Post fun or serious thoughts. Example:Imagine What Country Music Would Look Like If... "Cruise" Was Never Written, Recorded or Released. Another one would have taken its place. It would have been an inferior or superior (depending on your point of view) version (not necessarily Cruise though). Now imagine country music had Carrie Underwood NOT been on American Idol.

If Waylon Jennings had not given up his seat to the Big Bopper on the airplane that would later crash, a.k.a. the Day the Music Died.

If Garth and Shania hadn't become massive stars If Shania had never recorded "Come On Over" If " the incident had never happened the DCX Queens still smashed :'( If Carrie had not listened to her Mom's friend's advice and auditioned for/won Idol If Shedaisy had exploded, instead of Rascal Flatts If Blake had kept THBM for himself and recorded/released it If Sara Evans or Rascal Flatts recorded JTTW and one released it If Brad and Carrie released a duets album/toured If the Wreckers had stayed together and made several additional albums
If Follow Your Arrow had smashed :'( If Bro Country never fucking existed

*If Carolina Rain was on a bigger label...bitter. *If DreamWorks had not gone under and Toby and Scott Borchetta had not started Show Dog and more importantly Big Machine Records....Perhaps no Taylor, FGL, Justin Moore, Thomas Rhett, or The Band Perry. Perhaps Hot Apple Pie might have even gotten one or two more hits on DreamWorks.

If it had been Johnny Cash who died instead of his brother at age 15?

If Faith Hill hadn't had a major meltdown backstage when Carrie Underwood won instead of Faith
If Curb Records knew how to pick a single
If Dierks Bentley never got a record contract (that would be a sad, sad day for me)

If Curb Records knew how to pick a single If Curb knew how to pick a single....90% of the posts in the "Suspicions", "Kristofferson", "Let It Go", and "Nothin' To Die For" threads would not exist. ;) Only in our wildest dreams unfortunately.

First that came to mind was if the Dixie Chicks incident hadn't happened. I often think about that and it's tough to say I'd rather it had not happened so they could've stayed big, but then again the masterpiece that is Taking the Long Way wouldn't have come about, and that album is their best imo.
Another one would be if LeAnn Rimes had never cheated on her husband and experienced that whole scandal and backlash. She could've had such a bright future (if she had only landed on a better label, too).

I included the incident in one my posts as well, but I was musing with a friend of mine if the incident hadn't happened, would they have recorded another album like " Home?" It's purely Country and acoustic; I often wondered if they would have continued in that direction, if they hadn't vowed to completely distance themselves from Country. Considering Natalie wanted to be a Rock artist before she auditioned for DC, and Martie and Emily were touring independently as a bluegrass duo before they got together part of me wonders if their dramatically different backgrounds could have been an indication they could have drifted apart creatively eventually, anyway.

If Toby Keith had never left Mercury? How would have is music be different if at all? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say we'd be getting much better music lol. Between "Red Solo Cup" and this new album I have to force myself to even listen to iTunes previews of most of his new material. A couple really good songs, but not many.

Between "Red Solo Cup" and this new album I have to force myself to even listen to iTunes previews of most of his new material. A couple really good songs, but not many. He certainly has become a more well known artist outside of country music since then. Plus his personality has really come to the forefront. I actually have enjoyed most of his material, including post "How Do You Like Me Now?!" Still don't understand the hate for songs like "High Maintenance Woman", "Get Drunk And Be Somebody", and "Big Blue Note". But everybody has their preferences. But he has had some outstanding songs IMO with "Love Me If You Can", "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This", and "My List". Lately he's had some average songs though with "Drinks After Work", "Somewhere Else", "Made In America", and "Beers Ago" (many love that one but I find it very pedestrian). "Red Solo Cup" is in a class of it's own. It barely qualifies as a song.

Songs like "My List", "Love Me If You Can", "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This", and "High Maintenance Woman" (it's hilarious to me) are songs I liked. It's been mostly the beer-themed songs I haven't cared for (minus "Hope on the Rocks" which is stellar), but whereas albums like "Unleashed" and "Pull My Chain" I own in their entirety, new albums like "Hope on the Rocks" and "Clancy's Tavern" I picked up only a couple and "Drinks After Work" I completely skipped out on. I guess I'll always prefer older Toby because it was what I was listening to as a kid, its just I feel the albums. as a whole, have dropped in quality recently.

If:
...Sara Evans had never gone through that nasty divorce that sidetracked her career and kept her out of the public eye for like 6 years. (Seriously, her career was definitely reaching a new high point back in 2005/2006 with the Real Fine Place era. I think she was reaching a success level that would have stuck for at least a couple more albums, finally giving her a handful of top-10 hits in a row. I also like to think that with the way things were going, she was only another year or two away from taking home a CMA Female Vocalist trophy.)
...Terri Clark had never lost traction on American radio. (What a tragedy. Thank God she is still very active up in Canada.)
...9/11 had never happened. ("Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning", "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue", "Have You Forgotten", etc. None of those songs would have ever existed. Also, songs like "American Soldier" and "Only In America" may have existed, but would have had impact in very different ways.)
...George Strait actually made music videos.
...Blake Shelton had never cut his hair.

^ bboat11 yours are my favorites so far! I agree with the first two for sure. I'm glad Sara Evans had a pretty successful comeback, but I wish she hadn't experienced the career setback/break that her divorce caused. And I too miss Terri Clark's presence on country radio here in the U.S. Glad she still puts out great albums though and is able to get some chart action in Canada, at least. First that came to mind was if the Dixie Chicks incident hadn't happened. I often think about that and it's tough to say I'd rather it had not happened so they could've stayed big, but then again the masterpiece that is Taking the Long Way wouldn't have come about, and that album is their best imo. Considering Natalie wanted to be a Rock artist before she auditioned for DC, and Martie and Emily were touring independently as a bluegrass duo before they got together part of me wonders if their dramatically different backgrounds could have been an indication they could have drifted apart creatively eventually, anyway. Well I definitely would've been disappointed then, because I love the album that resulted from the controversy and the two that preceded Home are miles better to me as well. Home is the only record of the four I don't love, though I still enjoy it and it certainly has several gems. Stylistically though, it is not my preference. As for whether they'd eventually drift apart, I'm not so sure, considering they still continue to perform together (even though they've done separate side projects in the past couple years; Natalie with Mother, and Court Yard Hounds with their two records). Despite those ventures and a lack of a follow-up to Taking the Long Way, the group is still together. Kind of similar to the Sugarland situation we have now.

If Reba had not released Starting Over. Certainly she would not have maintained her commercial peak forever but it seemed this release started the gradual decent.

I would have to disagree with that one. I truly believe Reba McEntire's 'commercial peak' and gradual decent started in the 2000s when she concentrated more on her Reba sitcom over her musical career. The follow up CD to Starting Over was What If It's You. That CD hit #1 on the country chart, #15 on the top 200. It spawned four major hits: 1. The Fear Of Being Alone-1996-#2-chart wise, her biggest #2 hit 2. How Was I To Know-1997-#1 3. I'd Rather Ride Around With You-1997-#2 4. What If It's You-1997-#15 By the way, the CD is certified double platinum, so her 'commercial peak' was still there.

If Naomi Judd did not retire in 1991. Would the Judds be dominant between 1991-1999 like they were between 1983-1991?
