The song is slightly whatever whatever, but it's very E=MC2 to me, so for that I'm extremely grateful and here for.

It definitely sounds better in the car, IMO. Not sure where the 90s feel is being heard/felt. This sounds more like a deleted cut from MOAIM or E=MC^2. It's not awful, but it's not anywhere close to a favorite of mine. I like it, but I don't love it.

I don't understand the "90's" references everyone is making either. Maybe Sony is paying journalists to incorporate that into their reviews. I am just so bummed that this is not an exciting song.

Lol. I feel like Sony is the one pushing that angle too. This song is very standard Mariah since 2008. I feel like the best way for Mariah to generate interest at this point is by working that 90s nostalgia angle, so I get it if that's what Sony is doing.

In that it was at the end of the song.... But the build DOWN to the whistle note wasn't predictable... I disagree. I knew exactly what was going to happen there. Standard Mariah. I wish she'd experiment a bit with the structure of her songs. She has all kinds of different structures to her songs. Just because she ends with a big note doesn't mean the structures are the same. Both "WBT" and "DFAU" end with a sustained belt, yet those songs have very different structures. I do NOT understand these sources - EW, Vanity Fair - saying "Infinity" is '90s. Huh? What about it is '90s?

It's almost like Up Out My Face meets Touch My Body. Two things that never needed to meet.
A step above Triumphant. But, a step below Art of Letting Go. And 10 steps below #B and Almost Home. Let me stop expressing my dislike for this before I get a warning.

kii crying Literally dying at the contact name in that...I totally missed it during the lyric video. Actually the lyric video I think was really well done. OK visually it looks like a Disney DVD, there were a lot of LOL moments during it and it was very Mariah.

::In my Randy Jackson voice:: it's just alright for me, dawg. I was expecting something a little more instant...whether it was a hit or not. This is the same ole, same ole just with different lyrics.
Love the attitude and sassiness though.

I really love the "Ain't no..." section and the harmonic "Duh" refrains. I wish she'd experiment a bit with the structure of her songs. In listening to the song, I do think it has some unique structure. There's the strings intro, and then Mariah's solo opening being the "mad" section that precedes the 1st verse. The song then follows a fairly standard verse-chorus structure, though the 2nd verse has a different melody than the 1st verse, and goes into a bridge. After the bridge and third chorus, though, we get the "You're leaving..." section and emotional closure of her finding self-love. That then settles into an outro. Anyway, has anyone heard this on radio yet?

I hate how in reviews for this there's a lot of hate for Chanteuse. I fucking live for that album.
Maybe it's Sony dig at her previous label or something.

Still love the song, but I am kind of wondering how it would sound if the "you're, leaving, you're leaving, you're out the door" part had been used as the hook (with "infiniteeeeeee" in the background). Maybe that would make that part less annoying/a more memorable hook to some people.
I don't see much point in wishing for different song structure from Mariah. Unless it's Emotions a whistle note doesn't really make sense anywhere else except at the end of the song, and if she got any more carried away with the arrangement we might be complaining that it feels messy, disjointed, or cluttered. Anyway, she's 25 years into her career, and if there were ever a time to be okay with someone feeling predictable and safe it is now. Most people are not here for adventure or change, they just want Mariah. This is probably about as close a return to form as we could get from her and I'm happy with it.
I think the verses are the '90s' that some people keep hearing. Like I said before, the song does remind me of Breakdown some, and it's because of the fast lyrics. The production is definitely mid-2000s, though.

This is already her second highest peaking single on iTunes this decade behind "#Beautiful". No way! :o Where did "You're Mine" peak at?

I just can't be disappointed with it. It met my expectations of what I thought she was going to give us. I definitely was not expecting another #Beautiful, Faded or Make It Look Good. I think it was smart for her to put out a solid song, and then go for the wow factor on her next studio album.
Having said that, she and Brett better deliver on the video for this. If she delivers a great video with this, it will help immensely. If not, it will do what every subpar video for her does help land the song into further oblivion.
I think if anything after Vegas and this album, they need to focus on bringing new producers into the mix that can update her sound but stay true to her roots as an artist. It won't be easy, but it needs to happen.

A lot of fans are overly critical. Just enjoy the music. And if you can't then BYE. See you here when she releases her next single.

This reminds me a little of Mary's "25/8," which isn't surprising cause Eric Hudson had a hand on that one as well. I appreciate the strings, but even that element could've been fleshed out better. I wish she would find a co-writing partner and producer that would allow her melodies to bang again.
Anyway, I need an urban remix stat, especially if that turns this bleak song on its head.

Also, the percussion during the chorus reminds me a lot of 2003-era production a la "Mesmerize"/"Tell Me"(Smilez & Southstar). I guess that's why it feels a little dated to me. Yes! I want the old school package.

I like Infinity but I'm not sure that its gonna do that well at radio. Mariah's voice sounds good. I'm surprised so many people are saying that they don't like it.
