Can not believe this album does not have a thread! But happy that I am opening it coz it is my favorite Madonna album LIKE A PRAYER 4th album by Madonna, from 1989. Six singles were issued from the album: ~"Like a Prayer" Released: March 3, 1989 ~"Express Yourself" Released: May 9, 1989 ~"Cherish" Released: August 1, 1989 ~"Oh Father" Released: October 24, 1989 ~"Dear Jessie" Released: December 10, 1989 ~"Keep It Together" Released: January 30, 1990 Not only that some songs are iconic - like Like a prayer and Express Yourself, but the videos for them are too! Besides the title track, Pray for Spanish Eyes is one of my favorite Madonna tracks! And this album is one of the few ( by any artist) that I can listen from 1st to last track! Your opinion?

Honestly, this is my least favorite 80s album from her. 'Cherish' & the title track are the only songs I love from this era.

I pretty much love everything except "Act of Contrition" and "Love Song." It's probably my second favorite Madonna 80's album after her debut. The title track is one of my all-time favorite songs.

It was the same situation with me Did not like those two But I started to like Love Song It is really good one And the act ... Consider it as a fun / loose myself song

Good album, but not one of my favs. I love Cherish & Till Death Do Us Apart, I don't know why the later wasn't a single

This was Madonna's first masterpiece to my ears. Many good songs covering multiple styles, smart lyrics and quite good vocals. Loved it. Order of preferred songs (matching their performance in my personal chart): - like a prayer - till death do us part - express yourself - cherish - keep it together - dear Jessie - oh father - Spanish eyes Didn't chart: - promise to try - love song - act of contrition

And you are right, this album has really great lyrics!

An exquisite album that separated her from the rest of the pop pack. As discussed in the Madonna thread, "Love Song" is my least favorite, but I've come to like it and appreciate its quirkiness.
Aside from it being a wonder of an album, let's not forget that she included AIDS-education literature inside.

With the exception of "Love Song" which has always been hard on my ears, this album is fantastic. Recently been playing "Till Death Do Us Part" a lot and I think the first three singles from this album are pop masterpieces. They really did a great job of capturing her voice on this record.

Listened to this album today- always a treasure. That "Dear Jessie"-"Oh Father" segue is fantastic.
She really touched on some good themes on this record- and I never thought of "Spanish Eyes" as being about AIDS until reading a review from Slant. Guess it makes sense, given she had AIDS-related literature in the album.

This is the album that elevated her to the next level. Lyrically, she had never really done anything this dynamic. So many amazing songs "Like A Prayer," "Oh Father," "Promise To Try," "Express Yourself," "Cherish," "Dear Jessie," "Til Death Do Us Part." And some of my favorite vocal performances of hers are on this album.
I've always been on the fence with "Love Song" though. And the album completely falls apart after "Oh Father" for me. Great album nonetheless.

I remember getting this album 10 years after it came out. This was a very good album. I love "Spanish Eyes", "Love Song", "Cherish", and "Dear Jessie". Oh Father was my go to song.

My 2nd favorite Madonna album and my favorite of hers in the 1980s. She varied the styles of a lot of the songs, yet almost all of them are strong ("Love Song" is the exception). It's one of the best pop albums ever, imo.

Still think this is her best album, though Confessions is pretty close.
