that I assume audiences in Asia don't really know these songs. I am glad to have this performance, though!

I'm dead on the ground at how good her voice is sounding right now. I haven't been able to listen to and watch all the videos yet, but that "thirsty" intro and "My All" climax is the reason everyone else in the game is a lessor. <3

Somebody in the front row needs to make a big ass banner that says "MARIAH PLEASE SING PRISONER!" If only to see what her reaction would be. Someone did that during the Charmbracelet or Mimi tour, and she was not amused. She's in on the joke. I seriously would not be joking. lol. If she EVER broke into that one at one of her tours, half of the lambs (including me) would die from shock!

Ain't mad, but it's pretty unexpected...

I SWEAR IF SHE DON'T PERFORM "MY ALL" ON TV AGAIN!!! That was beautiful :'( Am I misremembering or was Charmbracelet a somewhat cult favorite in Asia? "Through The Rain" was a hit in some Asian countries. I think Malaysia and The Philippines in particular.

Btw 22 years of "I'll Be There" have taken their toll on Trey Lorenz's voice too. LOL

Her voice is sounding better, seems like she may have just needed to warm it up and get it going after each show. However, it's clear that the belting in her chest voice and upper register with vibrato is more difficult for her now, and it's probably a permanent issue, which is not uncommon as singers age and use their voice for 20/30+ years. She just needs to find other ways to sing her older songs and work around those strong, belting notes and still make it sound good.
Is there a full version of "Cry" live?

I think the first negative comment I remember her making about "Prisoner" was when there was a fan campaign for her to sing it during the Charmbracelet tour and a fan brought it up at one of her backstage pass event things. She said she's never performing it.

Apparently she said once: "It was crap on the demo, it was crap on the album and it's still crap."

If you don't like "Prisoner," Mimi, then what were ya thinkin' when you wrote it? :) I happen to quite enjoy it, even the campy "rap." She can dislike that one, whatever, but I cannot comprehend for the life of me her disdain for "Someday." And it's probably worse now, given what's going on (Nick had stated his love for it). However, she could adapt it as a new anthem and dedicate it to him.

I think most of her dislike for those songs and others from early in her career have to do with her co-producers as well as being forced to record songs in a certain style. She can't get past the personal aspects related to the songs. I think most artists go through something similar; didn't Madonna shade some of her songs and not perform certain songs for awhile? Hopefully Mariah will get over it one day as Madonna did and re-arrange the songs in a manner she likes. "Someday" has a really strong melody and could easily be re-worked into something more hip-hop or even more rock.

I adore SOMEDAY! She slays it on Unplugged and although she doesn't perform it anymore I could definitely see it being transformed into a ROCK song.

Not to mention (and this has been mentioned 300x to this particular poster), she wrote that song when she was a teenager. A lot of grown singers don't care for some of the songs they wrote when they were teenagers.

I love Prisoner but yeah, I'm never surprised when artists aren't keen on some of their earlier material. Especially when their commercial/artistic peaks came later on.

Mariah performs the big hits, so the exclusion of "Someday" and "Prisoner" isn't a huge loss, imo. I'd rather she brings out tracks like "Anytime You Need A Friend," "Melt Away," Vanishing," and "Side Effects."
She is getting better about performing more obscure songs (by her standards), e.g. the "Looking In" performance last year and the inclusion of "I'm That Chick" in this tour. Mariah did mention "Side Effects" and "Anytime You Need A Friend" for this tour, so hopefully one of them will be performed down the line.

One of the fans in the audience last night screamed and asked her to perform Bliss. Mariah was like "that's interesting, maybe we'll add that into the setlist for this tour". I would die if she performs Bliss.

I don't read every reply/post, but I do know that she wrote a number of the songs on the debut when she was a teen. :)
jeng- Madge had said at one time she didn't wan to perform tracks like "Like a Virgin" and "Material Girl"- she eventually did.
I too wish Mariah could find some way to embrace more of the older material. Performing that bit of "Love Takes Time" was a step in the right direction. She seems to appreciate "Vanishing," but that has remained elusive in live performances since the early days. Not sure she'd be able to pull it off in the same vocal manner as she did in the early 90s, but I'd like to see it performed.

I think you will find she will revisit her older work eventually. I mean as her newer material finds less and less appeal with mainstream audiences she will need to find new ways to fill tour spots if she wants to tour, so that will probably mean bringing out songs she hasn't done in a while that people would want to hear versus Shake It Off and Touch My Body.

I'm trying to form a true Glitter inspired uptempo playlist by dropping the ballads and adding some of her '80s dance covers to make a true club record. What else can I add?
1. "Loverboy" 2. "Just Be Good To Me" (Live) 3. "Didn't Mean To Turn You On" 4. "Sweetheart" 5. "If You Should Ever Be Lonely" 6. "All My Life" 7. "Want You" 8. "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life"

Mariah did mention "Side Effects" and "Anytime You Need A Friend" for this tour, so hopefully one of them will be performed down the line. She also brought out "Petals" this tour and then bits of "Love Takes Time" and "Can't Let Go" not too long ago in Australia (those are hits she has ignored for awhile). If nothing else, she could add a little medley of some past hits or even personal songs. A medley where she did some of "Petals" and then went into the "Rainbow Interlude" and then finished with the end of "Close My Eyes" could work, for instance. I do like how she's rotating songs a bit during this tour, and she could easily do that and work in songs like "AYNAF" but also "Someday." She wouldn't have to do them every show. Part of the reason some of her hits are 'forgotten' is that Mariah has forgotten them. If she had been performing "Someday" on tour and/or the occasional Today or GMA concert, it would be more known. Unfortunately Mariah undermines her own standing and catalog. Honestly, considering how she clearly didn't get into vocal shape in preparation for the tour, I don't think she puts a lot of work/thought into tours in general. That's why we don't get a lot of re-arrangement, though I have been pleasantly surprised with things this tour like the "Shake It Off" intro, the use of "Off the Wall" on "I'm That Chick," etc. The band director (Big Jim Wright?) has been her best yet.

If we're speaking obscure tracks, what about her Australia shows when she opened up with the flawless David Morales resung remix of "Can' take that Away"? I wish she was opening up this tour with one of her dance remixes instead of the "Fantasy" remix because the energy with Ctta was amazing. I also hate she excluded the Morales "My All" outro this time around.
I would die for a performance or medley including the "Say Somethin'" dance remix.

I still HAVE NO IDEA for the life of me how with songs like Thirsty and YDKWTD on the album we got singles like Triumphant and YME??? You're Mine isn't bad but it could've been the fourth single for sure.
1st: #Beautiful 2nd: YDKWTD 3rd: Thirsty 4th: You're Mine (eternal)
