I think Alternative will fuck them over.
Not that I'm complaining.

Whether or not you like Godsmack, there is absolutely nothing remotely "alternative" about them, at least not anymore. On their first few records, they had the occasional single that took a couple risks and wasn't just crafted to appeal to the meathead bikers and wrestling fans. I hate that heavy music doesn't have a shot on Alt anymore, but Godsmack being barred from Alt is totally fine with me. The fact that a band like Nothing More hasn't even gotten a single Alt add despite being in the top 10 on Active with a song that takes a fair number of risks and is both fresh-sounding and catchy-as-hell...that to me is a major problem.

Haven't really liked very much from these guys since the early 2000s.

Although Godsmack's not one of my favorite bands, I believe I have all of their albums as they're usually consistently good. I just find it a bit amusing how every time the band announces a new album, Sully always says it's heavier than the last one and it sounds nothing like you've ever heard before. They did experiment with some acoustic material in the past, but overall their sound has always been similar on most songs. I'd be pretty damn shocked if they did anything on Alternative with the state of the chart these days.

I actually do have their acoustic EP as I thought it was a clever way of reworking their songs. But I can't help but feel from that short clip that this was written in 2001.

Can't wait...Godsmack has rarely dissappointed with its singles. Can we finally agree that even though they started as a band, who had (and still do have) a lot of Alice In Chains influence, that their stuff (even the newer albums) is a lot better than what AiC has put out with the new singer.

I agree with you on that. Aside from "Check My Brain," "Your Decision" and "Voices," AIC's comeback run has been pretty underwhelming. Godsmack on the other hand has been a consistent band their entire career. You say that like it's a bad thing. 2001 was the golden age for the active rock format. Given it's the year I really started listening to rock radio I'm a bit nostalgic for it, but holy crap were there a lot of bad songs. Really? Other than the Limp Bizkit songs, I can't think of anything that gets that much hate.

And yes, "Butterfly" is bad enough to bring an entire year down.

I really really loved "Black Gives Way To Blue" so I can't entirely agree with that statement but aside from 'Cryin' Like A Bitch', I generally like Godsmack. I'm hoping their new album hits #1 and I can't see this song not topping Active.

Have to disagree with you. Both of AIC's newest albums are amazing in my opinion. The single choices from The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here haven't been as good, but the album tracks were really good. I am excited to hear some new Godsmack though.

I don't know man, I don't think they exclusively pander to those meathead biker types that you described. Sure, songs like "Whiskey Hangover" and "Cryin' Like a Bitch" might, but I thought songs like "Love-Hate-Sex-Pain" and "Saints and Sinners" took a bit more risk than usual and was different sounding, even if it wasn't a total deviation away from what they usually sound like.

I do like how the song tells a bit of a story of how they became a band and achieved their dream to make it big. Otherwise, there's no surprise that it sounds just like anything other Godsmack song. Good to hear them again for the first time in awhile though.

This is decent, but nothing special. It's not even in the same league as "Cryin' Like A Bitch."

Maybe I've outgrown Godsmack but this song is just alright to me. On the lower range for Godsmack lead singles.
Whatever > Awake > I Stand Alone > Speak > 1000hp > Cryin' Like A Bitch

This new song kicks ass! The only other song that I recall liking this much was "VooDoo" This new Godsmak Reminds me alot of Velvet Revolver's style. Probobly the best Rock band since Stone Temple Pilots. It's a shame Scott couldn't get a hold of himself. Anyway, Alt radio probobly won't get to much into GOdsmak, but I'll bet it goes top 5 in Active mainstream Rock.

It's a much more straightforward rock song than it is metal, which I like. It's better than "Cryin' Like a Bitch", at least.

I love a lot of Godsmack's work, and although I like "1000hp" too, I much prefer most of their other singles to it. I knew this would do great on Active.
