www.billboard.com/articles/news/6032586/frozen-rules-billboard-200-most-weeks-at-no-1-since-adele-21'Frozen' Rules With Most Weeks At No. 1 Since Adele's '21' By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | April 02, 2014 11:00 AM EDT The hit soundtrack spends an eight week atop the Billboard 200; Plus, new releases from Shakira and Johnny Cash round out the top three As forecast last week, the soundtrack to Disney's "Frozen" scores an eighth week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking the longest run atop the list since Adele's "21" closed out a 24-week run at No. 1 in 2012. "Frozen" sold another 161,000 copies in the week ending March 30, according to Nielsen SoundScan — down 20 percent compared with the week previous. Since SoundScan — and its point-of-sale data — began powering the Billboard 200 in 1991, "Frozen" is just the 20th album to spend at least eight weeks at No. 1. In that span of time, "21" has ruled the longest, followed by Whitney Houston's "The Bodyguard" soundtrack (with 20 weeks at No. 1) and Garth Brooks' "Ropin' the Wind" (with 18). Adele's mega-selling "21" (10.9 million and counting) spent its first week at No. 1 on the chart dated March 12, 2011, and its 24th week in the penthouse over a year later, on June 23, 2012. "Frozen" has now sold 1.8 million copies, with 1.5 million of those sold in 2014. It's by far the biggest-selling album of this year. The No. 2 seller is Beyonce's self-titled album, having sold 604,000 in 2014 (out of its 1.9 million total, as it was released in 2013). At No. 2 on the latest Billboard 200 is Shakira with her own self-titled set, starting with 84,000 sold. It’s her highest-charting album ever, surpassing the No. 3 peak of 2001's "Laundry Service." On the other hand, "Shakira" notches her lowest sales start of all her English-language studio albums. It dips below the bow of 2009's "She Wolf," which launched at No. 15 with 89,000 in the thick of the Christmas shopping season. Johnny Cash is up next, bowing at No. 3 with "Out Among the Stars." The album — consisting of newly discovered material recorded in the early 1980s — debuts with 54,000 sold, marking his sixth top 10 album. "Out Among the Stars" also enters at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart, his first leader since 2006's "American V: A Hundred Highways" also opened at No. 1. "Out Among the Stars" is the highest-debuting posthumous release (Cash died in 2003) since Jimi Hendrix's "People, Hell and Angels" debuted at No. 2 on the chart dated March 23, 2013. It sold 72,000 copies in its first week. Rock band Memphis May Fire scores its biggest week ever, as its latest release, "Unconditional," opens at No. 4 with 27,000. It easily trumps the act's previous best frame, when "Challenger" started at No. 16 with 18,000 in 2012. "Unconditional" also gives Memphis May Fire's record label, Rise Records, its second top 10 this year. It follows Of Mice & Men's "Restoring Force," which debuted and peaked at No. 4. Pharrell Williams' "G I R L" rises one notch to No. 5, selling 25,000 (though it’s down 26 percent). Its cumulative sales now stand at 217,000. Erica Campbell — one-half of the sister duo Mary Mary — debuts her first solo album, "Help," at No. 6 with 23,000. It also jumps to No. 1 on the Gospel Albums chart. Mary Mary has visited the top 10 on the Billboard 200 three times, with a self-titled album in 2005 (peaking at No. 8), "The Sound" (No. 7, 2007) and "Something Big" (No. 10, 2011). YG's "My Krazy Life" tumbles 2-7 in its second week, selling nearly 23,000 (down 62 percent). Pop Shop Podcast: Lana Del Rey, 'G.U.Y.' Video Barry Manilow collects his 14th top 10 album as "Night Songs" debuts at No. 8 with 22,000. Of that sum, 94 percent were sold through the Internet. The album was not available as a download. Manilow achieved his first seven top 10 albums between 1975 and 1979. He didn't return to the region until 2002's greatest-hits set "Ultimate Manilow" reached No. 3. One year after My Chemical Romance announced its breakup, the band's first greatest-hits compilation arrives. "May Death Never Stop You" starts at No. 9 with 20,000 sold. The 19-track set includes four previously unreleased cuts, including "Fake Your Death." The song peaked at No. 47 on Hot Rock Songs in March. Lorde's "Pure Heroine" descends 9-10 on the Billboard 200 with almost 20,000 (down 15 percent). Over on the Digital Songs chart, Pharrell's "Happy" spends a seventh week at No. 1, selling 321,000 (down 14 percent). John Legend's "All of Me" remains at No. 2 with 226,000 (though it’s up 1 percent), and Idina Menzel's "Let It Go" continues to rise, up one spot to No. 3 (164,000; down 2 percent). Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty," featuring 2 Chainz, falls 3-4 with 161,000 (down 14 percent); Katy Perry's "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J, is steady at No. 5 with 138,000 (down 8 percent); and Aloe Blacc's "The Man" is stationary at No. 6 with 124,000 (down 2 percent). DJ Snake & Lil Jon's "Turn Down for What" climbs two positions to No. 7 with 96,000 (up 9 percent), and Bastille's "Pompeii" holds steady at No. 8 with 93,000 (down 5 percent). The Chainsmokers' "#SELFIE" dips 7-9 with 92,000 (down 9 percent), while Florida Georgia Line's "This Is How We Roll," featuring Luke Bryan," remains at No. 10 for another week, with 77,000 (down 1 percent). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending March 30) totaled 4.67 million units, down 1 percent compared with the sum last week (4.71 million) and down 28 percent compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (6.5 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 61.7 million, down 17 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (74 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 21.5 million downloads, down 1 percent compared with last week(21.6 million) and down 24 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (28.3 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 312 million, down 12 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (356.5 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2013 when: Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience" spent a third straight week at No. 1, selling 139,000 (down 56 percent). The Band Perry's "Pioneer" was the chart's highest debut, arriving at No. 2 with 129,000.

^And down 17% in overall sales compared to 2013...
April's release schedule is kind of weak except for 5 Seconds of Summer.
Sales should get exciting in May!

A 28% drop from the same week last year- yikes. But, Easter fell on March 31 last year, so that explains it- for those who give gifts on Easter.

www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.28149/title.hip-hop-album-sales-week-ending-3-30-2014Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 3/30/2014 by Danielle Harling posted April 02, 2014 Pharrell Williams' "G I R L" rises to #5, YG's "My Krazy Life" drops to #7, and Rick Ross' "Mastermind" falls out of the Top 10. Following appearances by three Hip Hop/R&B albums on last weeks’ Billboard 200 chart, Pharrell Williams’ G I R L and YG’s My Krazy Life were the only two Hip Hop/R&B projects in the Top 10 on the chart this week. Rick Ross’ Mastermind, an album executive produced by Puff Daddy, dropped out of the Top 10 to the #11 spot, while ScHoolboy Q’s third studio album, Oxymoron, dropped even further this week. Q’s album found itself at the #33 spot on this week’s Billboard 200 chart. And with its third week on the chart, Aloe Blacc’s Lift Your Spirit remains at the #19 spot with a little over 14,000 copies sold this week. Pharrell Williams’ G I R L Climbs To #5 After falling to the #6 spot following the entrance of Compton rapper YG’s album, My Krazy Life, Pharrell’s G I R L has once again found itself in a Top 5 position on the Billboard 200 chart. The self-produced album from Pharrell sold 25,000 copies this week and managed to work its way to the #5 spot despite selling nearly 9,000 less copies than last week. With singles including “Happy” and “Marilyn Monroe,” G I R L is described in a HipHopDX review as boasting songs that are “very safe, barely scratching the surface of anything deep, personal or revealing.” The album received a 3.5 out of 5 in a HipHopDX review posted in early March. YG’s My Krazy Life Falls To #7 Following a debut at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart last week with 61,000 copies solid in its first week, YG’s My Krazy Life has fallen to the #7 spot. With 23,000 copies sold this week, YG’s album moved nearly a third of what it sold during its first week of release. Described by DJ Mustard as this generation’s The Chronic, My Krazy Life received a 3 out of 5 rating in its HipHopDX review and was referred to as “a well sequenced and cohesive package.” The album serves as YG’s debut studio album and includes guest appearances from a number of Hip Hop notables including Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and CTE World founder Jeezy. Aloe Blacc Maintains #19 Spot, Rick Ross Falls Out Of The Top 10 With its fourth week on the Billboard 200 chart, Rick Ross’ Mastermind has fallen out of the Top 10 for the first time. The album sold 19,000 copies this week and as a result dropped to #11 on the chart. Last week, Mastermind clenched the #7 spot on the Billboard 200, a spot that’s now taken by YG’s My Krazy Life. In total, Rick Ross’ sixth studio album has sold approximately 275,000 copies. One artist who managed to maintain their positioning on the Billboard 200 chart was Emanon wordsmith Aloe Blacc with his album, Lift Your Spirit. The rapper fell to the #19 spot on the chart last week and remains at #19 with 14,000 copies of Lift Your Spirit sold this week. A HipHopDX review from last month, in which the album received a 3 out of 5 rating states that Aloe Blacc’s Lift Your Spirit “showcases a wide range of influences,” but also “feels impersonal at times.” Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 3/30/2014 #5. Pharrell Williams – G I R L – 25,000 (217,000) #7. YG – My Krazy Life – 23,000 (84,000) #11. Rick Ross – Mastermind – 19,000 (275,000) #14. Beyoncé- Beyoncé – 16,000 (1,905,000) #19. music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-death-doesn-t-slow-johnny-cash-210001517.html?bcmt=comments-postboxChart Watch: Death Doesn’t Slow Johnny Cash By Paul Grein, Chart Watch Johnny Cash's "Out Among The Stars" enters The Billboard 200 at #3, just behind the "Frozen" soundtrack and Shakira's "Shakira." Here's the odd part: The country legend has amassed twice as many top 10 albums since he died in September 2003 than he did while he was alive. This is Cash's fourth posthumous album to reach the top 10. It follows "The Legend Of Johnny Cash" (#5 in 2005), "American V: A Hundred Highways" (#1 in 2006) and "American VI: Ain’t No Grave" (#3 in 2010). During Cash’s lifetime, he made the top 10 with just two albums: "Johnny Cash At San Quentin" (#1 in 1969) and "Hello, I’m Johnny Cash" (#8 in 1970). Cash isn’t the first music star to have more top 10 albums after he died than he did in his lifetime. But most of the other stars of whom this is true died years before their time. 2Pac, for example, had just two top 10 albums during his lifetime, and has had nine since he was shot to death in September 1996. As part of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain had two top 10 albums during his lifetime and three since he took his own life in April 1994. Several other stars never reached the top 10 during their lifetimes, but scored repeatedly after they died. These include Jim Croce and The Notorious B.I.G., each of whom had four top 10 albums posthumously, and Selena, who had two. How to explain this? Why is Cash, who died at 71 of diabetes, the only artist who led a full life in this discussion? Until the advent of Nielsen/SoundScan in 1991, country music was under-represented on the Billboard album chart. If Nielsen/SoundScan had been around since 1958, when Cash first charted, he would probably have had several more top 10 albums during his lifetime. "Out Among The Stars" enters Top Country Albums at #1, displacing Eric Church's "The Outsiders." It's Cash's 10th #1 country album; his first since "American V: A Hundred Highways." Cash's compilation "Ring Of Fire (The Best Of Johnny Cash)" was #1 the week the chart was introduced in January 1964, so Cash's span of #1 country albums extends from the very first chart to the very latest. You can't beat that. The "Frozen" soundtrack is #1 for the eighth week. This puts it in fourth place among all albums in the last 10 years. Adele's "21" leads in that time frame, with 24 weeks on top. Taylor Swift's "Fearless" is in second place, with 11 weeks. Usher's "Confessions" is in third place, with nine weeks. "21" and "Fearless" both won Grammys as Album of the Year. "Confessions" was nominated, but lost to Ray Charles's "Genius Loves Company." Will "Frozen" receive an Album of the Year nom in December? Place your bets. "Frozen" sold 58K digital copies this week, which puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums for the sixth week. That's the longest run at #1 on the digital sales chart since Adele's "21" had 16 weeks on top in 2011-2012. "Frozen" this week ties "Juno" for the longest run at #1 by a soundtrack in the history of the chart (which dates back to 2004). "Frozen" is #1 on Top Soundtracks for the 18th week. The movie was in the top 20 at the box-office for the 18th weekend. Shakira's "Shakira" debuts at #2. This is Shakira's highest-charting album to date. It tops "Laundry Service," which debuted and peaked at #3 in November 2001. "Shakira" is the singer's 10th studio album. It's unusual for an artist to release an eponymous album this deep into a career. There's only one other case where an artist has reached #1 with an eponymous album this far along. Fleetwood Mac's "Fleetwood Mac" (1976) was that band's 10th studio album (but its first with the line-up that brought it to superstardom). Note: The Beatles's "The Beatles" (1968, often called The White Album) was the Fab Four's ninth studio album in the U.S. (excluding soundtracks and compilations. Erica Campbell's first solo album, "Help," debuts at #6. Campbell has had three top 10 albums as half of the contemporary gospel duo Mary Mary. The Beatles topped the chart for nine weeks in 1965 with a soundtrack with the same title. (Well, almost. Theirs had an exclamation point.) Barry Manilow's 29th studio album, "Night Songs," debuts at #8. It's Manilow's 14th top 10 album. He scored his first in February 1975. This isn't Manilow's first album with a night-time focus. He had gold albums in the 1980s with "Here Comes The Night" and "2:00 AM Paradise Café." Pharrell Williams's "Happy" is #1 on Hot Digital Songs for the eighth week, with sales of 321K. Will the smash log its seventh week at #1 on the Hot 100? You'll find out later today when we post my first of two Chart Watch Songs blogs. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 albums. Foster The People's "Supermodel" drops from #3 to #29. Skrillex's "Recess" drops from #4 to #15. The Pretty Reckless's "Going To Hell" dives from #5 to #41. Rick Ross's "Mastermind" drops from #7 to #11. Enrique Iglesias's "SEX AND LOVE" dives from #8 to #42. Taking Back Sunday's "Happiness Is" plummets from #10 to #98. Kari Jobe's "Majestic" debuts at #12. Jobe recorded live worship album at the Majestic Theater in Dallas in November. It's the Contemporary Christian artist's second album to crack the top 20 … Jerrod Niemann's fifth studio album, "High Noon," debuts at #18. This is Niemann's second album to reach the top 20 … Glee Cast's "The Music: Celebrating 100 Episodes" debuts at #22. Newsboys's 2011 album "God's Not Dead" jumps from #81 to #48 in its 55th week on the chart. The title track is featured in the faith-based movie of the same name, which has been in the top five at the box-office the past two weekends. The movie soundtrack debuts at #150 this week. Newsboys's album jumps to #1 on Top Catalog Albums, displacing Bruno Mars's "Doo-Wops & Hooligans." The Christian rock band from Australia first cracked The Billboard 200 in 1996. Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" re-enters the chart at #53, in the wake of the release of a deluxe 40th anniversary edition. The double-disk album spent eight weeks at #1 in 1973, longer than any other album that year (and longer than any other Elton John studio album). It was #1 on Billboard's year-end chart for 1974. "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" didn't win any Grammys (which is unfortunate), but it was voted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2003. The album has sold 1,489,000 copies since January 1991. Pantera's "Far Beyond Driven" re-enters the chart at #63 in the wake of the release of a deluxe 20th anniversary edition. The album debuted at #1 in March 1994. It has sold 1,531,000 copies. "Live In Amsterdam" by blues/rock artists Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa is #1 on Top Music Videos. Coming Attractions: Look for the Aussie pop quartet 5 Seconds Of Summer to debut at #1 next week with "She Looks So Perfect." The EP is expected to sell in the 150K range. Also due: Christina Perri's "Head Or Heart," Chevelle's "La Gargola," Dan + Shay's "Where It All Began," Nickel Creek's "A Dotted Line" and The Used's "Imaginary Enemy." To My Readers: Yahoo has restored the separate Chart Watch folder, so Chart Watch blogs are no longer just part of the Yahoo Music blog. I hope this makes it easier for you to find them.

Weird that Billboard charted GYBR as two separate entries at 53 and 99. I'm surprised the record company didn't ask that they be combined for chart purposes.

Looks like Billboard's been doing that more often as of late, with deluxe reissues of albums.

I think this kind of decision can be made by the label as well. You're right, I forgot to add it. I remember several cases where albums that were reissued were asked by label to track same (e.g. Shania Twain's COO & COO (Int'l version)) In this case it doesn't matter because the chart position of the two versions wouldn't result in a higher peak for the set.

Yeesh. I thought album sales declines would have started to plateau by now.

^Nope. It's because of a weak release schedule.
Lil Wayne was supposed to be out in early May, but it has been delayed.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/chart-alert/6039653/chart-moves-gods-not-dead-sales-surge-london-grammar-gains Chart Moves: 'God's Not Dead' Sales Surge, London Grammar Gains, Karmin's Full-Length ArrivesBy Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | April 04, 2014 2:26 PM EDT This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, the "Frozen" soundtrack sat atop the list for an eighth nonconsecutive week, making it the longest-running No. 1 album since Adele's "21" clocked a 24-week at No. 1 in 2012. The top 10 was sprinkled with six new entries, including Shakira and Johnny Cash at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Outside the top 10, there were a number of movers and shakers -- let's take a closer look at some of them: -- Michael W. Smith, "Hymns" - No. 24 - With the No. 24 debut of "Hymns," the veteran artist clocks his highest-charting studio release since 2004's "Healing Rain" debuted and peaked at a career-high No. 11. The new set's CD is exclusive to Cracker Barrel, which amounted to 89 percent of its first week sales (11,000 of its 12,000). (The album was also available as a download.) -- Karmin, "Pulses" - No. 32 - Nearly three years after signing with Epic Records, the duo sees its first full-length album debut with 10,000. Their first Epic EP, "Hello," debuted and peaked at No. 18 in 2012 with 19,000 sold in its first week. It has sold 101,000 copies. The new album's single, "I Want It All," recently reached No. 39 on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart (known as Pop Songs on billboard.com). -- Lady Gaga, "ARTPOP" - No. 53 - It's been a busy few weeks for Gaga. The music video for the album's "G.U.Y." premiered March 22 and her seven-night Roseland concert series in New York began on March 28. The album -- which is up by 130 percent -- was also sale priced at Google Play for $3.99. It sold 6,000 in the week ending March 30. -- Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa, "Live in Amsterdam" - No. 87 - With the set's start at No. 1 on Blues Albums, Bonamassa extends his record for the most leader's in the chart's 18-year history: 12. For Hart, this is her second No. 1 on the Blues chart, and both are with Bonamassa. -- London Grammar, "If You Wait" - No. 91 - Released last September, the album debuts on the chart this week following its reissue on March 25 (up 180 percent) with its best sales frame yet (4,000). The band also played ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on March 26. The group is also profiting from the buzz generated by its cover of INXS' "Devil Inside," which is heard in trailers for the new season of HBO's "Game of Thrones." -- Soundtrack, "God's Not Dead" - No. 150 - The film -- which opened in theaters on March 21 -- shares its name with the Newsboys' 2011 album release (which rises 81-48; up 60 percent). The album's title track re-enters Hot Christian Songs at No. 2 (also its June 2012 peak) with 20,000 downloads sold; up 71 percent. The soundtrack to the movie itself debuts at No. 150, selling 3,000 copies in the week ending March 30 (up 80 percent). -- Miles Davis, "Miles at the Fillmore: Miles Davis 1970 - The Bootleg Series Vol. 3" - No. 189 - An expanded version of the jazz great's 1970 release "Miles Davis at the Fillmore" (which peaked at No. 123 that year) gives the trumpeter his 30th charting effort, as it debuts at No. 189. On Traditional Jazz Albums, the new "Fillmore" set hits No. 1 -- his first leader on the Jazz chart since 2001.
