Yes, Mariah dahhhhling, because "Someday" was a ballad just like the other three singles on the debut. This "Someday" disdain on her part, I'm tellin' ya... I'll have to listen to the interview again, but I didn't see it as "Someday" shade at the time. 3 of the 4 singles from the debut were ballads, and I can see where leading off the Emotions era with a ballad would have definitely pigeon-holed her whereas releasing "Emotions" ended up showing she can release classic uptempos, often as lead singles.

UTS sucked I never understood her obsession with it. I love you, but you're trying to make me disown you with this statement. I gasped so hard reading this.

I'm on vacation at Vegas now. It was cool to leave Caesars Palace one night and listen to Emotions while waiting for a cab. Inside Always be my baby played once too. She's all over!!

She looks great on the single cover indeed! As I'm currently on sick leave, I'm taking the time to re-discover her discography. I have to say I overlooked MOAIA. ))) Betcha Gon Know/Obsessed/H.A.T.E.U./Ribbon/Inseparable/It's A Wrap/Up Out Of My Face + the reprise/The Impossible + the prelude ----> what a bunch of killer songs!!! I have always liked "H.A.T.E.U." but it's actually a superb R&B jam, I love it now, it should have done much better. Obviously, "You're Mine" was destined to flop, "H.A.T.E.U." is way stronger but still failed to do well. I'm in love with "The Impossible"!!! I can't believe I overlooked this jam!!! My top 3 album (in order) : 1. Emotions (least favorite track : "So Blessed") 2. Butterfly (least favorite track : "4th of July") 3. The Emancipation Of Mimi (my least favorite : "Mine Again") My 4th favorite album would probably be "Me. I Am Mariah....The Elusive Chanteuse", my least favorite track being "Camouflage" followed by "You're Mine". Most of her other albums have at least 6 tracks I love, which is quite impressive. My least favorite album still is Charmbracelet, even though it contains a few jams ("You Got Me", "Clown", "Lullaby"). Cute album, but not really memorable. This is quite impressive, considering the amount of albums in her catalogue. )))

I love most of those you mentioned, too, though I'd put "Candy Bling" in there over "Obsessed" which is fine but I don't love. But, yeah, it's a solid album. It wasn't really 'current,' but it was a cohesive R&B album with a lot of different tones from Mariah.

So they played "One Sweet Day" on the radio today (a throwback station) and I realized why that song never gets recurrent play. It's SO DAMN DEPRESSING! I was an emotional wreck after it was done. Like why would you end the song with Sorry I never told you/ all I wanted to say... It's so somber and has me thinking of last conversations or lack thereof with people no longer with me.

Here is my top 3 tracks for each albums :
Mariah Carey Vision Of Love Vanishing Someday
Emotions Emotions Can't Let Go The Wind This one was pretty hard. "And You Don't Remember" and especially "If It's Over" were huge contenders!
Music Box Dreamlover Anytime You Need A Friend Without You
Daydream Fantasy Always Be My Baby Underneath The Stars "One Sweet Day" was a serious contender, but "Underneath The Stars" is just flawless!
Butterfly Honey Outside Babydoll "The Roof" and "Breakdown" are other favorites of mine.
Rainbow Heartbreaker + its remix Can't Take That Away (it wasn't a favorite of mine, but after re-listening to the entire album, it definitely sticks out) Crybaby "Bliss" and "X-Girlfriend" were serious contenders.
Glitter Lead The Way All My Life Reflections
Charmbracelet You Got Me Clown Lullaby I hesitated between "Lullaby" and "Yours"
The Emancipation Of Mimi Fly Like A Bird We Belong Together Joy Ride (the lovely chorus and the ending >>>>)
E=MCΒ² Side Effects I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time For The Record So many singles wasted for this album...
Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel H.A.T.E.U. it's A Wrap The Impossible Just like Emotions, I had a hard time picking only 3 tracks. "Betcha Gon Know" and "Ribbon" are other favorites of mine.
Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse Dedicated #Beautiful Make It Look Good "Cry" and "Faded" are other favorites of mine.

Does anyone know/remember an interview Mariah gave where she talked about "Emotions" being important in establishing her as more than a ballad singer? I think it was that rare long interview from the Rainbow era that was posted some time ago. It was that one, thanks. By the way, this is the article that came out of that interview: www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/WPcap/1999-11/14/071r-111499-idx.htmlIt contains an inaccuracy that I think Mariah has stated before, too, in saying "VOL" was #1 on the R&B chart before the Hot 100. It wasn't; it hit #1 on the Hot 100 a week before it went #1 on R&B. The article also claims that Mariah was going to sing the hook off the lead single of Jay-Z's next album at that time. I assume that was "Things That U Do," which never became a single.

Well, the message is uplifting in saying they will be reunited, but funnily enough at work yesterday (I work at a high school) some of the students were watching that Todrick Hall video that mixed '90s Disney songs with '90s pop songs. When the one with "OSD" came on, a girl immediately said, "I think that's the Mariah and Boyz II Men" song and then said "It's too sad for me."

How many people can even have a album full of number ones? The whole shade of is the title and the reminder. Regardless what it sells just having a album full of number ones and releasing it again to a whole new generation is THE SHADE.

How many people can even have a album full of number ones? And to be fair she could divide her #1 total by two and still have enough. Double LP?! It could be!

I think Vegas will be a very good workout for Mariah. Unlike the other signers she wont have the disipline it takes to stay there 2-3 years but 18 shows will do something to re-energize her career choices going forward. I hope #1s is successful album and I hope she has one good Sony studio album after that. then I will be satisfied with her career. (I wouldn't even mind if she retired after the next studio album, and only toured occasionally). true lamb

I really don't think Mariah is ready to retire. She still have a lot to give. I mean, Madonna is in her 50s something and she's still recording and touring and still getting a lot of buzz. Why can't Mariah still release albums? She's still young. Just because she doesn't hit #1 anymore it doesn't mean she's done or cant deliver good music.

I've been listening to MIAM all weekend. The first 11 songs are so good. It's like an R&B history lesson.

Mariah won't turn into a laughing stock if she just keeps making solid R&B albums and showing the world her voice. She doesn't need to retire at 50 just because she's 50. The only reason people would think of her as a "parody" is if she continues showing this over the top diva personality and making music videos where she's half naked and caressing herself; which for me, I really don't care about any of that, I think her personality is fucking hilarious, but the general public tends to think of it as immature. I think that this Vegas show will help boost her legacy, reminding people of her talent and her music, and she can continue to make amazing albums like the Elusive Chanteuse till the day she dies because she is a musical genius with a huge voice. Cut videos like #Beautiful out because it just makes people laugh at her, unfortunately.
