Excluding one hit wonders/artists who never made it past 2 or 3 really successful albums, what are some debut singles that have become signature hits of artists who went on to have successful careers?
Probably the best example of this I can think of is Trisha Yearwood's "She's In Love With The Boy". Other examples that come to mind are Faith Hill's "Wild One" and Diamond Rio's "Meet In The Middle". In terms of recent artist, I think the best case could be made for Sugarland's "Baby Girl" (although I guess it could be argued that it's not among their very biggest hits). As a solo artist, I think Wynonna's "She Is His Only Need" would also qualify.

Gretchen Wilson, "Redneck Woman" Billy Ray Cyrus, "Achy Breaky Heart" Also, before anyone says it, Collin Raye's "Love, Me" was his second single, so he's out.

The number one example of all time for female artists: Connie Smith's Once A Day.
