I guess I never realized "Together Again" was a Pulse favorite, which is funny since it's my favorite. ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif) (I did a Janet countdown two years ago that I never finished, but "Together Again" was going to be my #1) I like "Scream" but I was never able to really get into it. I feel that way about a lot of Michael Jackson's material.

Coco, this is a brilliant list. Thank you!
I love "Together Again". It was blessed with an incredible suite of remixes. The Jimmy Jam Deeper Remix, a ballad version, was especially touching, and received its own video treatment:
And we cannot forget her performance of the DJ Premier 100 in a 50 Remix at the AMA's.

#24 Everytime 1997, Velvet Rope
It's not my fucking fault this album remains flawless, k. A slow moving ballad that is dripping in honey, sweet and unassuming. I just love the dreamy like trance it puts me on everytime, I play it and speaks to my heart. Its speaks of being afraid to let go and love because everytime you fall in love someone gon" break your heart. I guess I can relate to it because of that, I just feel men, relationships SUCK (we are working on that tho!)
The video was so iconic, the symbolism of Janet almost drowning in water but yet remaining afloat ties so well into the lyrical matter, the video was so iconic another diva decided to borrow it for her own song , ironically titled same. The impact is real, guys.
"One half wants me to go One half wants me to stay I just get so all confused
I'm scared to fall in love Afraid to love so fast Cuz every time I fall in love It seems to never last"

#23 Someone To Call My Lover 2001, All For You
When this dropped I played the hell out of it, easiest way to express what I thought of it is to call it a 'epic bop" it's just a well done melody, feel good type of track that just wistfully takes you to places man, I love the vocals, how she glides over the production. The strings in the instrumentation is just a perfect touch.
I just loved the innocence and child like wishing of meeting the right one, its a song that is just so rooted in girlish fantasies and what I like about it is amongst all her heavy, aggressive and beat pounding tracks this has its own unique lane. Its a pop, r&b pop that gets missed when talking about, Janet but as midtempos goes, this is right up there with the best she has done. Honestly love it most because it evokes so much nostalgia for me. 2001 was such a fun time for me.
"Maybe we'll meet at a bar He'll drive a funky car Maybe we'll meet at a club And fall so deeply in love He'll tell me I'm the one And we'll have so much fun I'll be the girl of his dreams maybe"

#22 Black Cat 1989, Rhythm Nation 1814
"AINT NO ACID IN THIS HOUSE"
Hard, edgy, rockish and full on ATTITUDE, YESSS MAAAAA”AM! Ms versatile went in on this edgy number and she got that guy together whoever he maybe. Don’t make promises you cant keep or Janet will drag you through the mud in song. The song is so deep yet so fun, it talks about substance abuse and is a honest song that doesnt mince words, I’m here for that!
This is a classic sound for Janet and even though the production was very “Rhythm Nation” in the overall scheme of her career its still refreshing and not often duplicated by Janet.
I’m always impressed at how versatile her style or voice is, how she can blend and adapt so much musical influences and make it always so great, always.
"don't understand Why you insist On ways of living such a dangerous life Time after time you stay away And I just know that you're telling me lies
Black cat Nine lives Short days Long nights Livin on the edge Not afraid to die Heart beat Real strong But not For long Better watch your step Or you're gonna die"
Landmarx I can see you loving this and horchata this song is dedicated to you, your attitude is reflected in this song for me, straight to the motherfucking point.

"Every Time" is one of my favorites. Truly underrated. Love "Someone to Call My Lover" and "Black Cat" too.
Though it's not her best album, All For You always make me happy because it reminds me of my childhood (it was my first Janet CD). My mom wouldn't let me listen to tracks 6-9, lol.

RE- "All For You"
It felt like a letdown coming of that string of albums in a row that I consider classic but it had some great songs that I like. I like it far better than the album that followed it.

I feel pretty much the same way. I love most, if not all, tracks on All For You, just not to the extent of the albums that preceded it. It was her last album to feel like it had a theme to it: Finally enjoying life post depression and divorce.
I would rank her post-2000 albums: 1. All For You 2. Damita Jo - like or love almost everything, but feels a little too scattered. Plays well as separate tracks, less so as a whole album. "Thinkin' 'Bout My Ex" and "Strawberry Bounce" get the most replay from me. 3. Discipline - only a few tracks I don't like. The first half (up to "Can't B Good") plus the title track and the international bonus track ("Let Me Know") would be a near perfect album for me. 4. 20 Y.O. - honestly only a few tracks I love. I jam to "So Excited" and especially "Enjoy". Nothing here that I down right hate, but most of the songs are just unremarkable. "Call on Me" is my least favorite lead single from her, ever. Yes, I'm counting "Don't Stand Another Chance".

Ty for the song dedication :') "Black Cat" is personally one of my favorite Janet songs and has always been kind of underrated it seems like? Glad to see it on the list here of course. It's also a fine showcase as to why Janet has more dimension than she is usually credited for in regard to her voice and general musicality.

LOVVVE Black Cat. And "Together Again" would have been my #1.
"Someone To Call My Lover" is aiight. It's a feel-good song. But I'm more down with the "Ventura Highway" sample.

#late but I agree with Ginger Spice on 'Scream'. I just couldn't get into it. I get why it was important (and the video is iconic as hell) but it just wasn't for me.

#28 Again For me it’s Janet’s signature ballad. PERIOD. I mean… I love slower jams and baby-making songs, but none of them come even close to Again. It’s just such a beautiful love song: simple and sincere, her vocals are just shining in it.
#27 What Have You Done For Me Lately It’s my favorite video from Control. I never can get enough of it. Love her attitude in it. It’s probably also the case when she reminds me the most of her brother Michael: her moves, her face expressions to the point it’s just scary at times.
Damn, I need to catch up with these updates, too bad I have no time for this now.

#21 Come Back To Me 1989, Rhythm Nation 1814
Kishi KCM Come Back To Me is my favorite Janet song because of the arrangement and it's haunting quality...the video is so perfect for the mood of the song. I love the harmonies and the Abandoned Heart Mix is so beautiful. It has always been my favorite since I was little. :)
A dreamy and blissful love song with a lovely melody and instrumentation. Janet wistfully sings to losing someone she "misses so much" . This is another one of my late night ballads I listen to that take me to places when I am in a reminiscent mood. This song while kinda forgotten now was a major hit for Janet, It was #2 on the billboard charts and would have been #1 if it wasn't for 'Vision of Love".
It remains one of the best love ballads that Janet put out due to its classic beauty. Fun little fact her future husband was the lead character in the music video, the one she never told people about until the end. So secretive, I love it! Nobody needs to know your business and love life, like nowadays where people make a name of who they dating.
" Looking through my old drawer Came across the letter you wrote Said you needed time away That was so long ago All my life I've waited To see your smile again In my mind I hated Not able to let go
Come back to me I'm beggin' you please Come back to me I want you to Come back to me I'm beggin' you please Come back to me"

#20 Go Deep 1997, Velvet Rope
Fuck man, I played the shit out of this bop for the longest time. It's probably the most missed , Janet jams by most people but this song just goes hard for me. It has a hard beat and love how janet sings so velvet like over the beat. A part jam and a cute video!
I remember when i was of age, me and my friend dancing to this as we went out to the clubs in Ottawa and pretending we were Janet Jackson, fierce and all!
It has a special place in the sequence of the album too it helps break up the more serious song and adds a touch of frivolous fun and good times. While it might be able to go toe to toe with her upcoming classic uptempos, i just have special place in my heart for this jam.
I love the urban mix by Timbo, so I i will link that underneath too! It has aged now that i relisten but it went hard back in the day!

The TOP 20 kicks off with a classic Janet song from 1989 and then we fast forward 12 years later.

#26 Together Again: I love this song, it’s meaning, but tbh it’s been among my favorites from TVR until I lost someone really important to me around 2 years ago. it’s one of these rare cases in her discography when I like a remix way more that the studio version.
DJ Premier Remix >>>>> Album Version

#21 Come Back To Me 1989, Rhythm Nation 1814
Such a gorgeous ballad. I remember listening to American Top 40 (RIP Casey Kasem) every weekend to see if this was going to hit #1.....and it stalled at #2 for a few weeks. #2 is great, don't get me wrong, but this song deserved #1. Classic!

"Together Again" is one of my favorites. "Every Time" is pretty, a nice sister to "Again." "Come Back to Me" is one of her best ballads.
There really isn't much up to 2004 that I don't enjoy from Damita. Even some of the more throwaway tracks, like "Go Deep," have the fun factor.

She was consistently strong and her discography so vast. Go Deep has such a nostalgic tinge that it always stayed with me.

#25 Scream @spiritanimal I didn’t send my vote because it seemed almost impossible to pick just one song, since there is literally just one album from Janet I don’t care about… (20 Y.O.) BUT after rethinking it, I would have voted for SCREAM for several reasons: - It is the introducing single of an Album Era that I fully experienced in my life for the very first time. I waited for every music video, I saw Michael live in concert, which was unfortunately once in a lifetime experience for me. - It’s just such an extraordinary duet: two huge popstars, siblings, reunited on one track. Both of them happen to be my the biggest inspirations in my life, as far as music is concerned. - It was unusual that Michael spoke so openly about what bothers him. Every verse in these lyrics it’s very straight to the point, full of anger and disappointment, for the very first time he let it all out instead of hiding behind his image. - Although Michael wanted collaborate with Janet in the 1980s, she denied, one of the reasons was that she wanted to to be a very meaningful collaboration, few years later, she did just that, you can tell that on Scream she’s just an angry little sister more than anything, that is gonna have his big brother’s back no matter what. - I also really love Janet’s image in the video, it’s just so different that anything she’s ever done. There’s a funny story related to the recording session for Scream. Both Michael and Janet came to the studio to record their vocals. Michael started recording his: first he listened to producer’s suggestions he recorded his verses, and it was perfect, nothing to change, but of course Michael asked if he could do it again, since he didn’t like it. This time he just nailed it, to the point that he left every single person in the room speechless with their jaws on the floor. Then Janet was like Yhm, You know what, I’ll record my vocals the other time. Too bad, it was the first and the last time their collaborated. #24 Everytime: It’s just the perfect ballad. Period. Very chill, very uplifting, it’s the change of the mood on TVR, I was earlier writing about. #23 Someone To Call My Lover: I like it. That’s all. This song never really clicked with me for some reason. #22 Black Cat: One of a few song Janet wrote, One of the absolute stand out tracks from RR1814. + Every single tour performance is FIRE. #21 Come Back To Me: Two words: Her HARMONIES. #20 Go Deep When I think of TVR this song often comes to my mind. I remember when I was dancing my ass off to this song when I was like 9. Good memories. It’s one of these tracks I love to listen in acapella:

#19 Son of Gun 2001, All For You
Yass another song of sass and attitude! I didn't love this when it first came out , but over come came to like it. The song is obviously a sample of, Carly Simon's song " Your So Vain" but its very "Janet". The only version I listen to nowadays is the one that features the incredible, Missy Elliot.
Over the years many have speculated on who this song was for, although Janet denies it, I think its for her ex husband who tried to come for her money but just like she has been dismissing people over the years, Janet cuts him up and leaves him for dead with this song. I love the attitude and I love a woman who doesn't just take it but fires right back.
Songs like this one, more so than her classic are when I notice the influence she had on the Ciara's and Britney's of the world.
Carly said " got first inkling of an interest through the usual link: a lawyer. Luckily mine was on the ball and interested and quick on his feet. He called me and made mention of the fact that Janet had recorded it and was going to call it: 'Son of a Gun'. She needed sample clearance. I asked that Janet call me, and she did that night. She could not have been sweeter or more appreciative. I said I would prefer to re-record everything that might otherwise have been sampled. Why get Elektra involved and potentially hold up the process? So, Jimmy Jam sent me their tracks and I went into a local studio here on the Vineyard and recorded about 10 new tracks worth of material. The rap was spontaneous and I didn't think they would end up using it, but they did and I couldn't be happier about it. It was the kind of fun you don't necessarily count on having."
