Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea's 'Problem' Trending Toward Huge First-Week SalesThe song appears headed for a striking top 10 debut on next week's Hot 100.While highlights of this week's Billboard Hot 100 chart will be revealed tomorrow (April 30), details are already emerging about next week's chart, on which Ariana Grande appears headed for a haughty top 10 debut with her new single, "Problem," featuring Iggy Azalea. Industry sources suggest that the song, which previews Grande's second album, due this summer, could sell more than 300,000 downloads in the tracking week ending Sunday, May 2, following its digital release yesterday (28). Such a start, regardless of any added airplay or streaming points, would likely translate to a top 10 debut on the sales/airplay/streaming-based Hot 100. We'll know where the song starts on the chart a week from tomorrow (May 7). (The April 28-May 2 Nielsen SoundScan sales tracking week will feed next week's chart data, encompassing the song's full opening retail week, thus, explaining why the track will likely make its heralded Hot 100 start then, not this week.) How notable is a debut sales frame of at least 300,000? Just 22 songs have arrived with that sum or better since SoundScan began tracking digital sales more than a decade ago. The last two such songs launched on the Nov. 16, 2013 Digital Songs chart: Eminem's "The Monster," featuring Rihanna (373,000) and One Direction's "Story of My Life" (305,000). (Flo Rida's "Right Round" holds the record with 636,000 first-week downloads sold [Feb. 28, 2009]). In addition to its sales, which would likely account for the majority of its Hot 100 chart points next week, "Problem" is already receiving early radio support. The song drew 293 first-day plays on 87 stations yesterday, according to Nielsen BDS. Pop Songs reporter KIIS Los Angeles led all stations with 17 first-day plays. Among all stations, "Problem" garnered 3.8 million in opening-day radio audience."Problem" was produced by and co-written with Max Martin (Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Backstreet Boys, among many others). Grande debuted the track live at the Radio Disney Music Awards, which aired on Disney Channel on Sunday (27). Grande soared onto the Billboard 200 at No. 1 in September with her debut album "Yours Truly." The set has sold 421,000 in the U.S. to date. Her introductory single, "The Way," featuring Mac Miller, reached No. 9 on the Hot 100 and has sold 2 million downloads. Azalea, meanwhile, blasted 37-18 on last week's Hot 100 with her breakthrough hit "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX. Azalea's album "The New Classic" is set to debut, possibly at No. 2, on this week's Billboard 200, details of which will be revealed on Billboard.com tomorrow. As we wait for Grande's grand Hot 100 entrance, also check Billboard.com tomorrow for highlights of this week's chart, where Pharrell Williams will seek a 10th week at No. 1 with "Happy." www.billboard.com/articles/news/6070313/ariana-grande-iggy-azaleas-problem-trending-toward-huge-first-week-sales

I love the song, but that performance blatantly shows that she needs to work on her charisma and presence, especially on stage. It's a bit ironic that for all the Mariah comparisons for her style, one of her weaknesses is the same as Mariah's early in her career regarding charisma in live performances.
There's definitely a lot of potential in her and I hope that she can continue to hone it and improve her technique. This isn't another Selena Gomez, who looks like she's doing her mandated community service hours. You can definitely see that she enjoys what she's doing but her novice status is showing because of how intimidated she seems by the big productions.

It seems pretty common for big voice singers to need work on their stage presence, and that's not just Mariah.

A duet with Justin Bieber will be on the album.

I think that Rihanna/Mariah release an album once of year thing could work for her. The only problem (no pun) would be her style.

I mean, it's cross-fanbase promo but given the recent controversy surrounding him I wouldn't release it as a single or anything. I personally would've opted out of it entirely, but w/e. I still like him as an artist and vocalist.

I hope her sophomore album can manage to go Gold, I think she has like 435K or so last time even with her top 10 hit...would be nice so early in her career to see her get bigger and increase on her numbers album at a time

It's gonna be awkward when he sounds girlier than her on the track.

Right? I mean he's grown so much (musically and vocally that is! ) Attitude wise he seems to have regressed, but I still love me some new Bieber music!!! EDIT: He doesn't even sound girly anymore and he was like what 13 then??? I mean seriously, does anyone remember when Cody Simpson started out???

I watched her performance on iHeart Radio Awards, the first time I actually saw her, and she's really cute but I couldn't shake the feeling that she looked more like a teenager at home dancing in front of the mirror than a professional singer.I know she's still young she'll probably still gain more confidence.

At least Cody Simpson WAS 13 when "Iyiyi" was released... In terms of music, I will be skeptical of this unless Bieber puts out a gem like BAAB, "Confident" or to a lesser extent "Take You".

The Bieber duet could work out well I think.
She's got a good further commercial potential imo if they have a second hit waiting in the background. Her debut, which was released after The Way (which also missed the top 10 on CHR) was dead, sold more than Demi and Selena's latest albums did with bigger hits.

Yeah, if it's a good song, I honestly don't care who sings it! (I even liked a Lil Wayne song once :() So I hope it will be good! :)

When I was 14 I was still on the soprano in choir (then less than half a year later I was on bass ) So I didn't judge him then... but I get your point. And I actually like a lot of Bieber's music (BAAB, ALAYLM, All That Matters, Baby, Right Here, and to a lesser extent Never Say Never and Boyfriend!) But I wouldn't call myself a Belieber just because he's now an awful person...

I think one way the Bieber duet could help her is that it could make her sound more contemporary. Courting the early-mid 00s sound will eventually prove to be a barrier more than anything else.

I think her childlike character and style is going to be a barrier more than anything.

I think her childlike character and style is going to be a barrier more than anything. I agree. A lot of people I mention her to believe she's a tween/teen and want to dismiss her music as bubblegum pop for that demo. Her image needs to mature sooner than later.

People are talking like she's been doing the music thing for a while now and is facing an image-related nose dive. Look at Miley and Bieber and how their careers panned out. She's got plenty of time to mature. This is only her second record lol.

In my country, Ariana is still described as a 'child star' or 'Nickeldeon girl', or something like that. She has to work on her image, indeed..

She's got plenty of time to mature. This is only her second record lol. But both of their music careers did start in their tweens and matured as they aged accordingly. This is Ariana's second album as a young adult.

I mean... her image so far this era has been pretty mature. What about this single cover screams "tween star" or "Nickelodeon"?

Right. It's not like her age matters much either right now. She's still young. Again, it's only her second record, and like Taylor said she's already showing signs of maturing.

She's trying to ditch the Quinceañera look, which comes off convincingly in that single cover, but utterly fails in motion. She looks child-like and as if she's playing dress up in her mother's clothes.
It's weird how she seemed and appeared older four years ago.

Loved the performance. What I love about this girl is that she hits the really high notes live. She doesn't let the backing track sing while mimicking like a lot of singers do.
Looks like she's starting to take our advice on that image change. And nobody said she has to dress like Miley Cyrus. LOL WTF. All we're saying is she needs to dress age appropriate. What 20 Y.O is wearing ribbons in her hair and rocking sun dresses like a 12 Y.O girl? At 20 Y.O you're old enough to fuck, act like it. <--- That was a little much, but y'all get the point. LOL
