www.billboard.com/articles/news/6121606/jack-whites-lazaretto-debuts-at-no-1-sets-vinyl-sales-record Jack White's 'Lazaretto' Debuts at No. 1, Sets Vinyl Sales RecordBy Keith Caulfield, L.A. | June 18, 2014 Rocker Jack White claims his second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, as "Lazaretto" bows in the top slot with 138,000 sold in the week ending June 15, according to NielsenSoundScan. The effort follows his solo debut, "Blunderbuss," which also opened atop the list and sold 138,000 in its first frame. (It sold a handful of copies less, actually, but when rounded to the nearest thousand, both figures become 138,000.) "Lazaretto" — released on White's Third Man Records label through Columbia Records — also sets the record for the largest sales week for a vinyl album since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. The vinyl LP sold 40,000 copies — easily enough to debut at No. 1 on Billboard's Vinyl Albums chart. (The vinyl edition of the album has many unusual bonus features that clearly intriguedconsumers.) It beats the debut of Pearl Jam's "Vitalogy," which sold 34,000 vinyl LPs in its first week, back in 1994. (Notably, "Vitalogy" was issued on vinyl first, two weeks before its release on CD and cassette.) "This is my proudest moment with Third Man Records, this object," White said of the LP to Conan O'Brien during an appearance on "Conan" on June 11. During some of his recent TV appearances White has described some of the unique qualities the vinyl piece contains, like how the LP plays at three different speeds, the tracks it has hidden under the center label (that are playable) and how side A plays from the inside to the outside of the disc. To put the sales of the vinyl"Lazaretto" in further perspective, the configuration on its own would have ranked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 this week. In total, vinyl LP sales of “Lazaretto” accounted for 28.9 percent of the album's first-week sales — nearly beating the number of CDs that were sold (41,000; 30 percent of the album's debut). Downloads were 41.1 percent. Aside from White, the top of the Billboard 200 is pretty sleepy, with the next-highest new entry landing at No. 12: Passenger's "Whispers." It's the act's highest-charting album and, with 19,000 sold, its best sales week yet. Back in the top 10, Miranda Lambert's "Platinum" slips to No. 2 with 62,000 (down 65 percent) while the soundtrack to "Frozen" is also down one rung, to No. 3 with 50,000 (down 4 percent). Brantley Gilbert's "Just As I Am" dips 3-4 with 40,000 (down 18 percent), and the soundtrack to "The Fault in Our Stars" climbs to a new peak (8-5) with 38,000 (up 5 percent). It's the best sales week so far for the "Fault" soundtrack. "Now 50" holds at No. 6 with 34,000 (down 17 percent), Coldplay's "Ghost Stories" descends 5-7 with just under 34,000 (down 26 percent), and The Black Keys' "Turn Blue" rises 13-8 with 26,000 (up 9 percent). Michael Jackson's "Xscape" returns to the top 10, climbing 12-9 with 25,000 (down 2 percent), and "Now That's What I Call Country: Volume 7" hits the top 10 in its second week, rising 11-10 with 22,000 (down 26 percent). Overall album sales during this past chart week (ending June 15) totaled 4.6 million units, up 2 percent compared with the sum last week (4.5 million) and down 12 percent compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (5.3 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 112 million, down 15 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (131.5 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2013 when: Kanye West's "Yeezus" debuted at No. 1 with 327,000 and J. Cole's "Born Sinner" entered at No. 2 with 297,000.

www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.29315/title.hip-hop-album-sales-week-ending-06-15-2014Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 06/15/2014 by Andres Tardio posted June 18, 2014 Michael Jackson's "Xscape" lands in the Top 10, 50 Cent's "Animal Ambition" falls out of the Top 10 and Iggy Azalea's "The New Classic" falls out of the Top 20. Following a strong first week in the Top 5, 50 Cent's Animal Ambition has dropped out of the Top 10 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums this week. Still, Animal Ambition remains the top Rap album on the chart. Michael Jackson's Xscape has the top R&B album of the week and Iggy Azalea's The New Classic is the third best Rap or R&B effort on the chart. Elsewhere on the chart, Murs and MAYDAY! debuted on the chart with Mursday coming in at #45. The effort sold 8,024 units in its first week of availability. Ice-T's Body Count also debuted on the chart this week with Manslaughter. The effort sold 3,624 units to land at #102. Michael Jackson's Xscape Rises To #9 Michael Jackson's Xscape appears at #9 on the list. The album came up from #12 last week. The effort sold 24,861 units this week compared to 25,358 units last week. This was a 2 percent decrease in sales. This may not be the last of the posthumous Jackson albums, according to a recent Rolling Stone report. "Michael Jackson's estate managed to bring the late star back to life, sort of, with an unnerving onstage pseudo-hologram at May 18th's Billboard Music Awards – and that's just the beginning of its ambitious plans for his career, which could include as many as eight more albums culled from outtakes and repackaged material," the Rolling Stone report says. 50 Cent's Animal Ambition Falls To #15 50 Cent's Animal Ambition has fallen to #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Animal Ambition sold 17,118 copies this week, a 63 percent decrease in sales from more than 46,600 units sold last week. Overall, 50 has sold 63,846 copies of the album. 50 Cent recently spoke on his expectations regarding sales. "I know I can’t actually have the success I’ve had in the past," 50 Cent said. "It’s impossible…This is the warm up…I put this record out to cut through the cloud of my audience's mind, success. Some people are not conditioned or prepared for success. And it’s an adjustment. If you leave the environment thinking the exact same way you were in the environment chances are you won’t be successful. You have to make some adjustments as you actually go. Inquiring new information. Being exposed to different situations is what allows me to continue to do it, but if you don’t do it you’ll forget about it. The people, they’re gon’ bring you back. They gonna pull you back." This wasn't the only 50 Cent album on the Billboard Top 200 this week. The rapper's debut album, Get Rich Or Die Tryin', also made the list, selling 2,229 units to come in at #199. Overall, 50 has sold 8,271,176 copies of the effort. Iggy Azalea's The New Classic Falls Out Of Top 20 Iggy Azalea's The New Classic earns the #22 spot on this list. The album sold 14,781 units this week, a 16 percent decrease in sales from 17,599 units last week. Overall, The New Classic has moved 177,983 units. In October 2013, Azalea spoke with DX about the effort. "The New Classic is me trying to experiment with new sounds as much as I can in the environment that I’m in," he said at the time. "It’s me trying to think about the sounds I hear in music now and which ones will stick around. I’m thinking about what will be the sound of our generation, Hip Hop and sampling, and Electronic music versus old Soul records and Blues music. I’m thinking about how [the term] classic can evolve throughout the eras. Look at how classic has evolved in art to the point where we have all these classic eras. I think we’ll have different eras in Hip Hop, and what’s sonically classic in this generation may be sampled 20 years from now. What if they want to re-do our sound? It’s the type of thing that makes you question why we’re so nostalgic for different eras. Why do we think other eras are so great and get stuck in this mentality of, 'It was so great then, and what we have now is complete shit?' I tried to think about sending a time capsule to the future with my reflection of all the things I think are the coolest now." Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 06/15/2014 #9. ^It was pretty close the first week. And, unlike the Black Keys' album, Xscape has spawned a top 10 hit on the Hot 100, so that helps. :)

Country album sales this week: www.roughstock.com/blog/country-music-s-top-10-albums-the-week-of-june-18-2014Country Music's Top 10 Albums: The Week Of June 18, 2014 By: Matt Bjorke Last Updated: June 18, 2014 12:06 PM Miranda Lambert Remains #1 this week with “Platinum.” Miranda Lambert scored another 62k this week with “Platinum,” giving the Reigning ACM and CMA Female Vocalist of the Year yet another week in the pole position of the chart, outselling #2 Brantley Gilbert (with “Just As I Am”) by more than 22k copies. at #3 is the seventh volume of the “Now! That’s What I Call Country!” series and at #4 is Luke Bryan with “Crash My Party” experiencing a sales boost cause of Father’s Day and an iTunes Sale. Florida Georgia Line’s “Here’s To The Good Times” rounds out the Top 5 yet again, with a slight sales increase. Blake Shelton “Based On A True Story” & Dierks Bentley “Riser” inside Top 10 thanks to Father’s Day Sales. Leading the second half of the Top 10 is Eric Church’s “The Outsiders,” the album too benefitted from the same sales as Luke Bryan’s album. In fact so did Blake Shelton at #8 with “Based On A True Story” and Dierks Bentley’s “Riser” at #910. Sitting at #7 is Rascal Flatts’ “Rewind” and at #9 with only a slight sales drop of 2% is Big Smo’s “Kuntry Livin’” Joining Colt Ford as one of the few “Rural Rappers” (or Country Rap) to score consecutive placements inside the Top 10! No doubt his TV debut last week of “The Big Smo Show” helped him retain a solid sales figure. Notable albums include Hunter Hayes’ “Storyline,” Cole Swindell’s self-titled debut and more. Lucy Hale’s “Road Between” and Hunter Hayes’ Storyline lead the notables this week with another 5k added to each of their album’s sales totals ( 24k & 113k to date, respectively). Kacey Musgraves’ high profile CMT Crossroads performance with KATY Perry helped “Same Trailer Different Park” gain 55% over last week bringing the album to 430k scanned while Cole Swindell’s self-titled debut sold another 5k too, as did Jake Owen’s “Days Of Gold” and Johnny Cash’s “Out Among The Stars.” Those two benefitting from a Father’s Day sales boost as well. Meanwhile, Scotty McCreery’s album has sold between 1,000-2,000 more copies than it did last week while Danielle Bradberry’s and Cassadee Pope’s albums have sold between 500-1,000 albums (each) last week. :)

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-vinyl-boosts-jack-white-185353230.htmlChart Watch: Vinyl Boosts Jack WhiteBy Paul Grein - Chart Watch Jack White's Lazaretto sold 40K vinyl copies this week. It's the largest one-week sales tally for a vinyl album since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking music sales in 1991. The old record was set in 1994, when Pearl Jam's Vitalogy sold 34K vinyl copies. Lazaretto sold nearly as many vinyl copies as it did CDs (42K) or digital copies (57K). The album sold more vinyl copies this week than any other album has for the year-to-date. Arctic Monkeys's AM is in second place for the year-to-date with sales of 23K vinyl copies. Beck's Morning Phase is third (21K). White's previous album, Blunderbuss, sold 34K vinyl copies in all of 2012. It was that year's top-selling vinyl album. The Lion King soundtrack has sold 1,043,000 vinyl copies, more than any other album on Nielsen SoundScan's running list of the best-selling overall albums in its history. It is followed by the Beatles's Abbey Road (212K vinyl copies in the Nielsen SoundScan era), Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon (105K), Pearl Jam's Vitalogy (93K), U2's Achtung Baby (76K) and Michael Jackson's Thriller (73K). Other albums not on that list but with high vinyl totals include Bon Iver's For Emma Forever Ago (95K) and Mumford & Sons's Sigh No More (93K). Lazaretto is White's second solo album. Both have entered The Billboard 200 at #1. His first solo album, Blunderbuss, debuted at #1 in April 2012 and went on to receive a Grammy nomination as Album of the Year. (Both albums sold 138K copies in their first week, a striking show of consistency.) White is the first artist with that surname to land two #1 albums. Barry White (no relation) had one: 1974's Can't Get Enough. Lazaretto is the ninth top 10 album of White's career. He had had three top 10 albums with The White Stripes, two with The Raconteurs and two with The Dead Weather. By coincidence, White has also won nine Grammys, in an impressive range of capacities. In addition to five Grammys as an artist, he has won one each as a songwriter (for The White Stripes's "Seven Nation Army"), a producer (for Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose), an engineer (for The Raconteurs's Consolers Of The Lonely) and even an art director (for a limited edition box set of the White Stripes's Under Great White Northern Lights). Lazaretto is also #1 on Top Digital Albums. Blunderbuss also topped the digital chart. Miranda Lambert's Platinum dips from #1 to #2 in its second week. It's #1 on Top Country Albums for the second week. It's the first album by a female country artist to spend two frames at #1 country since Jennifer Nettles's That Girl in January. The Frozen soundtrack dips from #2 to #3. The Fault In Our Stars jumps from #8 to #5. This marks the first time that two soundtracks have appeared in the top five simultaneously since January 2013, when Les Miserables and Pitch Perfect were in the top five at the same time. Frozen has sold 2,616,000 copies so far this year (on top of 338K copies it sold in the last five weeks of 2013.) If it doesn't sell another copy, it has already sold more copies in 2014 than Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience sold in all of 2013 (2,427,000). That was last year's best-selling album. Frozen logs its 29th consecutive week at #1 on Top Soundtracks. Charli XCX's "Boom Clap," the lead single from The Fault In Our Stars, is already in the top 10 on Hot Digital Songs. The song jumps from #16 to #9 in its third week on that chart. Now Country 7 jumps from #11 to #10 in its second week. It's the third Now Country album to make the top 10. This is the 56th album in the Now franchise to reach the top 10. This grand total includes all 50 regular numbered albums, three country albums, two Christmas albums and a collection of #1 hits. "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX holds at #1 on Top Digital Songs for the fourth week (226K). Will it also hold at #1 on the Hot 100 for the fourth week? I believe it will. You'll find out for sure later today when we post my first of two Chart Watch Songs blogs. Here's a recap of this week's top 10 albums. The Top Five: Jack White's Lazaretto debuts at #1 (138K). It's his second top 10 album as a solo artist ... Miranda Lambert's Platinum dips from #1 to #2 in its second week (62K) … The Frozen soundtrack dips from #2 to #3 in its 29th week (50K). This is its 27th week in the top 10 … Brantley Gilbert's Just As I Am dips from #3 to #4 in its fourth week (40K). It has been in the top five the entire time … The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack jumps from #8 to #5 in its fourth week (38K). This is its third week in the top 10. The Second Five: Now 50 holds at #6 for the fourth week in its sixth week (34K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time …Coldplay's Ghost Stories drops from #5 to #7 in its fourth week (34K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time … The Black Keys's Turn Blue rebounds from #13 to #8 in its fifth week (26K). This is its fourth week in the top 10 … Michael Jackson's Xscape rebounds from #12 to #9 in its fifth week (25K). This is its fourth week in the top 10 … Now Country 7 jumps from #11 to #10 in its second week (22K). Four albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Led Zeppelin's 1969 debut album, Led Zeppelin, drops from #7 to #16. It holds at #1 on Top Catalog Albums for the second week. The band's two other deluxe reissues also drop out of the top 10 this week. Led Zeppelin II drops from #9 to #20. Led Zeppelin III drops from #10 to #21. Also dropping out: 50 Cent's Animal Ambition: An Untamed Desire To Win, which drops from #4 to #15. Passenger's fifth studio album, Whispers, debuts at #12. It's his second chart album. All The Little Lights (which spawned his sleeper smash "Let Her Go") reached #26 … O.A.R.'s eighth studio album, The Rockville LP, debuts at #13. It's the rock band's third album in a row to make the top 15 … Rebelution's fourth studio album, Count Me In, debuts at #14. It's the reggae band's second top 20 album. HellYeah's fourth studio album, Blood For Blood, debuts at #18. All four have made the top 20 … Colbie Caillat's Gypsy Heart Side A, a digital-only EP, debuts at #32. It's the highest-charting of her four EPs. Chrissie Hynde's Stockholm debuts at #36. This is the first solo album by the woman who led The Pretenders to three top 10 albums from 1980 through 1984. The Pretenders first cracked the top 40 in March 1980. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. Amazingly, they never won a Grammy. They were nominated as Best New Artist of 1980, but lost to Christopher Cross. Hedwig and the Angry Inch debuts at #61, following Neil Patrick Harris's Tony win for Best Performance By An Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical. It enters Top Cast Albums at #1, displacing If/Then: A New Musical, which stars Idina Menzel. The Who's Quadrophenia—Live In London enters Top Music Videos at #1 (3K). The band's Quadrophenia album reached #2 on The Billboard 200 in November 1973. It was the group's first album to climb that high on the chart. (The group reached #2 again with 1978's Who Are You, but never made it to #1.) Coming Attractions: Look for Lana Del Rey's Ultraviolence to debut at #1 next week, with sales in the 175K range. Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour will probably debut at #2 (140K). Linkin Park's The Hunting Party is eyeing a #3 debut (110K). Also due: Deadmau5's while (1<2) (around #6), Jennifer Lopez's A.K.A. (around #10), Willie Nelson's Band Of Brothers (around #12) and Tiesto's A Town Called Paradise.

Sixty catalog albums on the BB 200- what is this, December? That's probably the highest number since the Dec. 28 chart.

Sixty catalog albums on the BB 200- what is this, December? That's probably the highest number since the Dec. 28 chart. Why is it? A light release schedule so far this year? Labels only releasing albums from minor acts... Waiting for the big acts this Fall... Or has streaming really cut into current album sales?

Yes to all of that I think
Streaming is not something I can ever really embrace because I don't like paying to "rent" music.

Good lord - how did the Lion King sell over a million copies on Vinyl? That many people in 1994 still owned record players?

That's quite a gap between Lion King and the No. 2 vinyl seller. And that tally for TLK is a little perplexing. Wikipedia doesn't note a vinyl release in 1994 which doesn't mean anything, honestly; a vinyl picture disc was issued in the 2000s, but it was very limited.

Wikipedia doesn't note a vinyl release in 1994 which doesn't mean anything, honestly; a vinyl picture disc was issued in the 2000s, but it was very limited. It was released on Vinyl in 1994, but who in the world knew it sold that many copies? The Limited Edition disc was released in 2003, I believe.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/retail/6128656/chart-moves-soundtracks-rule-tony-awards-spur-67-cast-album-salesChart Moves: Soundtracks Rule, Tony Awards Spur 67% Cast Album Sales Gains By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | June 20, 2014 This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, Jack White tallied his second No. 1 album as "Lazaretto" debuted at No. 1 with 138,000 copies sold in the week ending June 15. He also made big news with the vinyl edition of the set, selling 40,000 copies -- a record week for a vinyl album since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991. Let's take a look at some of the chart's other movers and shakers: -- Soundtrack, "The Fault In Our Stars" - No. 5 - With the album's ascent (moving 8-5; up 5 percent to 38,000 -- its best week yet), it joins the "Frozen" soundtrack in the top five (it's No. 2). Thus, we have two movie soundtracks in the top five for the first time since the Jan. 26, 2013-dated list ("Les Miserables," No. 3 and "Pitch Perfect," No. 5). -- Various Artists, "Now That's What I Call Country 7" - No. 10 - Despite a 26 percent sales decline, the set reaches the top 10 (up one slot in its second week), becoming the 56th "Now That's What I Call Music"-branded album to reach the region. Related Articles -- Chrissie Hynde, "Stockholm" - No. 36 - Hynde's solo debut comes 34 years to the month after her band the Pretenders was in the top 40 of both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100 with their self-titled debut album and first hit single, "Brass In Pocket (I'm Special)," respectively. -- Original Broadway Cast Recording, "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" - No. 61 - One can count on the annual Tony Awards to spark sales of cast recordings, and this year’s kudocast was no exception. The 2014 Tony Awards aired on June 8 and performances from shows like “Aladdin,” “Wicked,” “If/Then” and “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” In total, cast album sales grew by 67 percent in the two weeks ending June 15 according to Nielsen SoundScan, as compared to the two weeks previous (87,000 vs. 52,000). The highest-ranking cast album on the latest Billboard 200 is the original Broadway cast recording of “Hedwig and the Ingry Inch,” starring new Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris. It leads four cast albums on the chart, and it debuts at No. 61, selling 6,000. The new “Hedwig” album follows its initial off-Broadway cast recording (released in 1999; 99,000 sold to date) and its 2001 movie adaptation’s soundtrack (117,000). Neither album has charted on the Billboard 200. -- Various Artists, "One Love, One Rhythm…" - No. 124 - Following the opening of the World Cup on June 12, the soccer tournament's official album shoots back onto the list with a 96 percent sales gain, selling 3,000 for the week. Its total sales stand at 15,000 after five weeks. -- Boston, "Greatest Hits" - No. 130 - Venue sales of the 1997 album at stops along the band's tour prompts the set's return, selling 3,000 for the week (up 316 percent). -- Zac Brown Band, "The Foundation" - No. 142 - The album reaches its 268th week on the chart, tying it with "The Phantom of the Opera: Highlights" for the sixth-longest run on the chart since it started using SoundScan data in May, 1991. -- Original Broadway Cast Recording, "Violet" - No. 197 - The show, nominated for four Tony Awards, is one of two Broadway cast albums to debut this week. ("If/Then" is the other, at No. 19.) "Violet" garnered its star Sutton Foster her sixth Tony nomination, for actress in a leading role in a musical.
