why didn't they release It Was Always You as the first single? They knew radio would eat up whatever they put out first no matter the quality. Gotta save the best for second.

I like It Was Always You, however I don't hear where some of you guys are hearing smash at all in that one. The hook isn't even very strong. Maps is infinitely catchier and more radio friendly and was definitely the better choice for a lead single out of those two.

It's just by far the most interesting thing they've done lately.

'It Was Always You' is probably the more interesting single, but that doesn't make it a hit. People more familiar with their discography would likely appreciate it more, but in this market 'Maps' is the better single. And, frankly, 'Maps' isn't that bad. It's grown on me a lot.

I think Maps is more of a grower than all of their post-comeback singles. I feel that with the Overexposed singles people either liked them instantly or rarely grew to like them later. Especially Payphone and Daylight.
This was instant and then grew for me, but I can see why it might be a bit polarizing for some.

Wow, I think this might have another wind. It'd be surprising if they peaked outside the top 5 after 4 top 2 singles off their last album. This isn't THAT much of a change.

This song is pretty similar to the singles from the last album and it's doing well on iTunes. I'm not calling a top two for this but a peak at #3 or #4 seems reasonable

Maroon 5 is a band that makes successful music. They don't have any "pop divas" to argue about, like in other threads. They don't have drama. They don't have the Justin Timberlake hate brigade to come and start flame wars. Nothing controversial to argue about. Nothing to post about. Maps is doing well, and selling well...no one can contest that.
Lol, last album when every M5 single was reaching number 1, or very close, no one here had anything to say.
That didn't stop them from selling millions of songs and albums, tho.
Didn't stop me from checking in all the time to see their chart position.
Definitely didn't stop me from loving their music. Including Daylight.
*shrug*

Wow, I think this might have another wind. It'd be surprising if they peaked outside the top 5 after 4 top 2 singles off their last album. This isn't THAT much of a change. Well Pop radio has been packed these past few months with huge songs (Problem, Fancy, Rude, Am I Wrong, Stay With Me, etc..) so I think its just more of those songs taking a ton of spins. I totally see this going Top 3 at the very least.

I just listened to It Was Always You and I would say it's my favourite Maroon 5 song since... maybe the second album. It didn't "wow" but me then it kind of did because it was that much better than Maps and the singles from the last record.
I feel like it would serve as a good single now that pop radio is moving in the direction of more lighter electronic songs like Rather Be.
