Sad to have to add this to the list, but....
"Shut Up And Fish" by Maddie & Tae. I was sure that one was going straight to #1.

"Biscuits" by Kacey Musgraves. It should have been a multiple weeks number one. <3

I have to this day still surprised that Gloriana "Trouble" failed to sell all that well. It seemed to me like a song that both consumers and radio stations would love to play. Radio did their part but I was just amazed how bad it sold. It was a nice blend of country-pop and rock sprinkled in as well.

I'M DONE BIKER CHICK PEACE SIGN
all by Jo Dee Messina. What happened? Radio couldn't get enough of her singles and then it suddenly stopped

Yeah probably right. Many of her hits had a "novelty" feel to them.

"Too Late To Worry" is actually the Jo Dee song I was supposed stalled out. I thought it would have turned her album around. I still think it would have been bigger had it been released earlier in the album cycle.

"When She Cries" by Restless Heart. I remember hearing it quite frequently back when it was out (yes, even as a kid), so to discover years later that it only reached #9 sure caught me by surprise.
Sidebar: It's one of the handful of cassingles (cassette singles) from then that my family bought back then, and actually still have today.

Reading this surprised me, lol. It's the only song of theirs I ever heard on the radio growing up.

I think that if "Too Late to Worry" had been the second single instead of "Delicious Surprise", then TLTW would've done better. Delicious was just too off-kilter for radio, and it completely killed her momentum. Also, I noticed that "My Give a Damn's Busted" did horribly on the Hot 100 for a #1 country hit. I wonder what caused that?

Surprise #2: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restless_Heart_discography"When She Cries" was indeed their last Top 10, at that - a fact that also surprised me upon reading it. The song being their big crossover hit didn't really have much bearing on how often I heard the song, either - we listened to absolutely nothing but Country when I was growing up. (For that matter, I was also stunned when I learned that a song like Wynonna's "No One Else on Earth" didn't cross over, heh.)

Radio here never played them much. "The Bluest Eyes In Texas" is the only other of their songs that I know well.

Radio here never played them much. "The Bluest Eyes In Texas" is the only other of their songs that I know well. I think that RH's momentum died after "When She Cries" because they had lost both lead singer Larry Stewart and original producers Tim DuBois and Scott Hendricks. Fans probably didn't notice that "When She Cries" had drummer John Dittrich singing lead instead due to his similar voice, and the fact that it's an exceptional song likely kept it alive. As I said in the top 5/bottom 5 thread, WSC is actually my favorite song of theirs. But as he'd done with Alabama a little earlier, new producer Josh Leo kind of watered down their sound. "We Got the Love" (also sung by Dittrich) was a more cheery and breezy song than they'd done before, and "Mending Fences" was sung by keyboardist Dave Innis (even though he had left the band by the time it was released), who had a goofy nasal voice that didn't really fit their style. The next album had only three of the original members left, and little of the spark needed to keep them alive.

Sidebar: It's one of the handful of cassingles (cassette singles) from then that my family bought back then, and actually still have today. JoDee's career was killed by Curb. They took their time releasing her albums. Then they released 3 EPs which were quite pointless, why on earth did they do this? They could have just releaed one full album ad get behind promoting it. Also, JoDee had a two-dimensional persona based on the singles she and Curb released. Most of them were upbeat, women empowering songs which fit the climate then. But it was only two dimensional. They should have encourage her to explore other kinds of songs that give her more lyrical depth. "I Wis" came a little too late... Personally I have lost interested in her after "My Give a Damned Busted," at that time (and still do) I felt she took the strong-women-weak-men theme a little too far that she appears to be riding the bandwagon far too long.

All 4 of Ashton Shepherd's major label single should have been hits. There are some gems on both albums too that I think could've been hits that weren't released (Not Right Now, Old Memory, Beer On a Boat). If only she were emerging now, instead of during the female drought.....

"Baby, Now That I Found You" by Aliaon Krauss. Radio here played it like a top 10, so I was pretty surprised to see it missed top 40 (#49 peak). They also played "When You Say Nothing At All" like a multi-week #1, but I always knew that it peaked at #3.

Toby Keith "Somewhere Else" If I recall, Toby yanked "Somewhere Else" a few weeks prematurely to debut "Made In America". I think it could've peaked in the top 5 or 6 if they played out its full chart life but Toby always wanted to release an album every fall or so (once a year) so he was once again anxious to do it again in 2011.

Barring a resurgence, I think we can, unfortunately, add these two to the list:
Maren Morris - "My Church" Chris Stapleton - "Nobody to Blame"

I personally think that "Love You With All My Heart" is one of the best songs Sara Evans ever recorded... It is definitely within my top 5 singles from her. I cannot believe it never charted!! Such an underrated gem that has probably been spun more times on my iPod than it has on every radio station in the country combined... Lol.

I love that song and was sad it went nowhere, but I can't say I was surprised since it was the third single from Greatest Hits project (most only get 1 *maybe* 2) and the second single didn't even make the Top 20, so it probably shouldn't have even been released. But given what she was going through personally at that time and the fact it didn't even chart at all, I suspect that the label threw it out to radio with next to no promo knowing that new music wasn't imminent. Beautiful song though.

I think that Love You with All My Heart is a total snoozefest, personally. Yeah, I've seen you say that before. I think the reason I love it so much is because as an avid Sara fan I cannot help but pay attention to every single nuance of her vocal delivery, and in that song she does some really cool things that help it stand out among her discography. Like when she holds "love you with all myyyyyyyy heart" at the very end of the song, and in the middle of the "my" she cracks her voice in the transition from a higher note to a lower note. That is a very unique and rare vocal choice. And the absolute control she has over her vibrato in that song is truly something. Especially the line, "Though it makes me crazy when your fingers touch my skin." Right at the end when she sustains "skin" and starts kinda soft but gets louder and adds vibrato as the note is sustained, it gives me chills every time. However, I can understand why you might find it boring. Sara is not known to be a frequent belter, but this song is probably one of her beltiest singles. I know that can be a turn-off to some people. It also has pretty loud production. I personally love the production, but I could definitely see it being too much for people.
