I didn't buy this one but I had to listen to it because imo it couldn't be worse than her last attempt. While I like this better, there are only maybe 3-4 songs that really jumped out at me while listening to it. Girls, Automatic, Holding on to You and the stellar Another Sunday in the South. Imo, that could be her career song...it's THAT good. Oh, and I still REFUSE to listen to her current single.

A few days later and this album is still the only thing I've listened to all week. Such an incredible effort. "Gravity is a Bitch" has quickly become my favorite. "Girls," "Smokin' and Drinkin'," "Babies Makin' Babies," and "Another Sunday in the South" are all tied for second for me.

Same thoughts here except I'll probably add Little Red Wagon since that song has grown on me for the whole week of listening to it. She performed it and the song Priscilla on her LP Field set. Here's a video I found on youtube of Little Red Wagon:

This album is FIRE!
There isn't a song I would discard... They are all great. I'd love to see these songs as singles:
"Smokin' and Drinkin'" "Gravity is a Bitch" (Would this be censored on radio? If so, scratch that as a single... bleeping out "bitch" would ruin it, for me at least). "Babies Makin' Babies"

A few of these songs had to grow on me, but I'm loving it more with each listen.
*The variety, attitude, vocals and songwriting are all top-notch. *The variety in production in particular is SO refreshing, considering her last few albums were the most polished in her body of work *I love that she addresses aging with such a sharp, biting humor (Bathroom Sink, Gravity's A B*itch, Platinum) *Her sense of humor is sharper and more acute than on any of her previous records * Automatic fits much better within the context of the album * I love that Miranda balanced a mainstream sound while still including songs that would never touch radio. It's refreshing to see an artist make a great album for the sake of doing so, instead of making one and stuffing it full of boring radio filler *Unlike her last two records, this is deserving of an album of the year trophy
Standouts: Little Red Wagon, Another Sunday In The South, Gravity's A B*itch, Two Rings Shy, Hard Staying Sober
God bless Miranda Lambert for giving us good ol' fashioned ACTUAL Country music. :)

Since we're probably only going to get three more singles from Platinum after "Somethin' Bad," my picks for the next singles would be: 3. Priscilla 4. Another Sunday in the South 5. Girls /or/ Bathroom Sink I'd also approve of "Babies Makin' Babies" being a single. There's several others I'd love to hear on radio, but I'm not sure if they'd work for one reason or another (i.e. the vocal style of "Platinum" or the production on "Two Rings Shy" might make them polarizing). This album is FIRE! There isn't a song I would discard... They are all great. I'd love to see these songs as singles: "Smokin' and Drinkin'" "Gravity is a Bitch" (Would this be censored on radio? If so, scratch that as a single... bleeping out "bitch" would ruin it, for me at least). "Babies Makin' Babies" If CHR censored Britney's "Work Bitch" from last year, I can't see country radio letting that word fly on the airwaves.

Single choices: "Little Red Wagon", "Girls", "Another Sunday in the South", and either "Smokin' and Drinkin'" or "Holding On to You". Don't care what order, don't care what combo.

Assuming only three more singles, I'd say:
3. Priscilla 4. Another Sunday In The South 5. Hard Staying Sober
Backup choices would be "Babies Making Babies", "Smokin' and Drinkin'" and "Little Red Wagon". I love "Gravity is a Bitch", but an edit would ruin it.

While I thought this was a better effort then Four The Record , I was still kinda disappointed in this album. I still find myself missing the Miranda of her first two albums. I didn't like much at all from the first half of the record. "Platinum" is cringe worthy to me , and I gotta say I'm astounded at the support for "Little Red Wagon" here. I think it would easily fall into the worst song of her career and is proverbial nails on chalkboard from beginning to end. "Smoking and Drinking" may have been okay but is just destroyed by the monotone vocal effect. "Priscilla" comes off as a rip off George Michael 's "I Want Your Sex" just as much as "Something Bad" comes off as a rip off of both Aerosmith & Queen. No thanks.
While it took a few listens for some of the tracks to grow on me like "Automatic" ,"Girls"& "Bathroom Sink" my favorites don't have a chance in hell at being singles. I LOVE "Old s**t" , "All That's Left" with the Time Jumpers , "Babies Makin' Babies " & the almost vaudeville "Gravity Is A Bitch" is hilarious! My three favorites would easily be the R&B influenced "Holding On To You" & "Another Sunday In The South" & "Hard Staying Sober", as the later would have fit perfectly on either of her first two albums. And wow , Chris Stapleton sounds great even with a single background line. I also agree with Steelo that ASITS could very well be a career song if released to radio. What I like on this record, I REALLY like.... but I what I dislike, I REALLY dislike.

Personally, I don't hear any blatant rip-offs in either of the two songs you mentioned, but I suppose it's an interesting point anyway, Carrie has always been heavily influenced by 80's Rock, and regularly covers it. Miranda hasn't quite pulled off the style the way Carrie managed to with "Good Girl" to my ears, though. I also think both ladies pull off this style much better than their contemporary male peers, and with more personality to boot. Just my prospective, of course.

Duca, in the General News section, has Platinum's sales at 179,000 (rounded off to the nearest thousand). If that number holds up, I will say an early congratulations to Miranda Lambert!

What I like on this record, I REALLY like.... but I what I dislike, I REALLY dislike. My thoughts are somewhat in line with yours. Platinum and Little Red Wagon are easily my least favorites - don't hear anything appealing in either song. Smoking & Drinking should've been great, a standout and must release single - but that vocal effect renders the song completely unlistenable. If they send it to radio with an edit that removes the effect, I'd be on board 100%. Otherwise it's just a case of what could've been. I love many of the cuts that have no chance at hell at radio - All That's Left is fantastic, Gravity Is a A Bitch is indeed hilarious. Babies Makin' Babies is great - what a catchy chorus. Radio is probably too conservative to play it, but one can dream. Hard Staying Sober does sounds like a Four The Record leftover, but that's not an indication of lack of quality. Another Sunday In The South is just plain perfect. It's taken her nearly a decade, but Me & Charlie Talking is finally dethroned as my favorite Miranda song. I initially didn't think it stood a chance in hell as a single, but the optimism in this thread gives me hope. Overall, this album is easily her most personal and least accessible, which isn't really a bad thing. I just don't connect with some of the more feminine songs on the record. There's plenty of good in there though, even if the likely single choices aren't my favorites. Girls would seem like the most obvious future single, with Bathroom Sink being the likely ballad choice (both songs are ok, but I could take or leave them both). Maybe I'm a fool, but I just can't see Smoking & Drinking released with that vocal effect - it would no doubt be polarizing. If they go 5 deep that's where I could see Another Sunday In The South getting a shot, and man I hope it gets it.

Maybe kw9461 was referring to "Holding On to You"?... which is pretty much the only true ballad on this album?... Most everything else is mid-tempo or uptempo, I'd say. Edit: I see your point kw9461

I meant it would occupy the ballad spot (Miranda has tradionally released a ballad as the 2nd or 3rd single) since I don't see a true ballad being released. It's certainly not a ballad, but it does start out slow before segueing to mid-tempo. I should have elaborated better.

It took more than one play to truly click, but I really like this album. I also really like those sales; while I wish the "wealth" was spread around more amongst country women, I love that people are rewarding her for her continued progression and actual talent. "Girls," "Platinum," "Little Red Wagon," "Priscilla," "Automatic," "Somethin' Bad," and "Another Sunday In The South" are the ones that stood out most, but the entire thing is great. I can put the whole album on shuffle and know that I'll enjoy the next hour of music.

Areyoureadytojump has Platinum selling anywhere from 55k-60k next week. That means total sales will be anywhere from 235,000 to 240,000. Which also means its sales drop percentage is relatively good, compared to most major releases. Platinum may end up being Miranda's most successful album.

My favorite Miranda album since Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. My favorites are Smokin' and Drinkin' (I've had this one on repeat the past few days!), Platinum, Automatic, Old Sh!t, Gravity is a Bitch, Girls and Another Sunday in the South.

Smokin' and Drinkin' (I've had this one on repeat the past few days!) I was just coming in here to post that! I'm glad I'm not the only one; the song is absolutely phenomenal, brilliant, astounding, etc. I don't have enough praise for it, honestly.

"Smokin' And Drinkin'" has grown on me considerably. Nice to see some love for "Girls" "Platinum" isn't a favorite, but I love the attitude, delivery and most of the lyrics, it fits well within the context of the record.
