Looks like this got sent to pop this afternoon too. It's his lead solo single from upcoming debut full-length In The Lonely Hour.

There are elements of the song that I like, but, in general, it's a little boring.

Shouldn't they wait until his two other songs on the radio peak first...

Shouldn't they wait until his two other songs on the radio peak first... It doesn't even go for AAA adds until mid-April, so it'll probably take some time to get moving here too (which is fine, considering his album isn't out until mid-June).

The US isn't getting "Money On My Mind" ?! MADNESS. Especially since MTV Hits has been playing that video for weeks.

Yes! 2014 is getting alot better! Thing is I would hate to see Latch die because of this release. I would wait a month or two to release it imo.

They better wait on the release for this. They would be extremely dumb if they were to release this while "Latch" and "La La La" aren't done yet. This is better than "Money On My Mind" imo, that song gets really annoying.

This song is quite boring, but stack it next to "Say Something," "Let Her Go," or "When I Was Your Man" and it's suddenly oozing personality. Boring songs of the such either become huge if they go "viral" somehow or otherwise stay under the radar until they're forgotten altogether. He's talented and has both hype and promo behind him, so anything can happen really.
I don't see this affecting "La La La" (whose chart and radio explosion seems imminent at this point) or "Latch" (which unfortunately and erroneously seems to be on life support) all too much. At the end of the day, neither of those songs are actually Sam's. He was just handed the coveted SNL musical guest slot this weekend so no hate for rushing something to plug his OWN album.

This is a great song. I just wish it didn't have that choir chorus...

As much as I love this, Nirvana would have been a better choice. This, while being incredible in its own right, I can't see connecting with the GP. The choir is gonna hold it back. Just send Nirvana out and service the Harry Fraud Remix to Urban please.

Just send Nirvana out and service the Harry Fraud Remix to Urban please. I think he's the type of artist that they don't know how to market. He's essentially a pop artist, but not the Katy Perry or Jason Derulo paint-by-numbers type, but more of an organic pop artist. He leans urban in some ways; he leans adult alternative/Hot AC in other ways. This cross-format appeal is a blessing if you're established but kind of a curse if you're brand new and don't have that one "Royals" type song that equally covers all of the bases. "Money On My Mind" would appeal most to Pop and Rhythmic. "Nirvana" would have been good for Urban AC with a small shot at some Pop play. "Stay With Me" covers the adult alternative and pop bases, which I guess is the demographic that downloads from iTunes the most. It makes sense... but if this DOES break, it's going to be a bit more difficult to switch gears and market his R&B side afterwards.

Capitol Records is really trying to make Sam Smith happen. This and "La La La" are the top songs under new releases on iTunes right now on the front page.

Frankly i don't understand why slow songs are always being labeled as boring. Frankly i find infinitely more boring the tons of copycat dance songs that we get in recent years.
It's a good song and could do well on AAA and Hot AC before crossing to pop

He did this on SNL last night. Not sure what the second song was. I fell asleep. :(

It's just so basic in contrast to his prior output. I am glad to see it doing well following SNL, though. I think it would be much better without the choir.

I don't mind the choir. I think it could make the track stand out.

Great to hear him putting out something like Stay with Me cause Money on My Mind really didn't showcase his potential at all. Seriously keen for the album.

Damn, this is already blowing up in the US? Guess it'll be a hit afterall. Good news but I just hope he doesn't become typecasted as a "soulful" version of Ed Sheeran as a result.

Well he is called the male version of Adele. His references (i heard him say it in an interview) are Elton John and George Michael. And that combination could work (well in UK is working already). It's good for him he make himself known collaborating in dance tracks because his voice (he has a great and very distinctive voice) seems made for ballads

Not to begrudge him success, but I'll be upset if he takes attention away from Hozier, who is the soulful singer much more deserving of US attention. Hozier's first US single is smashing AAA right now, and he has a headlining US tour this May.
