Wow I enjoy a lot of Terri songs.
Top: 1. She Didn't Have Time (awesome last verse. "He said I saw the car seat, I love kids. Does she have you're eyes?" The whole story is wonderful) 2. Three Mississippi (shame this sputtered out inside the top 30) 3. Northern Girl 4. I Just Wanna Be Mad 5. The One 6. Slow News Day (very underrated. Never charted) 7. Poor Poor Pitiful Me 8. The World Needs Drink (Eric Church co-write) 9. No Fear 10. A Little Gasoline 11. I'm Moving On w/ Dean Brody 12. Damn Right 13. When Boy Meets Girl 14. Better Things To Do 15. Getting There
Bottom: 1. Dirty Girl (Come on Terri, you can do better than this song) 2. Wrecking Ball 3. I Wanna Do It All (always thought this song was just painfully average. I'm not a Yankees fan either) 4. Gypsy Boots 5. Girls Lie Too (overplayed. Not really a bad song)

TOP 1. She Didn't Have Time 2. Three Mississippi 3. When Boy Meets Girl 4. A Little Gasoline 5. A Million Ways to Run 6. Poor Poor Pitiful Me 7. Emotional Girl 8. You're Easy on the Eyes 9. Damn Right 10. Better Things to Do 11. Everytime I Cry 12. I Just Wanna Be Mad 13. If I Were You (I don't remember ever hearing this one on the radio) 14. The World Needs a Drink 15. Now That I Found You
BOTTOM 1. Dirty Girl (nice to see I'm not alone on this one) 2. Gypsy Boots 3. In My Next Life (Terri trying to be Gretchen Wilson was just hard to stomach) 4. Girls Lie Too (the beta version of "Terri trying to be Gretchen Wilson") 5. I Wanna Do It All (agree that this is "painfully average")
Not familiar with most of her Canada-only releases.

TOP 1. No Fear (love, love this song) 2. Three Mississippi 3. I Just Wanna Be Mad for Awhile 4. She Didn't Have Time 5. Poor, Poor Pitiful Me 6. A Little Gasoline 7. Girls Lie Too (yeah, it's basically a gender-flipped version of "The Truth About Men," but I find it pretty funny) 7. When Boy Meets Girl 8. I've Got Better Things to Do 9. I Think The World Needs a Drink
BOTTOM 1. Dirty Girl (I remember seeing the video to this once. Once was enough).
I'm a fan of most all of her singles that I've heard but haven't explored much of her work beyond that. She's been on my "to hear more of" list for ages. To anyone who is knowledgeable of her discography, what are the best albums to start with?

How was She Didn't Have Time not huge? Didn't it set some kind of record on its debut week?

How was She Didn't Have Time not huge? Didn't it set some kind of record on its debut week? "She Didn't Have Time" debuted at #43 on Radio and Records top 50 on the chart week ending 7/29/2005. It jumped from #52 the previous week. It did seem like it was destined for a top 10 peak at that point.

4. Girls Lie Too (the beta version of "Terri trying to be Gretchen Wilson") Considering Gretchen's "Redneck Woman" came out only one month before this song, it's amazing to think she was "trying to be Gretchen Wilson." She must've made some first impression! To anyone who is knowledgeable of her discography, what are the best albums to start with? I'd go with these three: Life Goes On, Terri Clark, Pain to Kill. Really all of her albums are good, though How I Feel is my least-favorite.

I first got the chance to see Terri open for George at their '96 Kansas City concert and she put on quite the energetic show. I again saw her when she was on tour with Reba, Brooks & Dunn, and David Kersh years later.
Top: 1. If I Were You (the steel guitar and piano in this one always pulls me...and it's just a classic country music song.) 2. When Boy Meets Girl 3. No Fear 4. A Little Gasoline 5. Suddenly Single (I'm a sucker for her ballads)
Favorite Album Tracks: "Getting Even With the Blues" and "Till I Get There" from How I Feel...I thought this album would help propel her into a more A-list type of female artist but that didn't happen, no fault of her own as her follow-up was just as good and radio opted to ignore it for the most part; other top album tracks include "Twang Thang" and "Is Fort Worth Worth it"
Bottom: 1. You're Easy On the Eyes 2. Emotional Girl 3. Girls Lie Too

She must've made some first impression! Kind of a half-joking comment on that song, but my intention is that she seemed to be cultivating a "tough girl" image akin to Gretchen Wilson for a while, and "Girls Lie Too" seemed to be cut of the same cloth even though that one was likely a coincidence. However, "Dirty Girl" and "Gypsy Boots" in particular seem like she was trying WAY too hard to be Gretchen. Especially that ear-splitting, slightly off-pitch voice she uses on the latter. What was she thinking?!?

What was she thinking?!? "Dirty Girl" reminds me more of "Biker Chick" by Jo Dee Messina than anything, and I have a guilty pleasure love for that song. Similarly, I enjoy the production on DG (which is the big comparison that I draw between it and BC), though admittedly that song is one of her weakest singles. "Gypsy Boots" sounds nothing like Gretchen Wilson to me at all and it's also one of my favorite Terri Clark songs. I love the vocal she gives on it; one of her best imo. I still fail to see such a glaring, troublesome comparison between the two aside from the fact that both were probably the last of the women who also sang about what are today almost-exclusively male topics (like drinking for fun), which is a shame since theoretically both Terri and Gretchen could be welcome alternatives to all the frat boy songs on radio today, without being such a left turn as to alienate those fans of that music. At any rate though, Terri never once struck me as trying to copy anyone because though her sound obviously changed from the 90s to the 00s, it was a gradual sonic shift akin to what just about every artist experienced, and not from a contrived "I wanna be Gretchen" model. It's just unfair to fault these two women for their topical similarities any more than say implying Carrie Underwood is trying to be the new Martina McBride because she's got a big voice and often likes to use it on inspirational ballads. This need to have only one artist fitting in such a small box and not approving of similar artists co-existing in the same space with them is a part of the problem for women at country radio right now.

I myself also like the production of "Dirty Girl" and it sounds like classic Terri versus someone she is trying copy. I've never taken Terri for following a specific trend and has always done what she likes. DG is just a fun tongue-in-cheek kind of song that is meant to be nothing more than that. I still like it :)
