"How to be a Country Star" by The Statler Brothers mentions a ton. Classic example. Here are the lyrics: There's questions we're always hearing every where we go Like how do I cut a record or get on a country show Well, it takes more than just ambition and three chords on an old guitar There's a few more things you ought to learn to be a country star You got to learn to sing like Waylon or pick like Jerry Reed Yodel like Jeannie Shepard, write songs like Tom T Put a cry in your voice like Haggard, learn Spanish like Johnny R Whisper like Bill Anderson and you'll be a country star Play piano like Ronnie Mil sap or Gilly or Jerry Lee Yo-yo like Roy Acuff or talk plain like Ralph Emery Growl like Conway Twitty, get a red, white and blue guitar Build a swimming pool like Webb did and you'll be a country star Be tall like Sonny James is, tell jokes like Minnie Pearl Or be short like Jimmy Dickens or play five-string like Earl Get a hip band like Willie, learn to stutter like M-Mel Get a cap like Roy Clark wore or a voice like Barbara Mandrel Be rich like Eddy Arnold, say you're makin' more than you are Get a gimmick like Charley Pride got and you'll be a country star But if you have no talent and you're not a male If you're built somewhat like Dolly or have a face like Crystal Gayle Come back stage and ask for Harold, Phil, Don or Lou And we'll see you get auditioned for the Statler Brothers Review

I know it was probably just a coincidence, but I always thought it was cool how Jeff Carson sang his last name in "The Car":
'Here's your car son, I hope it flies'

The fact that it could've just been "Mary, Mary", like he was just repeating her name or "marry Mary" I loved. Really thought that song deserved to do better than it did.

Clint Black - Tuckered Out (Too many to name...) Let me name those by revealing the lyrics. Love that song! If I'm correct Clint sang this at the 1993 CMA Awards when he co-hosted with Vince Gill. Somehow the subject of Clint Black came up with my roommate over dinner tonight (actually more so Clint's brother Brian). Anyways, I always though Clint would have a semi-comeback a la Randy Travis or Travis Tritt, but alas that has never happened.

"Tip Your Hat" by Marty Stuart mentions just about every country legend and their most famous song. Here are the lyrics to that song. Have not heard it yet, but I will. Mr. Uncle Josh. Would you kindly play me some deep southern blues on that hound-dog guitar there. Ah, now that's what I'm talkin' about. Yeah. Marty Robbins - El Paso; Waylon Jennings - Ramblin' Man; Roger Miller - King of the Road; Merle Haggard - The Way I Am. Now that's what I'm talkin' about. Hank Jr. - Family Tradition; Willie Nelson - Angel Flyin' Too Close To The Ground; Ray Price - Crazy Arms; Johnny Cash - Sunday Morning Coming Down. Now that's what I'm talkin' about. Now that's what I'm talkin' about Plow that field, plant that seed Rock on brother, let your roots run deep Show 'em what you've got, make them all believers For God sake boy, tip your hat to the teacher Kris Kristofferson - Help Me Make It Through The Night; Bob Wills - Cherokee Maiden; Buck Owens - Tiger By The Tail; Hank Williams - goes without sayin'. Now that's what I'm dob Yes sir, that's what I'm talking about Plow that field, plant that seed Rock on brother, let your roots run deep Show 'em what you've got, make them all believers For God sake boy, tip your hat to the teacher Ernest Tubb - Waltz Across Texas; George Jones - White Lightning; Patsy Cline - Walkin' After Midnight; Tammy Wynette - Stand By Your Man. That's what I'm talkin' about. Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Connie Smith, Johnny Paycheck, remember him - Take This Job and Shove It; Jimmie Rodgers, Acuff, and Monroe. We can't forget Cousin Minnie Pearl. But at night when I'm prayin' down on my knees, I thank God for Lester and Earl. Play it Earl, Scruggs that is Tip your hat to the teacher Tip your hat to the teacher
