I thought this would be a fun little topic. Songs that name drop other songs either on purpose or inadvertently. EXAMPLE: Luke Bryan - Play It Again name drops "Goodnight Kiss" "Spinnin' in the headlights she gave me a goodnight kiss" There are couple but I can't think of them right now. Is that really an example or just a coincidence? Anyway, This Is Country Music by Brad Paisley.

I'm sure I could think of quite a few for Darius Ruckers "This".

The verses of "I Hate These Songs" by Dale Watson are made up almost entirely of classic country songs.

As much as it will bother most, 1994 quotes numerous Joe Diffie songs that I'm not willing to pick out lol. Justin Moore - "If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away" (Me and Bobby McGee) Chris Young - "I Can Take it From There" (I'd Love to Lay You Down)

Example of a self-reference: Dixie Chicks - The Long Way Around: "It's been two long years now since the top of the world came crashing down."

Did It For The Girl mentions George Strait's song Marina Del Rey
Justin Moore name dropped quite a bit in his earlier stuff. -Small Town Saturday Night mentions Sweet Home Alabama -Hank It mentions All My Rowdy Friends by Hank Jr
In Play It Again, I think he's just saying she gave him a goodnight kiss. It doesn't have anything to do with the Randy Houser song.
Oh yeah, Rodney Atkins mentions Simple Man, and The Ballad of Curtis Lowe in "These Are My People"
Even George Jones name dropped "Wabash Cannonball" and "Blue Sued Shoes" in his song "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?"

What was this not a single? They recorded it, but it's not on any album, right? I really love this song.

What was this not a single? They recorded it, but it's not on any album, right? I really love this song. It was one of the three new tracks included on the re-release of Golden. Why it wasn't a single will forever mystify me, because it would've been huge and the whole re-release was completely pointless when all they ended up doing was putting "Compass" out from it.

Perfect Stranger- The hits
Chiseled in stone, help me hold on, It was almost like a song, Born to lose, am I blue, I’ll always love you, Since you’ve been gone,Just you and I, don’t close your eyes, I’m so lonesome I could cry, One long day, life turned her that way, He stopped lovin’ her today

A lot of songs that are tributes to other artists do this, e.g.
Charla Corn - Chris Knight ("Cry Lonely", "The Jealous Kind", "Heart of Stone", "Out of This Hole," "Love and a .45", etc.)
Eric Lee Beddingfield - The Gospel According to Jones ("The Grand Tour"", "He "Stopped Loving Her Today", "Tennessee Whiskey", "White Lightning," "Choices", etc.)
Gord Bamford - Hank Williams Lonesome ("Hey Good Lookin'", "You Win Again", "Lost Highway", "Cold Cold Heart", etc.)
Justin Haigh - Waylon ("Ramblin' Man", "Drinkin' and Dreamin'", "Ladies Love Outlaws", "Singer of Sad Songs", "The Eagle", etc.)
Randy Travis w/ Joe Nichols - Tonight I'm Playin' Possum ("Bartender's Blues", "Why, Baby, Why", "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes", "Still Doing Time")
Tim McGraw - Give it to Me Strait ("Am I Blue", "Baby's Gotten So Good at Goodbye", "The Fireman", "Unwound", etc.)

Summers Like That - Karyn Rochelle (Strawberry Wine, Maybe It Was Memphis, Keeper of the Stars, Carried Away, Walkaway Joe, Dust on the Bottle, Neon Moon, Time Marches On, also I'm 100% sure she mentioned The Dance live but it isn't on the studio recording)
