www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.28066/title.hip-hop-album-sales-week-ending-3-23-2014Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 3/23/2014 by Jay Balfour posted March 26, 2014 YG's "My Krazy Life" debuts at #2, Pharrell Williams' "G I R L" drops to #6, and Rick Ross stays in the Top 10 at #7 this week. Following its release just over a week ago on March 18, YG’s My Krazy Life debut rose to the #2 spot this week on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Lower on the list, Pharrell Williams and Rick Ross both experienced single digit rankings drops from fifth and third to #6 and #7 respectively for their albums G I R L and Mastermind. After making his Top 200 debut last week at #4, Aloe Blacc’s album Lift Your Spirit dropped down to #19, a couple spots above John Legend’s Love In The Future which has remained on the charts for just shy of thirty weeks. Meanwhile, ScHoolboy Q’s fourth week on the list finds him dropping from #15 last week to #29 with his Oxymoron album this week. YG’s My Krazy Life Debuts At #2 Selling just over 60,000 units in its first week on shelves, YG’s My Krazy Life displaced Pharrell Williams at the #2 spot. The Def Jam debut, which features production from DJ Mustard and a feature from Kendrick Lamar, is YG’s first time on the charts. Earlier this week, the rapper talked about the release in an interview with Hot 97, saying “it’s easy to make a classic album.” “Yeah, it just take time,” YG said. “I feel like if you give a ***I'M RACIST*** stories and all that on your album and it’s really like—no matter if it blow. Like Jay Z first album’s a classic, but it didn’t sell a lot…If you giving stories and it’s realistic like people feel it. And like ‘He ain’t lying.’ That’s a classic.” While on the show, YG also credited Jeezy for giving him artistic freedom on the album. “As far as the music, he let me do my thing. You feel me? Like he come in. He give me advice," YG said. "But when I link up with him it was never a problem with the music…Just making the right moves and connecting with the right person. Cause I was on the West Coast. It was hard. It was hard for me on this side and the South. But then when I link up with Jeezy we start working. We did the mixtape, the ‘My ***I'M RACIST***’ record. s**t started clicking. And then he was at the label. Doing his stuff and going hard for me.” Pharrell Williams’ G I R L Falls To #6 & Rick Ross’ Mastermind Drops To #7 During his third week on the charts, Pharrell Williams’ second studio album, G I R L, sold just shy of 35,000 units, a nearly 25 percent drop from last week, and fell one spot to #6. To date, Williams has sold 192,000 copies of the record, which received a 3.5 out of a possible 5 in HipHopDX’s recent review. “While G I R L is too surface-level at times, it hits the target it’s aimed for,” DX wrote. “Pharrell wants summertime airplay, and any of these songs could survive on the radio. It’s also a nice tribute to feminine vigor, adding another notch to Pharrell’s ever-growing list of achievements. He has plenty to be happy about these days.” Directly beneath the “Happy” star, Rick Ross sold 27,000 copies of his Mastermind album, pushing him over the quarter-million sales mark after three weeks on the list. Ross, who sold nearly 50,000 albums last week, debuted at #1 on the charts for the fifth time in his career with Mastermind, previous instances include his God Forgives, I Don’t album with his 2010 release Teflon Don as his only major-label release to not reach the top spot on the charts. Aloe Blacc’s Lift Your Spirit Lands At #19 & Eminem’s Marshall Mathers LP 2 At #27 Experiencing a double-digits ranking drop from last week, Emanon emcee Aloe Blacc’s Lift Your Spirit fell from the fourth spot to #19 in its second week on the chart. Blacc’s Lift Your Spirit sold a little less than 15,000 copies this week, a 67 percent drop from last week’s numbers, and has now totaled over 60,000 albums sold. Eminem, who passed the two million albums sold mark last week for his Marshall Mathers LP sequel, sold nearly 13,000 copies of MMLP2 this week, earning him his twentieth week on the charts for this particular album. Elsewhere, Em’s Eminem Show clocked enough sales at 3,226 sold this week alone to crack into the Top 200 at #116. ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron At #29 & Young Money’s Rise Of An Empire Drops To #36 After debuting as the most streamed album of the year on Spotify earlier this month, ScHoolboy Q’s major label debut, Oxymoron, fell from the #15 spot last week to #29 this week. Having sold 12,224 copies of the record this week, Q’s total numbers inched closer to the 200,000 mark. ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron album received a 3.5 out of 5 in its recent HipHopDX review. "In many ways, Oxymoron delivers exactly as advertised," HipHopDX says in its album review. "It’s an ominous project that also needs a few radio reaches to provide ScHoolboy Q a platform to achieve mainstream success.” At the same time, the Young Money compilation Rise Of An Empire fell nearly thirty spots from its debut at #7 to its current standing at #36. The album, which experienced a 66 percent drop in sales in that time period, sold 10,569 copies this week after selling 31,490 copies in its first week. Freddie Gibbs & Madlib Enter The Charts At #39 With Pinata With 9,299 albums sold in its first week on shelves, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib debuted on the charts at #39 this week for their album Pinata. The album, which received HipHopDX’s highest rating of the year thus far with a 4.5 out of 5, was released on the producer’s Madlib Invazion label and features artists like Scarface, Raekwon, Danny Brown, and more. “As Gangster Rap, Piñata is free of conceptual pretense; it’s a slice more than a thesis,” HipHopDX wrote. “It’s also a new benchmark for Gibbs and may end up as a career calling card. If nothing else, it quickly sounds like one of the year’s best.” Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 3/23/2014 #2. YG - My Krazy Life - 61,000 (61,000) #6. www.billboard.com/articles/news/6006529/frozen-earns-its-biggest-sales-week-yet-tops-billboard-200-a-seventh-time'Frozen' Earns Its Biggest Sales Week Yet, Tops Billboard 200 a Seventh Time By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | March 26, 2014 11:00 AM EDT Thanks to the March 18 release of "Frozen" on DVD and Blu-ray, its soundtrack has scored its best sales week yet. The album spends a seventh week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 202,000 copies in the week ending March 23 (up 104 percent), according to Nielsen SoundScan. That easily trumps its previous high-water mark, when it shifted 165,000 in the week ending Jan. 5. A week ago, it was No. 1 with 99,000 copies sold. The "Frozen" album's sales are red hot, owed to buzz generated by the fast-selling home video version of the film. Disney said that 3.2 million units of the DVD and Blu-ray were sold during its first day of release. Idina Menzel, Unfrozen: The 'Frozen' Star Covers BillboardREAD THE COVER STORY OR SUBSCRIBE TO BILLBOARD HERE It's unusual for an album to log its best sales week so far into its chart life. "Frozen," which was released Nov. 26, 2013, is currently in its 17th week on the chart. Generally, albums start big and then taper off as the weeks tick by. For example, the last album that was as old as "Frozen" to sell more than 200,000 in a week was Adele's "21," a little over two years ago. In the wake of the 2012 Grammy Awards — where Adele performed and won multiple trophies — "21" sold 730,000 copies (in the week ending Feb. 19). The set had debuted at No. 1 a year earlier, shifting 352,000 copies in the week endingFeb. 27, 2011. Though "Frozen" just reached DVD and Blu-ray, it's also still in movie theaters. It ranked as the No. 13 highest-grossing film at the U.S. and Canada box office during the March 21-23 weekend (according to Box Office Mojo). Through March 23, it has earned $397 million — the third-highest-grossing film of 2013. With the soundtrack's additional 202,000 sold, its total sales rise to 1.6 million. Its breakout hit single, Idina Menzel's "Let It Go," recently reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Academy Award for best original song. While "Frozen" continues to be all the rage at the top of the chart, the top 10 also welcomes six new entries. Rapper YG leads the debut-parade with "My Krazy Life," starting at No. 2 with 61,000 sold. It's the first studio album for the artist, who arrived on the Billboard charts in 2010 with the single "Toot It and Boot It." It reached No. 67 on the Billboard Hot 100. He later followed it up with "My Hitta" in 2013 (No. 19 peak on the Hot 100 and No. 5 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs) and his current hit, "Who Do You Love." The latter has reached the top 20 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally and No. 78 on the Hot 100. Rock trio Foster The People struts onto the Billboard 200 with its second album, "Supermodel," bowing at No. 3 with 54,000. It follows the trio's first album, "Torches," which debuted and peaked at No. 8 in 2011. It has gone on to sell 1 million copies. Foster The People's latest single, "Coming of Age," recently peaked at No. 4 on the Alternative Songs chart. It has yet to reach the Billboard Hot 100, where the group's breakthrough hit "Pumped Up Kicks" climbed to No. 3. EDM superstar Skrillex logs his best week ever as his first full-length album, "Recess," debuts at No. 4 with 47,000. It's his first top 10 album, surpassing the No. 14 peak of the EP "Bangarang" in January 2012. Eighty-seven percent of "Recess'" first-week sales were from downloads. It only sold 6,000 physical copies. Rock band The Pretty Reckless also scores its biggest week yet, as its second album, "Going to Hell," bows at No. 5 with 35,000. The group, fronted by singer/actress Taylor Momsen, had previously gone as high as No. 65 with 2011's "Light Me Up," selling 9,000 in its first week. The new album was led by the hit single "Heaven Knows," which is spending its third week at No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart. Pharrell Williams' "G I R L" dips 5-6 with 34,000 (down 24 percent), and Rick Ross' "Mastermind" slides 3-7 with 27,000 (down 44 percent). Enrique Iglesias nabs his third top 10 album with "Sex and Love" as it enters at No. 8 with 24,000. It follows his previous top 10s "Euphoria" (No. 10 in 2010) and "Escape" (No. 2 in 2001). Lorde's "Pure Heroine" falls one rung to No. 9 with nearly 24,000 (down 13 percent). Taking Back Sunday closes out the top 10 with its latest, "Happiness Is," bowing at No. 10 with 22,000. It's the fourth top 10 album for the rock act, and first since 2009's "New Again" hit No. 7. Over on the Digital Songs chart, Pharrell's "Happy" continues to rule the list, selling 370,000 downloads (up 2 percent). John Legend's "All of Me" and Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty" (featuring 2 Chainz) are both non-movers at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. They sold 224,000 (up 4 percent) and 188,000 (down 5 percent). Menzel's "Let It Go" surges 5-4 with a 37-percent gain to 167,000. Katy Perry's "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J, slips 4-5 with 150,000 (down 9 percent). Aloe Blacc's "The Man" rises 8-6 with 126,000 (up 30 percent). During the tracking week, Blacc appeared on NBC's "The Voice" and ABC's "Good Morning America." The Chainsmokers' "#SELFIE" descends a slot to No. 7 with 101,000 (down 9 percent), and Bastille's "Pompeii" falls 7-8 with 98,000 (down 7 percent). DJ Snake & Lil Jon's "Turn Down for What" is steady at No. 9 with 89,000 (up 6 percent). Florida Georgia Line snares its second top 10 hit on the Digital Songs chart, as "This Is How We Roll" (featuring Luke Bryan) climbs 12-10 with 78,000 (down 2 percent). It follows last year's No. 2 hit "Cruise." Overall album sales during this past chart week (ending March 23) totaled 4.7 million units, up 3 percent compared with the sum last week (4.6 million) and down 22 percent compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (6.1 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 57.1 million, down 15 percent compared with the same total at this pointlast year (67.5 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 21.6 million downloads, down 1 percent compared with last week(21.8 million) and down 13 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (24.8 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 290.5 million, down 11 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (328.2 million). Next week's Billboard 200competes with the same week in 2013 when: Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" held at No. 1 with 318,000 (down 67 percent) after debuting in the previous frame with 968,000. Lil Wayne's "I Am Not a Human Being II" started at No. 2 with 217,000.

Well, I was thinking sales may drop a bit this week, and was using 2m as a safe range. :) I'd think 2.5m will be easy, too.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/music-news/chart-watch-frozen-dvd-boosts-soundtrack-191629911.htmlChart Watch: “Frozen” DVD Boosts Soundtrack By Paul Grein, Yahoo Music The "Frozen" soundtrack sold 202K copies this past week, more than double last week's tally of 99K. The surge is linked to the release of the movie's DVD and Blu-ray, which sold a combined 3.2 million copies in their first day of release last Tuesday (March 19). This spurt for the soundtrack surpasses the gains posted by "The Lion King" soundtrack following the release of the VHS and Laserdisc in March 1995 and the "Twilight" soundtrack following the release of the DVD in March 2009. The "Frozen" soundtrack has sold 1,633,000 copies. Nearly half of those copies (781K) have been sold digitally, which makes "Frozen" the best-selling soundtrack in digital history. It this week pushes ahead of "Pitch Perfect," which has sold 760K digital copies. "Twilight" is in third place, with sales of 742K digital copies. "Frozen" tops The Billboard 200 with ease: It sold more copies than all the other albums in the top five combined. This is its seventh week at #1. "Frozen" sold 56K digital copies this week, which puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums for the fifth week. That's the longest run at #1 on the digital sales chart since Mumford & Sons' "Babel" had five weeks on top in 2012-2013. It's the longest run atop this chart for a soundtrack since "Juno" had six weeks on top in 2007-2008. "Frozen" is #1 on Top Soundtracks for the 17th week. The movie was in the top 15 at the box-office for the 17th weekend, but it slipped out of the top 10. YG's first studio album, "My Krazy Life," debuts at #2. The rapper (real name: Keenon Jackson) was born in Compton, Calif. Numerous other artists who were born in Compton have landed top 10 albums, including Coolio, DQ Quik, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, The Game, Kendrick Lamar, MC Eiht, Tyga and one name you might not have expected: Krist Novoselic of Nirvana. I guess you could say they all came "Straight Outta Compton," to borrow the title of N.W.A.'s 1991 album, a gangsta rap classic. Foster The People's sophomore album, "Supermodel," debuts at #3. This is the group's second top 10 album. "Torches" hit #8 in 2011, boosted by the megahit "Pumped Up Kicks." That album topped the 1 million mark a few weeks ago. Skrillex's "Recess" debuts at #4. This is his first full-length album following a long string of EPs. It's also his first title to crack the top 10. Skrillex is a two-time winner of the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronica Album (for the EPs "Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites" and "Bangarang"). If he wins again for "Recess," he'll become the first three-time winner in the category's history, pulling ahead of The Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk, who have each won twice. The Pretty Reckless's second full-length album, "Going To Hell," debuts at #5. This is the group's first top 10 album. "Gossip Girl" star Taylor Momsen fronts the New York-based alternative metal band. (A couple of notes: The Pretty Reckless is the second "Pretty" act to land a top five album, following Pretty Ricky. And Alice Cooper had a hit album with a similar title in 1976: "Alice Cooper Goes To Hell.") Enrique Iglesias's "SEX AND LOVE" debuts at #8. It's his second bilingual album, following "Euphoria" (#10 in 2010). Iglesias has had one other top 10 album: the English-language "Escape," which hit #2 in 2001. (Iglesias' father, Julio Iglesias, reached the top 10 with just one album: 1984's "1100 Bel Air Place.") The title of the new album is similar to fellow Latin pop star Ricky Martin's "Musica + Almo+ Sexo" (English translation: Music + Soul + Sex), which reached #3 in 2011. Pharrell Williams's "Happy" is #1 on Hot Digital Songs for the sixth week, with sales of 370K. Will the smash log its fifth week at #1 on the Hot 100? You'll find out later today when we post my first of two Songs blogs. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 albums. The Top Five: The "Frozen" soundtrack holds at #1 in its 17th week (202K). Born To Die by Lana del Rey has now sold 1 million copies. MILLION SELLERS CLUB www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6022008/lana-del-reys-born-to-die-crosses-1-million-copies-soldLana Del Rey's 'Born To Die' Crosses 1 Million Copies SoldBy Keith Caulfield, L.A. | March 26, 2014 Lana Del Rey's major label debut album "Born To Die" has sold its 1 millionth copy in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The set, released by Polydor/Interscope Records on Jan. 31, 2012, sold another 5,000 copies in the week ending March 23. That brings its cumulative sales total to 1,001,000 million. The album debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, and has never left the tally since its arrival. On the newest chart, dated April 5, it falls from No. 59 to No. 76 in its 112th week on the list. "Born To Die" crosses the million sales mark largely without major support from radio, although one of its songs became a hit in remixed form. On the Radio Songs chart (which ranks the most popular songs across all formats of radio), Del Rey charted just one song: the No. 6-peaking "Summertime Sadness." But, that track charted largely due to stations playing its uptempo dance remix by producer Cedric Gervais (a remix which is not available on the "Born To Die" album). On the other hand, Del Rey is a big draw on YouTube, Vevo and SoundCloud. She has 387 million views to her official YouTube account and just over 1 million subscribers, while her Vevo account has 470 million views and 2.1 million subscribers. Her SoundCloud account has logged 22.6 million plays according to Next Big Sound. Del Rey is also a significant seller when it comes to individual songs. Her total download sales stand at 6.7 million, with 2.2 million of that coming from "Summertime Sadness." She's also sold 1 million downloads of "Young and Beautiful," from "The Great Gatsby" soundtrack. ("Young" is another track, like the dance remix of "Summertime," that is unavailable on a Del Rey album.) Following the release of "Born To Die," Del Rey issued the EP "Paradise" in November of 2012. She also reissued the "Born To Die" album, augmented with the EP. The stand-alone "Paradise" EP debuted and peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200, and has sold 327,000. Next up for Del Rey is a U.S. tour that begins on April 11 in Las Vegas. She's also preparing the release of her forthcoming album, "Ultraviolence," which is due out later this year.

183 98 4 SATELLITE FLIGHT: The journey to Mother Moon - Kid Cudi - Republic Talk about tumbling off the charts. This is indeed surprising because I expected it to sell at least 250k. Oh well... It's an iTunes only release. No single. No video. It's a very unconventional release.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/chart-alert/6029158/chart-moves-kylie-minogue-and-george-michael-debut-the-war-onChart Moves: Kylie Minogue and George Michael Debut, the War On Drugs' 'Dream' Arrives By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | March 28, 2014 This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, the "Frozen" soundtrack sat atop the list for a seventh nonconsecutive week, selling 202,000 copies in the week ending March 23, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That's the album's biggest sales week yet, owed to the promotion and publicity tied to the movie's release on DVD and blu-ray on March 18. Outside the top 10, there were a number of movers and shakers -- let's take a closer look at some of them: -- The War On Drugs, "Lost In the Dream" - No. 26 - The rock band's third studio set becomes its first to chart on the Billboard 200, as it arrives at No. 26 with 14,000 sold. The act previously charted on both the Heatseekers Albums and Independent Albums chart with its second set, 2011's "Slave Ambient." The new album's first-week sales was driven largely by downloads (49 percent) and vinyl LPs (26 percent). -- Kylie Minogue, "Kiss Me Once" - No. 31 - The pop princess returns with her latest studio album, "Kiss Me Once," debuting at No. 31 with 12,000 sold. It's her first studio effort after parting ways with her longtime manager Terry Blamey and signing with Roc Nation management. It's also her first release with Warner Bros. Records, after her label, Parlophone, was acquired by Warner Music Group last year. Minogue's previous studio album, 2010's "Aphrodite," debuted and peaked at No. 19 with 18,000 sold in its first week. -- St. Paul & the Broken Bones, "Half the City" - No. 56 - A 7-minute long feature on NPR's Morning Edition (March 20) prompts a whopping 365% gain for the album, as it re-enters at No. 56 with 6,000 sold. The band, fronted by Paul Janeway, also collects it best sales week and chart position yet, surpassing the album's 5,000 debut frame at No. 62 back in February. -- George Michael, "Symphonica" - No. 60 - The veteran pop star collects his tenth charting album, as his first release for Island Records bows at No. 60 with 6,000 sold. The live album is also the final work produced by the late Phil Ramone, who died on March 30, 2013. The set mostly consists of covers other artist's work, but does include a couple of familiar Michael tunes (like "One More Try"). Michael last charted in 2008, when two different versions of his greatest hits album "TwentyFive" charted. -- Matt Maher, "And the People Said Amen" - No. 88 - Maher's album earns the chart's largest positional increase this week (up 77 spots), thanks to sale pricing at Family Christian stores. The album, discounted to $5, zooms from No. 165 to No. 88, selling 4,000 copies (up 66 percent). -- Juanes, "Loco de Amor" - No. 150 - The largest fall -- by position -- this week is owned by the Latin star's latest release. It tumbles 114 rungs from No. 36 to No. 150 (3,000 sold; down 69 percent). -- Elvis Presley, "Elvis: Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis" - No. 185 - The King of Rock & Roll's latest release becomes his 130th charting title, as it debuts at No. 185 with a little over 2,000 sold. It extends his record for the most appearances in the chart's history. Frank Sinatra ranks second with 82 entries.
