Upon first listen, I'll say this is a pretty solid album overall. I'm definitely a big Jo Dee Messina fan and I'll be getting this eventually, as I have all her other studio records (including the Unmistakable EPs). There's a lot of great songs on here that would work at radio if she had the promotional means to turn them into hits. It's too bad she's been relegated to has-been status as far as that goes, because Curb really botched her career after 2005, because she was huge during her prime (so much so that several of her hits are still popular recurrents, despite a lack of any recent hits).
The first two singles, "Not Dead Yet," and "Love on a Maybe" stood out to me the most on my initial listen.

This is a great album!
My favorite songs are tracks 11 and 12. "He's Messed Up" is just a kick ass jam! "Goodbye to Superman" all I got to say is wow, I lost it when I heard this song. This is the type of song that made me fall in love with Country music. It's a story that so many people can relate to in every day life that just rips your heart out. It is the classic type song that artists like Dolly, Reba, Patty, Tammy, and so many of the 70s-90s female greats sang. This is the type of song I want to hear on radio today and is long gone sadly. The last time there was a gut punching song this good on radio from a female it was "House that Built Me." "Goodbye to Superman" is everything a true Country song should be.

I've had the album for a few weeks now and the only song I've not warmed up to is "Take It", everything else is either good or great. I love that she's never lost that great energy she brings to her songs, it's always been her greatest strength in my opinion. I know she's not really going to chart on the main chart but the Indicator charts she's doing decently so I'm hoping they put out a few singles and we get at least 3 videos lol It may sound a little greedy video wise for a small label but she hasn't had a video since "Too Late To Worry" so I've been craving for some. Single wise I'd go 01. Peace Sign 02. A Woman's Rant 03. Love On A Maybe 04. Say Goodbye To Superman 05. Breaking It Down 06. Like A Kid Again I know there's probably not going to be that many singles but in a perfect world she's have all those released and they'd all go top 10.

I really like this album. Jo Dee has such a distinctive style and voice that you know who is singing right away. I got the album this week - it was a little more than I wanted to pay, but I was OK with that considering how she had to release her album.
I still love "Peace Sign" and think it was a great way to kick off awareness for the album. It's probably my favourite song on Me, but there are a number of enjoyable tracks. I also really like "Strong Shot Of You" and "He's Messed Up". I think either of them would have made a better second single than "A Woman's Rant", which I do like also. "Love On A Maybe" is quite good too, and reminds me a lot of some of Jo Dee's earlier material.
I was glad to see Patricia Conroy listed as a writer on "Me". I haven't heard anything about her in quite awhile, so it's nice to see that she's still somewhat active in country music. "Like A Kid Again" reminds me of something that Wynonna might have cut in the later stages of her career. It's not my favourite song on the album, but I do like it, as well. As others have said, "Say Goodbye To Superman" is a great ballad that reminds me of something some of the greats of the past would have recorded. It reminds me of a cross between Jo Dee's "You Were Just Here" and Reba's "He Gets That From Me". I doubt it would have any place on country radio now, regardless of who sang it or what label they are on, but it's a very good song.
Overall, I was impressed with this album. In any case, it's nice to get Jo Dee's first full length studio album in nearly 10 years. I know she has basically no chance of scoring a radio hit, but I'm glad that she found a way to make the album she wanted to make, and was able to get it out there. I'll be interested to see how many copies she was able to sell. I'm not sure how many stores she was able to get her album into. I got my copy from Amazon, and I never saw a copy in a store (but I wasn't really looking, either).

Glad to hear she was involved here. I know she has been "busy" in Canadian country circles. She had cowritten three tunes for Michelle Wright's recent album Strong: "I'll Cry Too" and two singles, "Another Good Day" and "Crazy Stupid Love." She had also cowritten with Small Town Pistols, and they released that song last year, too: "Anthem of a Runaway."

I haven't really been anywhere in the past week to see for myself, but she posted on Facebook (I believe) that Wal-Mart and Best Buy had the album. I remember reading that.

Since I don't really listen to the radio anymore, and I don't get CMT now, I really been out of touch with Canadian country for the past three or four years. Patricia was a real talent in the early to mid 90s, I'm surprised she never broke the US market. I'm also glad to hear that some major chains are carrying Jo Dee's album. I don't think that Walmart in Canada is (at least it's not on their website) but being sold at Walmart in the US should help her sales immensely.

www.roughstock.comJo Dee Messina's first album outside of Curb Records, Me, sold 2,600 copies in its first week ... I'm not sure how to feel about this. One the one hand, 2,600 sold in its opening week is awful. On the other, she has been gone so long, and is essentially returning 10 years later without a hit, and without a major label to support and promote her. Time will tell how this ends up doing, but hopefully she is able to make the Kickstarter money back, at least. The album also debuted at #19 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart.

I have just gotten around to playing this, and I am very glad I made the time! I want to list some standouts, but I apologize in advance for listing this many: "Strong Shot of You," "Love On a Maybe," "Breakin' It Down," "Peace Sign," "Take It," "I'm Free," and "Say Goodbye To Superman." Even the ones I have not listed are worthy. I was really, really pleased with this. Shame that very few people will hear this.
