I was burned out on this last summer but I'm really getting into it again; I'd say it's my favorite from her.

I think it's going to be hard for this to take off with Royals & Team still in heavy rotation. If it explodes on iTunes after she performs it on the Billboard Music Awards i think it will move radio.

Her album sales went up 39% last week for no apparent reason that I can think of, other than Tennis Court going to radio. She's back at #10 on Billboard 200 for next week's edition.

Is Lorde something people's mom's like? My mom wanted Hunter Hayes and Sarah McLachlan.

Tennis Court is fantastic. I don't see why its not getting adds. Could be a totally absurd theory, but my concern with this song was always the "tennis court" reference itself. That's so not relatable for American teenagers, and it produces an unwanted disconnect. For Lorde, whose songs work BECAUSE they speak to the average person, that's kind of a problem. It really sells her as a normal girl from New Zealand rather than as a normal girl who could be from anywhere. Sometimes oddball references can work - I think the "you buy me orange juice" line in 400 Lux would have become a thing, which contributes to my feeling that said song absolutely should have been a single - but I'm not sure "Tennis Court" is the right one. That said, it IS a great song overall, and Lorde absolutely is a star at this point. I still see it making a solid, methodical run -- and a great performance Sunday could help accelerate that

I really think this is going to explode on digital after she performs it, but I still thinks its going to take a long time for this to catch up on radio.

I agree - it's a reach - but I'm just trying to figure out SOME explanation for why radio is resisting this one.

Well, radio totally resisted On top of the world wich did great everywhere and came after three big hits. Radio is resisting Human wich is a great song wich very good sales and not from a newbie. And radio promoted some songs from totally unknown artist without even good sales (and only dropped them if the the sales doesn't pick up after a while).
So the reasons why djs ignore some songs are really unknown. Anyway it's way too soon on this. Tennis Court had enough sales to be in the hot 100 without any airplay some months ago, and the fact that Team and Royals still have big airplay doesn't help, but i think this will pick up and gain traction really soon, or at least it's what i hope because it's a great song. Maybe it won't be as big as Royals or Team but hopefully it will be at least a solid top 10

She's still not a radio staple, and this isn't instant radio candy... so it will take time.

G&G was never officially sent for adds here. They bobbled for a bit between that and this, which arguably hasn't helped her cause.
Also not helping is radio's holding onto Royals so long with Team still in the mix - Royals only just left the Top 40 without recurrents this past Sunday.

This is working its way back up iTunes -- currently #102 -- so it'll be in position to surge after her BBMA performance.

#87 on iTunes at the time Lorde took the stage. We'll see how high it goes.
It was a good performance. Not her best vocal showing, but I think it did the job of getting the song across. And the zombie dancing was probably the most controlled it's looked.

Virtually no spike at all - up to 73. Since it was already on the way up anyway, that's a pretty disastrous reaction.
Granted, most of the bumps have been disappointing. The only ones making notable chart impressions are 5 Seconds of Summer, John Legend and Miranda/Carrie, and the lattermost would have happened without a performance.

She'll have 2 versions in the top 100 very soon. I don't think the reaction has been horrible. It's a 3rd single, it was always going to have a slow start.

By horrible, I'm referring specifically to the post-BBMA movement. Considering it had gone from 102-87 in the 18 hours or so BEFORE the performance, a jump to 69 after the performance is nothing too spectacular. The jump from 87-69 is, at most, the result of about 800 extra sales. And like I said, nothing has really moved that well. Save for Miranda-Carrie, which was going there the second it hit iTunes anyway, nothing rocketed into the Top 20 (maybe the 5SOS song is just getting there now), let alone ten.
