Just curios; why would you want a duet we've already had in a special (i.e. her mom) and not new ones with the likes of Clarkson or Bennett? To be perfectly honest with you I'm not a fan of any of those lol, and I can't imagine OCOYF being sung live without Pat's "Hallelujah" cameo (I know MC did solo in Washington, but still), and what Mario said makes the most sense: these are Mariah's concerts. It's your dream setlist, though, so... In other news, Mariah's latest show in Perth had to be cut short due to technical issues and the heavy rain. Apparently she cursed those lighting people out. Lol. I read she was in good voice for the concert though.

I'm interested in seeing some reviews of this Perth show. It seems it was only 12-13 songs long. Not even an encore. Weird.

I'm interested in seeing some reviews of this Perth show. It seems it was only 12-13 songs long. Not even an encore. Weird. This is because of the weather. It was pouring pretty badly so Mariah asked the audience to either pick Honey/Thirsty/Meteorite or the Car Ride Medley due to the regulations at the stadium not permitting Mariah to perform the whole set list like originally planned. The fans picked the first option, if you all'd like to know.

The last good thing a Mariah/Walter colaboration gave us was the beautiful, defining song of my teens, OUTSIDE.

The last good thing a Mariah/Walter colaboration gave us was the beautiful, defining song of my teens, OUTSIDE.An inadvertent LGBTQ anthem! You know, the person who introduced this song to me (and who essentialy made me the big MC fan I am today), said the same thing. When I first heard it, being multi racial, I definately identified with it from that point of view (which was probably Mariah's POV when she wrote it). Now, as an adult, I can definately relate to it from the mutli racial POV as well as what you've mentioned. For me, this is Mariah's most inspirational song, albeit quite sad. I never fail to get atleast a little bit emotional (if not completely teary eyed) once she hits the finale and goes, "and OOOOOOH and God knooooows that you're standing on your own!! Blind un-guided, into a world divided you're thrown!!Some of Mariah's best song writing hands down.

Currently attempting to get tkts for Sat Dec 20. First search was fruitless. I'm gonna need the lambs here to rally for me!!
EDIT: He's in! Not the best seats (Upper Balcony) but I wasn't trying to spend all my coinz on this, so I'm actually pleased. Plus I am SURE the festivity exploding from the #QueenOfChristmas and her followers will reach FAR BEYOND the reaches of the upper balcony, so my proximity to greatness is actually quite close. I also might try again for some better yet-still-economical seats with the general sale next week, as I feel that seats for this event will have a high resale value even when the seats aren't all that good :)

What does "Car Ride Medley" mean? Sorry, I meant more so why is it called that? The Guardian has "ABMB" on its mix tape for the week or whatever:

It's a shame the press never picks up on stuff like this: I think the problem for Mariah is she has always been someone who the press never really understood or even wanted to try and understand. I really hate that the press only is kind to her when the general public is feeling her, but the minute the general public turns on her the press lashes out. I think Mariah's perception by the general public is ridiculously blown out of proportion. With Mariah, I feel like there are extremes there that aren't really warranted.

I've thought about writing an article on it. I think a lot of it has to do with sexism, but more so sexism in terms of femininity. The press loves females who present a "strong" image like Madonna, Beyonce, and even Taylor Swift. They don't, however, respond well to "girly." Mariah is as much or more a creator of her own professional destiny as any woman in the business, yet she rarely gets credit from press as a writer and producer. Notice the press write things like "JD produced "We Belong Together" for Mariah" or "Hit-Boy" wrote" Thirsty"" or whatever. Mariah's co-writers and co-producers always talk about how they are surprised how involved she is with her music. For one, that's evidence she is very involved. I always ask myself, "Why are they surprised?" It's because the press makes it seem like others are responsible for her success. Mariah is also clearly very strong considering all she has been through in her life, but because she isn't singing "Single Ladies" or "You Oughta Know" her strength gets looked over.

Those songs are weak compared to most of Mariah's strongest material anyway so idc about the press's stupid sexist notions. Mariah doesn't either.

Yeah, the press akways makes it seem like everyone and their mother absolutely loathes Mariah, which is so outlandish. I don't think she's done herself many favors with the outrageous diva antics, but hey, it's her life. The media is ready to pounce on anything they can get; I think Mariah's image/antics really only feeds into that a lot of the time.

I'm going to be a little bit of devils advocate here but i don't blame anyone who isn't a fan and knows her fully blowing her outlandish behavior out of proportions.
Mariah Carey the world sees has painted herself, not other people but HERSELF as this out of touch, out of this world DIVA. That comes with outlandish talk, dress and antics when the world sees her.
Before is was diva sexy but really since her comeback she hasn't shown any other side. Back in the days she had those interviews with Oprah and others where she came off as the real mariah. Real, vulnerable and really underneath it all a Long Island Chick.
Let's be real since her marriage and kids, she has come across in every interview as a caricature. Very Drag Queen. Many moments are funny an cute but can you blame the general public for calling it like they see it? daaahling

Yeah, I would definitely agree that most of her image is her own doing. It's only when people sit to really watch her and listen to her and study her that they know she is being a character. She's such a ham. That's why I thought she and Nick would be a good match but alas, a sense of humor is not enough when half of the relationship is bummy.

Well they are writers technically - writing the chords and music to the song gets them that credit. So even if Mariah wrote all the lyrics and melody top to bottom (which she did a lot of times), she doesn't write the chord progressions and musical instrumentation herself. So she shares writing credit with her producers. I have never gotten this, so maybe you can help me. As far as I know, chords aren't subject to copyright. As in, there are a lot of chords typically associated with certain genres of music, and people don't typically sue because chords are the same (they sue over melody and lyric). More than that, DJs often change the chords of songs when they remix them, but then use the original vocal. If you read the credits for remixes, though, the DJ who remixed the song isn't given a writing credit despite adding new chords. It all seems so inconsistent to me. Yeah you're totally right, it is confusing! My understanding is that the non-vocal melodic elements and hooks within songs are subject to copyright (i.e. "Ice Ice Baby" vs. "Under Pressure"), so how these melodies and chord progressions are played, if unique enough, is subject to copyright. The thought is also "oh I worked on this track and it inspired Mariah's lyric and melody", so it's seen as fair for Mariah to share the writing credit. The line between producer and co-writer is really blurry if you look at it closely but it's standard business practice that the track-maker/producer gets 50% while the topliner gets the other 50% in most Pop/R&B productions. I'm not as clear on the remixing side of things, but I think remixers are more hired hands that are paid an upfront fee for their work if it's a "here's an a cappella: do what you will" situation.

I love all her sides but i seen them all. I just think the public and press see one side so they go off that. Image is all in the hands of the person, look how her image problems went away in 2005. People will always go off what they see.
The only unfair thing to me regarding Mimi, is actually her music. I don't think because she is a woman she gets the respect for being the musical genius who writes and makes hits and maintained a 25 year career. If Kanye West can come in and get credit for being a genious with less and far less just for having a fucking penis then my eyes will stay rolled to the heavens.

I get that her image is a result of her behavior. My point is that her specific type of image being seen as "negative" is sexist. Why is the way she portrays herself negative?

I can agree with apportioning some of the blame Mariah's way. I was just saying that most of the media tries to throw shade at her to an extreme where they really come at her hard when really all she is doing is being ridiculous or not even taking herself seriously. I mean does being an annoying goofball at times really warrant throwing her under the bus at times?
If there is one thing I can't stand, is when people flip flop concerning her. You are fine with her music until it is deemed a flop and then it gets labeled a sh!t album. I really dislike when people talk about her personality or past work in reviews of her newer stuff. I am like can you actually do what you were paid to do and review her album rather than gossip about her.

I mean does being an annoying goofball at times really warrant throwing her under the bus at times? Understandable. That diva, self-depricating humor often gets twisted into something completely ridiculous. Mariah has taken it upon herself to (sort of) parody AND live up to that diva image, which probably does leave a lot of people scratching their heads. I've mentioned this before, but I didn't really "get" Mariah's humor until I understood how she operated after becoming a fan.
