www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.27959/title.hip-hop-album-sales-week-ending-3-16-2014Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 3/16/2014 by Andres Tardio posted March 19, 2014 09:00:00 AM CDT Rick Ross's "Mastermind" appears in the Top 3, Young Money's "Rise Of An Empire" enters the chart in the Top 10, ScHoolboy Q's "Oxymoron" remains in the Top 15 and Eminem's "MMLP2" passes reaches a milestone on this week's Billboard Top 200 albums chart. This week on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart, Rick Ross's Mastermind experiences a drop. The album, which has been available for two weeks, went from #1 to #3 in a week, dropping 73 percent since its first week. Meanwhile, Aloe Blacc makes his chart debut at #4 and Young Money's Rise Of An Empire makes its chart debut, entering the field at #7. Elsewhere, Pharrell's G I R L remains in the Top 5 and ScHoolboy Q's Oxymoron falls from last week's #8 to this week's #15. Rick Ross's Mastermind Falls To # 3 Rick Ross's Mastermind falls to #3 this week, a 73 percent decrease from last week's 179,000 copies sold. This week, the project sold 49,000 units of an album that earned a 3 out 5 in its HipHopDX review. "Listening to any Rick Ross record requires an overwhelmingly prodigious imagination," HipHopDX says in its review. "It also requires an innate appreciation of harmless deception; it’s a lot like being an adult at a magic show: you know it’s not really magic, but there’s something wondrous about having your perception of reality challenged...Rozay’s sixth studio album, Mastermind, once again explores his heavily dramatized excursions as a drug tycoon with great depth, but it reads more insincerely than ever and his imagination has seemingly reached its limit." Aloe Blacc's Lift Your Spirit Lands At #4 & Pharrell's G I R L Falls To #5 Aloe Blacc's Lift Your Spirit is this week's #4 album on the Billboard Top 200 chart. The album, crafted by the Emanon emcee, sold 45,414 units in its first full week of availability. Lift Your Spirit recently earned a 3 out of 5 in its HipHopDX review. Elsewhere, Pharrell's G I R L, another mostly-sung project from a rapper-singer, appears at #5 on this week's chart. The album went from 112,029 units last week to selling 45,242 copies this week. This 60 percent decrease in sales drops the project from last week's #2 placement. Overall, G I R L, which earned a 3.5 out of 5 in its HipHopDX review, has sold 157,776 units. Young Money's Rise Of An Empire Enters Charts At #7 Young Money's Rise Of An Empire entered the charts at #7 this week. When the album was announced, Cash Money's Baby said YMCMB was "stronger than ever," and that every contributor to the project "was truly on fire." In its first week out, Rise Of An Empire sold approximately 32,000 copies and earned a 2.5 out of 5 in its HipHopDX review. "Where We Are Young Money portrayed the label as one big Playboy-Mansion-style party, Empire offers a gloomy portrait of a house divided." HipHopDX says in its review of the project. ScHoolboy Q's Oxymoron Drops To #15 ScHoolboy Q's Oxymoron continues falling on the charts. This week, Oxymoron falls from #8 to #15. The album sold $16,000 copies, a 46 percent decrease in sales from last week's 30,000 copies sold. Overall, Oxymoron, which earned a 3.5 out of 5 in its HipHopDX review, has sold 185,000 units since its release. "In many ways, Oxymoron delivers exactly as advertised," HipHopDX says in its album review. "It’s an ominous project that also needs a few radio reaches to provide ScHoolboy Q a platform to achieve mainstream success. You want a guy like Q to bring home a gold or platinum plaque, but will you endure the strategic placement of some Top 40 bait to see it happen?" Before the album was released, ScHoolboy spoke about how Oxymoron would sound. “People may get confused by ‘Collard Greens’ and ‘Man Of The Year,’” ScHoolboy Q said at the time. “The album really sounds nothing like it. I’d rather them listen to it and see what they get. I’ve been explaining this album for so f**king long that I’m at the point where I really don’t know what to say about it.” Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 Passes 2 Million Units Sold Mark Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 reached a milestone this week as it passed the 2,000,000 units sold mark. The album, which has been available for 19 weeks, landed this week at #20 and sold 13,278 units. Overall, the album, commonly stylized as MMLP2, has sold 2,003,749 copies. In November, Eminem spoke about his thought process on this album."Once I had the direction that I wanted to go, and you know calling it The Marshall Mathers LP 2, obviously I knew that there might be certain expectations," Eminem said at the time. "Like, I wouldn't want to just call it that just for the sake of calling it that. So I wanted to make sure that I had the right songs to be able to call it that. So, a lot of recording. A lot of songs that people probably will never hear. We hit a couple of road blocks. There were songs where the beat leaked or a producer sold the beat to someone else or whatever. And just when you think you got it or you got the right amount of songs you go back and you listen and you're like, 'f**k man! I feel like it needs this or this' to paint the whole picture." www.billboard.com/articles/news/5937701/frozen-returns-to-no-1-on-billboard-200-for-sixth-week'Frozen' Returns To No. 1 On Billboard 200 For Sixth Week By Keith Caulfield, L.A. | March 19, 2014 New albums by Aloe Blacc, 311, Young Money & Sara Evans arrive in the Top 10. Spring is just around the corner, but don't tell the "Frozen" soundtrack. The wintry Disney album returns to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 99,000 copies in the week ending March 16 (down less than 1 percent), according to Nielsen SoundScan. A week ago, "Frozen" sold 100,000 at No. 3. With its latest weekly sales sum, "Frozen" becomes the first album to sell a million units in 2014 (1.1 million this year). Its total sales stand at 1.4 million, as the set was released last November, and it sold 338,000 in 2013. This is the sixth nonconsecutive week atop the chart for "Frozen." It first topped the list dated Jan. 18, reflecting the sales week that ended Jan. 5. Since SoundScan began powering the Billboard 200 with its point-of-sale data in May 1991, "Frozen" is one of just four soundtracks with six or more weeks at No. 1. The last soundtrack to spend more time at No. 1 was the companion album to another Disney animated film, "The Lion King." It roared at No. 1 for 10 nonconsecutive weeks in 1994 and 1995. The all-time champ for weeks at No. 1 (for both soundtracks and all albums in general) is "West Side Story," with a 54-week reign in 1962 and 1963. Coming in at No. 2 on the latest Billboard 200 is Luke Bryan's "Spring Break 6 … Like We Ain't Ever" EP with 74,000 sold. The digital-exclusive set is the latest in the country star's spring break-themed EPs, which launched in 2009 with "Spring Break With All My Friends." Last year, he topped the chart with "Spring Break … Here toParty," which was a compilation of previously released tracks from the series. Last week's No. 1, Rick Ross' "Mastermind," slips to No. 3 with 49,000 (down 73 percent). Aloe Blacc notches his best week ever as his third album, "Lift Your Spirit," bows at No. 4 with a little more than 45,000. His last full-length set, "Good Things," was released in 2010 and missed the Billboard 200. The vocalist behind Avicii's hit song "Wake Me Up" most recently charted with his own "Wake Me Up" EP, which reached No. 32 in January. Pharrell Williams' "G I R L" dips 2-5 with 45,000 (down 60 percent). Rock band 311 collects its ninth top 10 album with the arrival of "Stereolithic" at No. 6. Since 1997, all nine of the group’s full-length non-live albums have debuted in the top 10. The Young Money crew nets its second top 10 album, as "Rise of an Empire" bows at No. 7 with 31,000. That's a rather steep sales drop from the bow of the collective's last set, 2009's "We Are Young Money." It entered with 142,000 sold in the busy shopping Christmas shopping week ending Dec. 27, 2013. Even though it had alarger sales figure, it started lower (No. 9) than the new album. Lorde's "Pure Heroine" celebrates its six-month anniversary on the list, falling 7-8 with a little more than 27,000 (down 13 percent) in its 24th chart week. Pop Shop Podcast: Pharrell, Lea Michele & More Sara Evans nabs her fourth top 10 album as "Slow Me Down" starts at No. 9 with 27,000. It's also her fourth straight top 10 set, stretching back to 2005's No. 3 hit "Real Fine Place." Eric Church's former No. 1 album, "The Outsiders," rounds out the top 10, as it descends 9-10 with 23,000 (down 23 percent). Over on the Digital Songs chart, Pharrell's "Happy" is steady at No. 1, selling another 364,000 downloads (down 26 percent). The next two titles are both non-movers, as John Legend's "All of Me" (215,000; up 3 percent) and Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty," featuring 2 Chainz (198,000; up 1 percent) are Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. "Talk Dirty" also crosses the 2 million sales mark this week (2.2 million), becoming Derulo's fourth song to do so. His biggest-selling song is "Whatcha Say," with 4 million sold. Katy Perry's "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J, rides 5-4 with 165,000 (down 9 percent). The song jumps past the 4million sales threshold as well (4.1 million), marking Perry's seventh song to sell at least 4 million. Idina Menzel's "Let It Go" falls 4-5 with 122,000 (down 34 percent). The Chainsmokers' viral hit "#SELFIE" climbs 10-6 with 111,000 (up 26 percent). Bastille's "Pompeii" descends 6-7 with 106,000 (down 9 percent), Blacc's "The Man" is stationary at No. 8 with 97,000 (down 10 percent), and DJ Snake & Lil Jon's "Turn Down for What" jumps 15-9 with 83,000 (up 10 percent). It's the first top 10 for DJ Snake and the first for Lil Jon since his "Snap Yo Fingers" hit No. 9 in 2006. American Authors' "Best Day of My Life" also nets its first week in the top 10, stepping 11-10 with 82,000 (down 3 percent). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending March 16) totaled 4.6 million units, down 8% compared with the sum last week (5 million) and down 18% compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (5.6 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 52.3 million, down 15% compared with the same total at this point last year (61.4 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 21.8 million downloads, down 5 percent compared with last week (23 million) and down 11 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (24.6 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 268.9 million, down 11 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (303.4 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2013 when: Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" debuted at No. 1 with 968,000. Kacey Musgraves' "Same Trailer Different Park" arrived in a distant second place with 43,000.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/music-news/chart-watch-frozen-place-1-193233473.htmlChart Watch: “Frozen” In Place At #1By Paul Grein - Yahoo Music - March 19, 2014 The "Frozen" soundtrack returns to #1 on The Billboard 200. This is its sixth week on top. That's the longest that any soundtrack has held the top spot since "Titanic" stayed on top for 16 weeks in 1998. Both of these soundtracks spawned Oscar-winners for Original Song. The release of the "Frozen" DVD this week will almost certainly keep the soundtrack at #1 for a seventh week next week. This is the album's 12th consecutive week in the top five. "Frozen" is the first soundtrack from a theatrically-released movie to spend 12 or more weeks in the top five since "City Of Angels" had a 16-week run from April to August 1998. (Just before that, "Titanic" spent 18 weeks in the top five from January to May 1998.) Also this week, "Frozen" becomes the first album to sell 1 million copies in 2014. This is the third time in the Nielsen SoundScan era that the first album to sell 1 million copies in calendar year was a soundtrack. "Waiting To Exhale" was the first album to sell 1 million copies in 1996. "Titanic" was the first album to sell 1 million copies in 1998. "Frozen" reached 1M in the week ending March 16. That's two weeks faster than the first album to cross the 1M mark in 2013—Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience," which achieved the feat in the week ending March 31. "Frozen" is #1 on Top Soundtracks for the 16th week. The movie was in the top 10 at the box-office for the 16th weekend. Luke Bryan's "Spring Break 6...Like We Ain't Ever" enters The Billboard 200 at #2. It's his fourth album or EP to reach #1 or #2 in less than three years. The digital-only release also enters Top Digital Albums at #1. The EP also enters Top Country Albums at #1, displacing Eli Young Band's "10,000 Towns." It's Bryan's fourth #1 on that chart. Bryan is the first artist to occupy the #1 spot on Top Country Albums with four albums or EPs in this decade. (Runners-up, with three #1 albums each: Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum, Blake Shelton and Kenny Chesney.) Also, Bryan is the first artist to have two #1 country albums in 2014. "Crash My Party" spent its final week at #1 on the country chart in January. Aloe Blacc's third studio album, "Lift Your Spirit," debuts at #4. Blacc's "The Man, which borrows a key line from Elton John's "Your Song," is expected to crack the top 10 on the Hot 100 this week. Pharrell Williams's "G I R L" drops from #2 to #5 in its second week. The album's Oscar-nominated smash "Happy" this week pulls ahead of "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry featuring Juicy J to become the best-selling song so far in 2014. (So movies gave us both the best-selling album and best-selling song so far this year.) 311's 13thstudio album, "Stereolithic," debuts at #6. This isn't the first time that an album title has been a made-up word that includes "stereo." Beck's sophomore album, in 1994, was titled "Stereopathethic Soulmanure." Some of you may be wondering about The Alan Parsons Project's "Stereotomy" (#43 in 1986). That's an actual word. "Young Money: Rise Of An Empire" debuts at #7. It's the third Young Money compilation to crack the top 10. "We Are Young Money" and "Rich Gang" both peaked at #9. Pharrell Williams's aforementioned "Happy" is #1 on Hot Digital Songs for the fifth week, with sales of 364K. Will the smash log its fourth week at #1 on the Hot 100? You'll find out later today when we post my first of two Songs blogs. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 albums. The Top Five: The "Frozen" soundtrack rebounds from #3 to #1 in its 16th week (99K). This is its 14th week in the top 10 … Luke Bryan's "Spring Break 6...Like We Ain't Ever" debuts at #2 (74K). This is its 18th week in the top 10 … Sara Evans's "Slow Me Down" debuts at #9 (27K). It's her fourth top 10 album … Eric Church's "The Outsiders" dips from #9 to #10 in its fifth week (23K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time. Five albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Lea Michele's "Louder" dives from #4 to #32. Eli Young Band's "10,000 Towns" dives from #5 to #34. Beck's "Morning Phase" drops from #6 to #13. ScHoolboy Q's "Oxymoron" drops from #8 to #15. Ashanti's "Braveheart" dives from #10 to #42. Ledisi's sixth studio album, "The Truth," debuts at #14. It's her third album in a row to crack the top 15. "Turn Me Loose" reached #14 in August 2009. "Pieces Of Me" hit #8 in June 2011. Ledisi received a Grammy nomination as Best New Artist of 2007. She lost to Amy Winehouse. (It was a good year in that category. Taylor Swift, Paramore and Feist were the other nominees.) Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" dips from #19 to #20 in its 19th week. The album tops the 2 million mark in U.S. sales this week. It's Eminem's eighth consecutive album to top the 2 million mark. That's his entire output, which consists of seven studio albums and his 2004 hits compilation, "Curtain Call: Greatest Hits." Eminem's best-selling album is his 2000 blockbuster, "The Marshall Mathers LP" (10,834,000). His poorest-selling album (excluding the current release, which is far from over) is 2009's "Relapse" (2,363,000). The "Divergent" soundtrack debuts at #29. The movie, which stars Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet, opens Friday (March 21)… KXM's "KXM" debuts at #31 … Juanes's sixth studio album, "Loco De Amor," debuts at #36. It's the Colombian singer's third album to crack the top 40 … Bruno Mars's "Doo-Wops & Hooligans" holds at #60 in its 177th week. The album logs its 16th week at #1 on Top Catalog Albums. Bob Dylan's "30th Anniversary Concert Celebration" is #1 on Top Music Videos for the second week. Coming Attractions: As noted above, "Frozen" is expected to remain at #1 next week, with sales in the 200K range. Look for Foster The People's "Supermodel" to debut around #2, with sales in the 55K range. Four other albums are likely to get off to fast starts: YG's "My Krazy Life" (45K), Skrillex's "Recess" (45K), The Pretty Reckless's "Going To Hell" (30K) and Enrique Iglesias's "Sex + Love."

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/5944672/chart-moves-divergent-soundtrack-debuts-on-billboard-200-christian-musicChart Moves: 'Divergent' Soundtrack Debuts on Billboard 200, Christian Music Takes Over Dance Chart By Keith Caulfield | March 21, 2014 This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, the unstoppable "Frozen" soundtrack returned to No. 1 for a sixth nonconsecutive week, while Luke Bryan's latest "Spring Break" EP started at No. 2. Outside the top 10, there were a number of movers and shakers -- let's take a closer look at some of them: -- Eminem, "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" - No. 20 - The album sold another 13,000 copies in the week ending March 16, according to Nielsen SoundScan, bringing its cumulative total past 2 million (2.004 million to be exact). All of Eminem's albums have now each sold more than 2 million, led by the first "The Marshall Mathers LP," with 10.8 million. (He also happens to be one of only two acts with two 10-million sellers since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. The other: Backstreet Boys.) -- Soundtrack, "Divergent" - No. 29 - The latest young adult novel series-turned major motion picture event -- "Divergent" -- sees its companion soundtrack bow at No. 29 on the Billboard 200 with 10,000 sold in the week ending March 16, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The set, which featurs a slew of new music by Ellie Goulding, Snow Patrol, Kendrick Lamar, M83 and A$AP Rocky (among others), follows similar movie/soundtrack combos like "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games." The "Divergent" album arrived a little over a week before the film reached theaters, as the set bowed on March 11, while the movie opened in theaters on March 21. That could explain why the album starts a bit tepidly, as audiences have yet to connect the film to its music. If the movie drives home the importance of its music to memorable scenes in the film (as was done with "Twilight," for example), then we could see growth for the set. The first "Twilight" album debuted on Nov. 3, 2008, while its parent film didn't reach theaters until Nov. 21. That didn't hurt sales of the album though, as it launched with 165,000 at No. 1. It then sold in excess of 100,000 in each of its first eight weeks of release. As for "The Hunger Games," its first album bowed on March 20, 2012 -— just three days before the movie arrived. The film's debut helped carry the album to a 175,000 bow at No. 1. Like both "Twilight" and "Hunger Games," the "Divergent" film has planned sequels already in the works. A second film will arrive on March 15, 2015, while a third comes on March 18, 2016. -- Ellie Goulding, "Halycon" - No. 51 - The singer performed on NBC's "Today" on March 12, helping left this album's sales by 61 percent. In turn, it jumps from No. 103 to No. 51, selling 6,000 -- its best sales week since the week ending Dec. 29, 2013. -- Jesus Culture, "Reconstructed Volume 1" - No. 97 - A week after Hillsong United made news as the first Christian act to top the Dance/Electronic Albums chart, Jesus Culture places this set at No. 4 on that list. It also begins at No. 5 on Christian Albums and No. 97 on the Billboard 200. With Jesus Culture's arrival on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart, there are two Christian titles among the top five this week. Hillsong United's "The White Album (Remix Project)" slips from No. 1 to No. 5 in its second week. -- Ruben Studdard, "Unconditional Love" - No. 101 - Following publicity and promotion in the week ending March 16, the former "American Idol" winner zips back onto the chart with a 128 percent gain. During the week, he performed on TV's "Dr. Phil," and Centric premiered "Being: Ruben Studdard." -- Soundtrack, "Glee, the Music: Season Five - City of Angels" - No. 122 - The Fox TV series' 23rd charting album is also its lowest debut, as the EP starts at No. 122 with 3,000. From 2009 through 2011, all but one of the show's 14 entries hit the top 10. Since then, "Glee" has returned to the region only once. -- Of Monsters and Men, "My Head Is An Animal" - No. 129 - With another 3,000 sold, the rock act's album creeps past the 1 million sales mark. The set's total song sales (led by the No. 1 Triple A and Alternative hit "Little Talks") stands at 4.4 million.

The Frozen juggernaut should help things a tad on next week's chart.

The Frozen juggernaut should help things a tad on next week's chart. BUT... Next week goes up against Justin Timberlake's 968k week a year ago. More declines...

Oh yah, year-to-year declines will continue, no doubt. We don't want any new weekly SoundScan-era lows (though it probably will happen again at some point).

^I see what you are saying.
I always look at the year-to-year declines. 15% is bad enough. I don't want 20% next week.
