That whistle placement was so predictable. In that it was at the end of the song.... But the build DOWN to the whistle note wasn't predictable... I disagree. I knew exactly what was going to happen there. Standard Mariah. I wish she'd experiment a bit with the structure of her songs. |

I get not liking it based on the song and what you like or not but to anyone saying its not a "radio song" is missing the fact she seems to have realized that she isn't about that life anymore. Her music including "Beautiful" isn't really catering to radio. She to me seems more content to harken back to different eras and mix that with her sound and make music that appeals to her more than appealing to the mainstream.
I think musically she is very comfortable with her age even if her eternally 12 year old visually isn't.

I get what was being said about this fitting in with her other classics. I think if this song goes anywhere it will go somewhere because of the lyrics. Mariah was very bold in her attack on Nick in this one.
Her vocals are great on this one. I am not sure I am understanding why people are having difficulty understanding the lyrics. This is probably one of the few times Mariah does the speed singing where I have actually understood 90% of what she is singing.
The only knock is the production. I wish it came with a slightly harder production to match the lyrical ammo of this song.

"Infinity" is totally blah.
I don't necessarily hate it (as in it's not so obnoxious I don't have a desire to listen to it), but I don't like it at all either. It's just meh. I don't get the throwback 90's comments either. If anything this sounds like an E=MC² track, except with a more lush production in places.
I love that she ripped Nick a new one lol, but the lyrics themselves I'm not feeling. What else I'm not feeling? The vocals. Those speed sung verses, in particular - if that's not a throwback to 00's Mariah, I don't know what is - ain't doing her favors.
I can't see this doing anything at radio. The hook is weak as hell, and her trademark killer melodies are nowhere to be found here IMO.

Ehh. Don't really like it. Sounds like a mix of Memoirs and Elusive material, but it would be near the bottom for me on both albums. I wish the melody were stronger. I was really hoping this would be classic material (something like "#Beautiful"-- don't really care about how it does chart-wise) since it's capping off an album of eighteen #1 hits.

Didn't love it on first listen, but I did like the string sounds. It has the finger-snapping beat that many of the ballads have had since the mid-2000s, so I would have liked to hear something else.
To me, it has shades of "The Art of Letting Go" in spots.

I don't know what people were expecting. I wasn't expecting bells and whistles for a revamp of a #1s collection. I was expecting her to do just enough with the song to be like ok. I wasn't expecting her to go for a #Beautiful or You Don't Know What To Do. She will save those type of tracks for an actual album.
To me this song is like Touch My Body and You're Mine had a baby. This song is more instant for me because of the lyrics. The production is what bogs it down.

I like the song. it is a grower... she sounds good. As far as the pic, it's reality and not photo shopped. I wish she was more secure with how she really looks rather than trying to maintain an image that she is a size 6. she's beautiful and voluptuous and should embrace it. Hope the song is a success for her and promotes her incredible #1 catalogue. |
