OneRepublic becomes the first artist to have 2 songs spend 25 weeks in the top 10, the top 7 stay the same for 3 weeks. Not A Bad Thing, Loyal, and Sing, all miss the top 10. Happy will stay at #1 for a long time. All of Me will be blocked by Happy. Talk Dirty will see about a 40% increase in sales next week due to the album (right now it is at #8 and #10). Counting Stars feels old. Billboard likes making tons of very specific statements that almost don't mean anything, saying how narrow the statements are. Owl City flops. Lana set for a debut at about 10-15. Sing becomes Ed's highest charting single after its debut. (Side note: someone needs to tell Ed that every character dosn't cost $1,000). Frozen might not get #1 on the billboard 200 next week (it's at #5 on iTunes) right now. Team and Counting stars are not even in the top 30 on iTunes, but are in the billboard top 10. icantthinkofaname has too much free time. Frozen is expected to be number one next week by more than 100k

'Happy' tops 4MPharrell Williams's "Happy" tops the 4 million mark in digital sales this week. It's Williams' second song to reach that plateau in a little more than eight months. Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" (on which Williams was featured, along with T.I.) hit 4M in August. (It currently stands at 6,995,000). As you have probably surmised, "Happy" has already outsold Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," on which Williams was also featured. That Grammy-winning smash has sold 3,475,000 copies. "Happy" is the first song to sell 4M digital copies in 2014. It's off to a very fast start, but "Thrift Shop" by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz got off to an even faster start last year. It topped the 4M mark in 2013 sales the week ending March 31. (The current week is Nielsen SoundScan's week ending April 13.) "Happy" tops the Hot 100 for the eighth week. The feel-good smash is the first song by a male solo artist (who wasn't part of a collaboration) to log eight or more weeks at #1 since Mario's "Let Me Love You" spent nine weeks on top in 2005. "Happy" is #1 on Top Digital Songs for the ninth consecutive week. It's the first song to log nine or more consecutive weeks at #1 since the aforementioned "Thrift Shop," which had 10 consecutive weeks on top early last year. ("Blurred Lines" had a total of 10 weeks on top, but its run was broken up by One Direction's "Best Song Ever.") "Happy" is #1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for the 10th week. Idina Menzel's "Let It Go" holds at #5 for the fourth week. It's the fifth song to sell 2 million digital copies in 2014. The entire top seven is stationary for the third week in a row. That's a first in the history of the Hot 100, which dates to 1958. "Turn Down For What" by DJ Snake & Lil Jon jumps from #10 to #8. It's #1 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs for the third week. Aloe Blacc's "The Man" holds at #9 for the second week. This is its fifth week in the top 10, which surpasses Elton John's "Your Song" (from which the song borrows its "you can tell everybody" hook). That classic spent four weeks in the top 10 in 1971. OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" drops from #8 to #10. This is its 25th week in the top 10, which matches "Apologize" (which was credited Timbaland featuring One Republic) as the group's longest-running top 10 hit to date. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 songs. The Top Five: Pharrell Williams's "Happy" holds at #1 for the eighth week in its 15th week on the chart. This is its 11th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #1 (257K) … John Legend's "All Of Me" holds at #2 for the fourth week in its 27th week on the chart. This is its eighth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #2 (197K) … "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry featuring Juicy J holds at #3 for the fourth week in its 30th week on the chart. This is its 15th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #6 (111K) … "Talk Dirty" by Jason Derulo featuring 2 Chainz holds at #4 for the sixth week in its 17th week on the chart. This is its 12th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #3 (162K) … Idina Menzel's "Let It Go" holds at #5 for the fourth week in its 20th week on the chart. This is its fifth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #4 (152K). The Second Five: Bastille's "Pompeii" holds at #6 for the fourth week in its 35th week on the chart. This is its 12th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #12 (73K) … Lorde's "Team" holds at #7 for the fourth week in its 29th week on the chart. This is its 13th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #25 (46K) … "Turn Down For What" by DJ Snake & Lil Jon jumps from #10 to #8 in its 16th week on the chart. This is its third week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #8 (95K) … Aloe Blacc's "The Man" holds at #9 for the second week in its 16th week on the chart. This is its fifth week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #9 (89K)…. OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" drops from #8 to #10 in its 43rd week on the chart. This is its 25th week in the top 10. Digital sales rank: #30 (43K). Ed Sheeran's "Sing" is the week's top new entry at #15. Digital sales rank: #5 (123K). This instantly becomes Sheeran's highest-charting hit. His breakthrough hit, "The A Team," reached #16. It's from his sophomore album, "x," which is due June 23. Pharrell Williams co-wrote and co-produced the song, which is the second different song titled "Sing" to crack the top 20. Carpenters's version of the children's song from "Sesame Street" reached #3 in 1973. Three other songs titled "Sing" have made the Hot 100. These were by Tony Orlando & Dawn (#58 in 1977), My Chemical Romance (#58 in 2011) and the "Glee" Cast (#87 in 2010). (Actually, the "Glee" Cast stands slightly apart from the others: Their version of "Sing!," a song from "A Chorus Line," had an exclamation point.) Luke Bryan has two songs in the top 10 on Hot Digital Songs. "Play It Again" jumps from #8 to #7 in its seventh week (108K). Florida Georgia Line's "This Is How We Roll," on which he is featured, jumps from #11 to #10 in its 20th week (86K). On last week's Hot 100, they stood at #26 and #22, respectively. AWOLNATION's "Sail" tops the 5 million mark in digital sales this week. It's the 51st song to reach that plateau; the 12th that Nielsen SoundScan categorizes as rock—and the third that actually is rock, following Imagine Dragons's "Radioactive" (6,929,000) and Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" (6,065,000)."Sail" spent 79 weeks on the Hot 100, second only to "Radioactive," which is still listed after 83 weeks on the chart. (This will be its 84th.) "Sail" is one of the biggest sleeper hits in pop history. The song has sold more than 500K copies in each of the last four years. It sold 737K copies in 2011, 1,196,000 in 2012, 2,547,000 in 2013 and 514K so far in 2014. Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's 1993 recording of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"/"What A Wonderful World" top the 4 million mark in digital sales this week. This coupling has sold more digital copies than the classic original versions of these prized songs. Judy Garland's 1939 recording of "Over The Rainbow" has sold 468K digital copies. Louis Armstrong's 1967 recording of "What A Wonderful World" has sold 2,173,000 digital copies. (Both of those originals are in the Grammy Hall of Fame. Garland's was inducted in 1981; Armstrong's in 1999.) Miranda Lambert's "The House That Built Me" tops the 2 million mark this week. It's her first solo recording to reach 2M. She previously reached this mark as a member of Pistol Annies, which was featured on her husband Blake Shelton's "Boys 'Round Here" (2,468,000). Luke Bryan's "Drink A Beer" tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. It's Bryan's second song with a drinking theme to sell 1 million digital copies. "Drunk On You" is up to 2,796,000. Bryan isn't the only country artist with two drinking-themed million-sellers. Toby Keith scored with "I Love This Bar" (1,033,000) and "Beer For My Horses" (with Willie Nelson, 1,027,000). Keith has three if you count " Red Solo Cup" (2,413,000). Four other country songs with drinking themes have sold 1 million or more digital copies: "Whiskey Lullaby" by Brad Paisley & Alison Krauss (1,686,000), "You And Tequila" by Kenny Chesney with Grace Potter (1,434,000), "It's Five O' Clock Somewhere" by Alan Jackson & Jimmy Buffett (1,332,000) and Eric Church's "Drink In My Hand" (1,191,000).Florida Georgia Line's "Stay" tops the 1 million mark in digital sales. It's the duo's fourth million-seller, following "Cruise" (featuring Nelly, 6,688,000), "Get Your Shine On" (1,671,000) and "Round Here" (1,143,000). Jason Aldean's "Night Train" also tops the 1 million mark.

I'm still surprised that Judy Garland's version isn't more popular digitally considering how ubiquitous and well remembered it is to this day. (Judy's version sold over a million physical copies, so it should be at about 1.5 million copies combined).

The age of the recording has something to do with that

As if Radioactive has sold nearly the same as Blurred Lines lol. Pretty surprising. Wish the article had an update for thrift shop. it looks like maybe next year or by the end of this year Cruise will pass 7 million, which is pretty impressive.

Wait... Billboard said this is the 3rd week the top 7 have stayed the same, did they make an error, or did LTIT make an error? No mistake, it is 3 It's a matter of wording here.. This is, as you said, the third week in a row that the top 7 hasn't changed from the week before, so the top 7 has looked the same four consecutive times.

Billboard said the entire top 7 has been stationary for three consecutive weeks, a record.
This is true.
4/26 is the same as 4/19 4/19 is the same as 4/12 4/12 is the same as 4/5
4/5 saw a whole bunch of movement
4/26, 4/19 and 4/12
No mistake in the article. I also agree that 4/5 = 4/12 = 4/19 = 4/26 but the Billboard article was referring to lack of movement three weeks in a row.
Edit: The precise wording
"Not only are the Hot 100's top two songs in place from last week, but the entire top seven has now been stationary for three consecutive weeks, a first in the chart's 55-year archives"

^ Exactly. That's why I said "4" in my post without saying Billboard was wrong for saying "3." No one here is incorrect.

"Sail" spent 79 weeks on the Hot 100, second only to "Radioactive," which is still listed after 83 84 weeks on the chart. (This will be its 84th 85th.) I don't think they're supposed to give their opinion of what is and what isn't rock/alternative. Pretty sure it's for Hot 100 top ten recap and sales milestones...and if Paul thinks alternative isn't really rock, then shouldn't he also NOT categorize Sail or Radioactive as rock??? -_______-

Chart Watch: Luke Bryan Avenges ACM Losses
Luke Bryan was shut out at the recent Academy of Country Music Awards, going 0-3, but he's doing great on this week's Hot 100. Bryan has two songs scaling the top 20. "Loyal" by Chris Brown featuring Lil Wayne & French Montana Or Too $hort Or Tyga (that's the actual billing, folks) jumps from #12 to #11 in its 13th week … Justin Timberlake's "Not A Bad Thing" jumps from #14 to #12 in its seventh week.
Bastille's "Bad Blood" debuts at #95. It's the title song of the group's album, which has climbed as high as #11 …"Feelin' Myself" by will.i.am featuring Miley Cyrus, French Montana, Wiz Khalifa & DJ Mustard debuts at #96. So there 3 country songs in the top 20 of the Hot 100, that doesn't happen often.

I'm still surprised that Judy Garland's version isn't more popular digitally considering how ubiquitous and well remembered it is to this day. (Judy's version sold over a million physical copies, so it should be at about 1.5 million copies combined). Perhaps it's also due to the vast amount of covers available? Eva Cassidy's version may have sold decently as well. (Maybe around 100k copies or so).

Although those three could be in any order I'm not sure (though I think DIL will be lower than the other two at #19)

The Kamakawiwo'ole version feels more ubiquitous to me, though.. It's the one that everyone (Glee included), and it gets tons of TV play. His death certainly helped.

The Kamakawiwo'ole version is the one I've heard pretty much whenever I've heard it randomly playing in stores or places like that. The arrangement is really suitable for places like that and wherever else you might hear artists like Jack Johnson and Jason Mraz. I'd say that the Garland version is more famous, but it's linked almost exclusively to the movie now, so whenever people buy that it comes in the form of the DVD.

Just a quick note on that last bit, Team and Counting Stars are the only 2 in the top 10 that weren't top ten on this week's Billboard digital chart. And the top 5 on the digital and Hot 100 are almost identical. So again, people can't blame radio. Sales really aren't anymore dynamic.

Yes. It's the sales chart that's been horrifyingly static recently.

I wonder what the true story on "Landslide" was. Yes, it would have lost Country recurrent airplay. But by that point, it was marginal. For Landslide to crash, it would have had to be pulled instantly from hundreds of NON-Country stations, right? It was. It plummeted at AC and Hot AC too. It was #2 at Hot AC in March 2003 and was basically off the chart about a month later. At CHR/Pop, it went from #15 to off the chart a few weeks later (without ever going recurrent).
