Happy is very overrated. It doesn't feel like a legendary hit a la Party Rock anthem, give me everything or Get Lucky. I think that Happy is lucky because there's no strong competition right now! On his album sales: it shows the majority of the people is not here for the song but radio forces us to like it because rAdio likes it. People has criticized Pit and Florida badly, but these guys earn their billboards hot 10 based on streaming and great digital sales! Not obvious payola. Pitbull could be better album seller if he got more radio support. Timber only got 125 million AI when was outselling counting stars and the monster all the time, but radio never treated it as a number 1. His last album, debuted with 64,000 with a single of only 60 million AI, on the other hand, Pharrel is predicted to sell 85,000 with a number 1 with 214 million AI! But Pit and Florida are the called single artists when they make number 1 with the third part of the airplay of Happy and dark horse. Believe me if Florida and Pit got the airplay of Katy and Pharrel, they would be better album sellers because their music is really memorable! Believe me, Pit and Flo Rida get plenty of airplay. And Happy was in the top 2 in sales long before reaching the top 10 in radio so I really don't know what you're talking about. Plenty of people love the song Happy otherwise it wouldn't have such monster sales (and continuing to increase).

Sh!t get me that job so my hard earned coins can go right back to the artist that I'm representing. Give it up for team work ya'll!

There's plenty of competetition out rn. Pharrell has a universal song that appeals to a massive audience that is just not for teeny boppers & dance clubs. Once when Pitbull, Pharrell, LMFAO, whomever puts out a song that truly crosses over to different demographics & audiences, they may receive the same treatment on radio like Pharrell.
It's not even fair to compare them simply b/c Pharrell is a different story, TBQH. Even w/these "low numbers" for P, he's already projected to debut higher & sell more than those acts I mentioned. Having your songs get extremely high AI does not equate to the general public going out to purchase that acts album that much faster. Yes, it'll help but not a guarantee. & the payloa accusation needs to be shot & buried. That's beyond ridiculous. Lol. If the label were seriously paying for those spins, they would also pay for his albums to make his opening numbers look good as well #Fact!
josh, we probably won't hearing anything about 'Partition' until tonight.

Believe me if Florida and Pit got the airplay of Katy and Pharrel, they would be better album sellers because their music is really memorable! You're over thinking this. It's a tremendously feel good song. I heard it way before it was even on the radio and I immediately started a playlist of upbeat songs based on it. It became really popular when Pharrell did that 24 hour video where it showed people just having a great time dancing and letting go--again that was before it reached radio so your theory about payola doesn't make sense. If there's payola it's probably no different than what any other artist does including Pitbull. A hit single doesn't always translate to album sales, especially as this song was in a movie and those movie fans may love the song but not be familiar with Pharrell. They're probably more inclined to buy the Despicable Me album than his. I do have a feeling that Pharrell's album will probably have some longevity to it though.

Sorry guys for my previous opinion. I was pressed because sometimes I don't understand how happy can get over 200 million AI, yet a song that changed the music industry like gamnan style was really snubbed by radio. Timber without the streaming rule, it wouldn't have made the top either, so I'm grateful with billboard for changing the rules. But I think the rules should be like this: 50% digital sales 30% streaming 20% radio

Every time I see a certain post, I die a little inside.
Anyways, it's great to see Happy doing well. It's a great record and Pharrell has really worked his ass off with all the hits he's done in the past year. I'm going to need him to do something with Gwen/No Doubt though.

I doubt 300 million people want to hear a Korean on their radio when their northern step child wants to bomb us.

I may not be a "happy" advocate, but that little essay you just wrote is pure trolling. Happy is currently on a two week consecutive 400k+ streak and will most likely get close to 600k on next weeks hot digital songs chart.

That's a bit uncalled for...I personally loved hearing the song on the radio (although I'm in Canada) and obviously many other people enjoyed it a lot if it was so popular. But that's beside the point. South Korea is in no way responsible for their "northern step child" wanting to bomb the U.S.; in fact, if I'm not mistaken, the two Koreas are in rivalry with each other as well so don't go blaming an innocent South Korean pop star for North Korea's actions.

You didn't read my previous message. I apologized for being pressed. Happy sells well I admit it, but it has to sell well. It gets 7 million AI everyday, with a commercial played everywhere, so it's not surprising the high sales. Surprising is when a song with less radio airplay than the competition like Timber sells 400,000k in a week. Happy never sold that much with 60 -100 million AI. I like the fact Pompeii keeps climbing..It was my favorite song of 2013 along with their album. Maybe it will outlast Radioactive...only 50 weeks to do so LOL. I am glad Justin Timberlake made it with Not A Bad Thing..it is better than the last 2 singles. I dont know if it will catch on or even make the Top 40 but I am hopin.

Maybe it will outlast Radioactive That is definatly not going to happen, Pompeii hit the top 5 after 29 weeks, radioactive hit the top 5 after 42 weeks. Pompeii would be lucky to get 60 weeks, tbqh. Plus, Imagine Deagons had the help of a remix, and a Grammy performance at the perfect timing. I also think Pompeii peaked / is close to peaking. No way Pompeii is getting the record. I do really like the song though, don't get me wrong.

If you're going to criticize music, then get your facts straight! Honestly...

That was before GS's major success in the USA. Afterwards he started showing respect and clearly apologized for the bad things he had said about America. Most likely because he doesn't want people in the U.S. to hate him, after all, the U.S. is full of people with money. He might or might not actually feel that way. That was before GS's major success in the USA. Afterwards he started showing respect and clearly apologized for the bad things he had said about America. yes, notice how he didn't apologize until after we started making him rich? I am personally sick of HAPPY. I don't mind any of the other 9 songs in the top 10. I still love hearing DARK HORSE! I hope Happy does not hang on for weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks. There are so many songs that should get a shot at #1 over the next month.

I like Happy, I liked Blurred lines..I dont like seeing a song stay for more than 6 or 7 weeks..it gets really boring...I dont know whats really coming up next but I hope its not someone who has had a ton of #1's already..Its time for some new artists to take the spot.

I think in 2012 and 2013 we had lots of new people getting #1 hits which was nice. Although recently we had a lot of established artists like Eminem, Rihanna, Pitbull, Ke$ha and Katy getting #1s. I don't know if that's coincidence or if we're going to be going back all the big pop stars getting the #1s now. I really wish Kid Ink - Show Me could be #1.
