www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.27763/title.hip-hop-album-sales-week-ending-3-2-2014Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 3/2/2014 by Andres Tardio posted March 05, 2014 The official first week numbers are in for ScHoolboy Q's "Oxymoron" and Kid Cudi's "SATELLITE FLIGHT: The journey to Mother Moon." Two of the year's most anticipated Rap projects, ScHoolboy Q's Oxymoron and Kid Cudi's SATELLITE FLIGHT: The journey to Mother Moon, make their chart debuts this week on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart. Meanwhile, Eminem continues to make waves on the chart with his 2013 album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2. ScHoolboy Q's Oxymoron Is #1 ScHoolboy Q's Oxymoron is this week's highest debut on the chart. The TDE/Aftermath Entertainment project sold 138,950 copies this week to earn the #1 spot on the chart. Oxymoron, which can be streamed here, is ScHoolboy Q's major label debut album, a project that earned the Top Dawg emcee a 3.5 out of 5 in the collection's HipHopDX review. "In many ways, Oxymoron delivers exactly as advertised," HipHopDX said of the album in its review. "It’s an ominous project that also needs a few radio reaches to provide ScHoolboy Q a platform to achieve mainstream success. You want a guy like Q to bring home a gold or platinum plaque, but will you endure the strategic placement of some Top 40 bait to see it happen?" Kid Cudi's SATELLITE FLIGHT: The journey to Mother Moon Arrives At #4 Kid Cudi's SATELLITE FLIGHT: The journey to Mother Moon, which arrives at #4, is the week's second-highest rated debut on the chart. The album sold 87,122 copies in its first week. SATELLITE FLIGHT, which can be streamed here, is Cudi's most recent effort, which earned the rapper-singer a 4 out of 5 in the album's HipHopDX review. "Flaws and all, SATELLITE FLIGHT: The journey to Mother Moon stands as one of Kid Cudi’s biggest accomplishments," HipHopDX says of the album. "Rejuvenated. Recreated. Rebooted. Call it what you will. Scott Mescudi made an EP’s worth of material feel like an album, and he did it without surrendering his artistic integrity in the process. If SATELLITE FLIGHT truly is a bridge between Indicud and Man on the Moon III, fans will be in for a treat when the third installment is finally released." Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 Remains In Top 20 Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 continues to succeed on the chart as it lands in the #17 slot, though sales for the project decreased from last week. Eminem's most recent album has sold 1,975,597 units overall. This week, the album sold 17,662 units, a 6 percent drop from last week's 18,845 units sold. In February, Eminem celebrated the 15-year anniversary of his debut album, The Slim Shady LP. At the time, Eminem's longtime manager Paul Rosenberg spoke about how he's viewed Eminem through the years. "He's always been a studio rat," Paul Rosenberg said at the time. "He goes hours at a clip without leaving the booth. When he's determined and on a creative spark, there's nothing else he's focused on. That's been the same since day one." jumpyboo, you posted this in the Hot 100 thread, but not here. So I'm posting for you. www.billboard.com/articles/news/5923183/schoolboy-q-oxymoron-debuts-at-no-1-on-billboard-200-albums-chartScHoolboy Q's 'Oxymoron' Debuts at No. 1 On Billboard 200 Albums Chart By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | March 05, 2014 As forecast, ScHoolboy Q's major-label debut,"Oxymoron," bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 139,000 copies in the week ending March 2, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, the new album is ScHoolboy Q's first in a joint-venture deal with Interscope Records. It's also the first No. 1 for Top Dawg, which previously reached No. 2 with Kendrick Lamar's "good kid, m.A.A.D city" in 2012. ScHoolboy Q's arrival with "Oxymoron" also instantly gives the rapper his best-selling album. He previously charted with two independently released sets — "Setbacks" in 2011 and "Habits & Contradictions" in 2012. They have sold 17,000 and 48,000, respectively. "Oxymoron" also logs the largest debut for a rap album since Eminem's No. 1 set "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" clocked an opening week of 792,000 in the week ending Nov. 10, 2013. Behind "Oxymoron" is the soundtrack to Disney's "Frozen" movie, which slips one rung to No. 2 with 91,000 (up 2%). It's the ninth straight week the album has spent in one of the top two positions of the chart. The film earned two Academy Awards on Sunday, March 2: for best original song ("Let It Go") and for best animated feature. At No. 3 on the Billboard 200, Beck nabs his second-highest charting album ever, as "Morning Phase" starts with a littlemore than 87,000. He's only charted higher once before, when 2005's "Guero" debuted and peaked at No. 2. The new album also logs a better opening than Beck's last album, "Modern Guilt," which launched at No. 4 with 84,000 in 2008. In total, "Morning Phase" is Beck's 10th album to chart and fifth top 10 effort. Kid Cudi's stealth release "Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon" debuts at No. 4 with 87,000. The digital-only set debuted exclusively on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon MP3 on Tuesday (Feb. 25) with little advance warning. And, in its first week, it was only available as a full album purchase — none of its tracks were available a la carte. The set — his fourth — was released to other digital retailers on March 3. Kid Cudi's last album, 2013's "Indicud," debuted and peaked at No. 2 with a start of 136,000. "Satellite Flight" is the rapper's fourth top 10 effort. Next up on the Billboard 200, Romeo Santos achieves the biggest sales week for a Latin album since 2006, as his "Formula: Vol. 2" debuts at No. 5 with 85,000. The last Latin title to shift more in a week was pop group RBD with "Celestial," when it debuted with 117,000 in the week ending Nov. 26, 2006. The last solo male artist to tally a larger week than Santos was Daddy Yankee, who moved 89,000 copies of his "Barrio Fino: En Directo" in its second week (ending Dec. 18, 2005). This is the second top 10 album for Santos, whose first solo set, "Formula: Vol. 1," debuted and peaked at No. 9 in 2011. Further, this is the highest-charting Latin album on the Billboard 200 since Mana's "Drama y Luz" debuted and peaked at No. 5 in 2011. Dierks Bentley's "Riser" is next up in the debut parade, as it enters at No. 6 with 63,000. It's his highest-charting set — and best sales week — since 2009's "Feel That Fire" debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 71,000. Since then, he has released the bluegrass effort "Up on the Ridge" (No. 9 debut in 2010, with 39,000 units in its first week) and 2012's "Home" (No. 7 with 55,000). In total, all seven of Bentley's full-length albums released after his self-titled debut (which peaked at No. 26) have reached the top 10. Next up on the Billboard 200, Eric Church's former No. 1 album, "The Outsiders," descends 2-7 in its third week with 43,000 (down 42%). The Fray's "Helios" is the sixth and final debut in the top 10, as the pop/rock band's latest album starts at No. 8 with 37,000. It's the third top 10 set for the act, whose last album, 2012's "Scars & Stories," debuted and peaked at No. 4 (87,000). Pop Shop Podcast: Pharrell & The Fray Interview In this week's episode, we discuss Pharrell's "Happy" hitting No. 1 before the Fray stops by for an interview. Subscribe to the podcast on iTunes HERE. The "Now 49" compilation and Beyonce's self-titled album round out the top 10. The former falls 4-9 with 34,000 (down 25%) while "Beyonce" dips 5-10 with 32,000 (down 9%). Over on the Digital Songs chart, Pharrell's "Happy" spends another week at No. 1, selling 413,000 downloads (up 3%). A week ago, it sold 402,000. "Happy" is the first song to earn two straight weeks of more than 400,000 in sales since another Pharrell-related song: "Blurred Lines." The Robin Thicke-led track (which featured T.I. and Pharrell) sold in excess of 400,000 in the three consecutive weeksending June 23, 2013. "Happy" has a gain thanks to its growing popularity on the radio and because of its performance on the Academy Awards on March 2. On the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart (known as Pop Songs on Billboard.com), "Happy" rises 10-4. Back on the Digital Songs chart, Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty" moves up 3-2 with 217,000 (down 12%) while Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" (featuring Juicy J) descends 2-3 with 212,000 (down 16%). John Legend's "All of Me" is steady at No. 4 with 198,000 (down 2%). Idina Menzel's "Let It Go" rises to a new chart peak, as it climbs 7-5 with 130,000 (up 4%), its third-largest sales week yet. The song nets its first weekly sales gain in three weeks, thanks to Menzel(aka Adele Dazeem)'s performance of the Oscar-winning cut on the ABC-broadcast Academy Awards. The song's total sales now stand at 1.5 million. Bastille's "Pompeii" slips 5-6 with 128,000 (down 10%), Aloe Blacc's "The Man" falls 6-7 with 120,000, and a Great Big World & Christina Aguilera's "Say Something" remains at No. 8 with 110,000 (down 8%). Lorde's "Team" climbs 10-9 with 101,000 (down 9%), and Pitbull's "Timber," featuring Ke$ha, moves 9-10 with 95,000 (down 15%). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending March 2) totaled 5.1 million units, up 5% compared with the sum last week (4.8 million) and down 13% compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (5.8 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 42.8 million, down 15% compared with the same total at this point last year (50.4 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 23million downloads, down 6% compared with last week (24.4 million) and down 12% stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (26.1 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 224.1 million, down 12% compared with the same total at this point last year (253.4 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2013 when: Luke Bryan's "Spring Break … Here to Party" debuted at No. 1 with 150,000. Jimi Hendrix's "People, Hell & Angels" was the second-highest new entry, bowing at No. 2 with 72,000.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/music-news/chart-watch-schoolboy-q-bumps-frozen-190652691.htmlChart Watch: ScHoolboy Q Bumps “Frozen” By Paul Grein, Yahoo Music ScHoolboy Q makes hitting #1 look as easy as learning your ABCs. The Los Angeles rapper enters The Billboard 200 in the top spot with his first major-label album, "Oxymoron." ScHoolboy Q is the first hip-hopper to break through to his first #1 album since Wale scored in June with "The Gifted." J. Cole, Jay Z, Drake and Eminem have all hit #1 since then, but they had all topped the chart previously. ScHoolboy Q had two previous albums, but neither rose above #100. ScHoolboy Q has been featured on several hit albums, including A$AP Rocky's "Long.Live.A$AP," which hit #1 in January 2013, and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's "The Heist," which reached #2 in October 2012. (He was featured on that album's fourth hit, "White Walls," which reached #15 on the Hot 100.) "Oxymoron" sold 139K copies in its first week. That includes 92K digital copies, which also puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums. ScHoolboy Q (real name: Quincy Matthew Hanley) is the first "Quincy" to reach #1. You may be surprised to learn that the legendary Quincy Jones never had a #1 album. His highest-charting album as an artist was "Body Heat," which reached #6 in 1974. "Q" did produce two #1 albums for Michael Jackson ("Thriller" and "Bad") and produced the title track on the chart-topping "We Are The World" collection. ScHoolboy Q was born on a military base in Wiesbaden, Germany. Other chart-topping artists who were born to military personnel based in Germany include Jackson Browne and Rob Thomas. The "Frozen" soundtrack dips from #1 to #2. Initial projections had it dropping to #4, but it held up better than expected. The movie won two Oscars on Sunday, the last night of the tracking week. This is the album's ninth consecutive week at #1 or #2. It's the first soundtrack to spend nine weeks in the top two since "Titanic" logged 16 weeks in the top two (all of them at #1) in 1998. Both of these soundtracks spawned Oscar-winners for Original Song. "Frozen" is #1 on Top Soundtracks for the 14th week. The movie was in the top 10 at the box-office for the 14th weekend. Beck's "Morning Phase" debuts at #3. It's his second highest-charting album to date, behind only "Guero," which debuted and peaked at #2 in 2005. (It's his highest-charting album to date in the U.K., where it debuts at #4.) Want a little trivia? "Morning Phase" is the first top 10 album with a title that begins with the word "Morning" to crack the top 10 since Incubus' "Morning View," which debuted and peaked at #2 in October 2001. (I think the key word there was "little.") Kid Cudi's "Satellite Flight: The Journey To Mother Moon" debuts at #4. All four of his studio albums have made the top five. The album is digital-only and is available only as a full album (in both cases, like Beyonce's "Beyonce" in its first week on the market in December). Romeo Santos' "Formula, Vol. 2" debuts at #5. The album features an impressive roster of guest stars, including Drake, Nicki Minaj, Santana and Marc Anthony. The #5 debut marks an improvement over "Formula, Vol. 1," which debuted and peaked at #9 in November 2011. Santos first reached the top 10 as a member of the "bachata" group Aventura. That group's "The Last" reached #5 in June 2009. "Formula, Vol. 2" is the highest-charting Latin album on The Billboard 200 since Mana's "Drama y Luz" debuted and peaked at #5 in April 2011. Santos' album sold 85K copies, which is the highest one-week sales tally for a Latin album since RBD's "Celestials" sold 117K in its first week in November 2006 (when it debuted at #15). Dierks Bentley's "Riser" debuts at #6. (Herb Alpert took an album titled "Rise" to #6 in 1979. So adding the "r" didn't gain Bentley's album even a single notch.) "Riser" enters Top Country Albums at #1, displacing Eric Church's "The Outsiders." It's Bentley's fifth #1 country album. That's all of his albums since 2005, except for 2010's bluegrass-influenced "Up On The Ridge," which peaked at #2. Pharrell Williams's "Happy" sold 413K copies, which puts it at #1 on Hot Digital Songs for the third week. It's the first song to sell at least 400K copies two weeks running since Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" (which featured Williams, along with T.I.). That smash topped 400K for three straight weeks last summer. Will "Happy" log its second week at #1 on the Hot 100? Of course it will. It'll be official later today when we post my first of two Songs blogs. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 albums. The Top Five: ScHoolboy Q's "Oxymoron" debuts at #1 (139K). Metallica's "Through The Never" is #1 on Top Music Videos for the fifth straight week. It's the first video by a rock band to log five straight weeks at #1 since Rush's "Beyond The Lighted Stage" spent 10 consecutive weeks on top in 2010. Also due: Rick Ross' "Mastermind," Lea Michele's "Louder," American Authors' "Oh What A Life," David Nail's "I'm A Fire" and Eli Young Band's "10,000 Towns."

This is Ru's highest-charting title, and his first appearance since the debut album.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/5930151/chart-moves-jake-buggs-american-idol-performance-leads-to-551-sales-gainChart Moves: Jake Bugg's 'American Idol' Performance Leads to 551% Sales Gain, Celtic Woman Collects 10th No. 1 By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | March 06, 2014 This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, ScHoolboy Q nabbed his first No. 1 with "Oxymoron," while the top 10 welcomed a total of six debuts. That's the most arrivals in the top 10 since last November. Outside the very busy top 10, there were a number of movers and shakers. Let's take a closer look at some of them… -- Celtic Woman, "Emerald: Musical Gems" (No. 29): The Irish vocal act celebrates its 10th No. 1 on the World Albums chart with this new album, tying with Celtic Thunder for the most No. 1s in the tally's nearly 24-year history. -- Soundtrack, "Girls: Volume 2" (No. 37): The soundtrack flies from No. 198 to No. 37, selling 9,000 copies for the week (up 26%). The Feb. 23 episode of the show featured two of the album's songs (by Lily Allen and Miguel), which is likely a driver behind its sales spike. -- Soundtrack, "Son of God" (No. 67): The film is a distilled version of 2013 "The Bible" TV miniseries, and the "God" soundtrack (5,000 sold) also borrows four songs from the previously charting Bible album. -- Brian Culbertson, "Another Long Night Out" (No. 83): The Indiegogo-funded album also debuts at No. 1 on the Contemporary Jazz Albums chart -- his sixth leader. The set features a bevy of guests, including Lee Ritenour, Russ Freeman, Candy Dulfer and Chuck Loeb. -- Jake Bugg, "Shangri La" (No. 94): The singer/songwriter performed on "American Idol" on Feb. 27, thus causing a sales surge and reentry for this set (up 551%). He also scores a return to the chart with his self-titled album at No. 200, gaining by 297%. After his performance, he told the BBC that he only performed on the show at the request of Keith Urban, who is a judge on the series. Bugg also referred to "Idol" as a "dream smasher" and "cruel," with regards to how it dismisses contestants. -- Of Monsters and Men, "My Head Is An Animal" (No. 142): Of Monsters and Men's "My Head Is Animal" reaches its milestone 100th week on the Billboard 200 chart. The Republic set slips 135-142 on the list, selling another 3,000 in the week ending March 2 (down 8%, according to Nielsen SoundScan). Since debuting and peaking on the April 21, 2012-dated chart at No. 6, the album has never left the tally. And it has consistently popped in-and-out-of the top 100 positions in three consecutive years. (It most recently visited the region with the Feb. 1 chart.) The album's total sales are approaching 1 million, as the set has now shifted 996,000. -- Soundtrack, "American Hustle" (No. 146): A March 1 sale on soundtracks at Amazon MP3 helps this title rise with a 97% gain. The $3.99 pricing also aids "Les Miserables" (up by 73%) and "The Lion King" (up 401%), which are Nos. 9 and 10 on the Soundtrack Albums chart. -- Fitz and the Tantrums, "More Than Just a Dream" (No. 178): A performance of the group's "The Walker" on ABC's "Good Morning America" pumps the set's 32% increase and a reentry at No. 178. "The Walker," meanwhile, becomes the band's first Billboard Hot 100 hit, bowing at No. 93.

I'm sure he enjoys the sales increase.

No. I think I switched the figures or it was a typo. Physical albums are still outselling digital.
