Hello! As you'll see in the Country News & Non-Singles Discussion forum and on this thread in the pop forum, we're beginning to use and test out thread labels, which are built into ProBoards v5 (unbeknownst to me until recently, ha). While labels unfortunately can't be made upon thread creation - they're in the backend and only creatable by staff - they could still be useful for tagging certain threads in the genre forum, and it can be set up such that non-staff members could apply pre-made tags to threads. My initial idea to include the impact date there would be somewhat cumbersome due to the fact that I'd have to go in and add a tag for every week before anyone could even apply it. However, they might be better suited for things like chart positions - either marking milestones passed ("Top 50;" "#1") or current chart positions (though that'd require constant updating). For those of you who frequent the genre forums, what else could be done to make them useful? How would you like to see them used? Any ideas regarding label usage in other forums (e.g. Games) is welcome as well.

It's a cool feature/idea but not really needed IMO. Kind of makes things look cluttered.

Milestones is probably the better idea for this. Just putting 'Top 50' or '#1' or whatever makes it look less cluttered, which the impact date kind of does. The date's a little too long. 'Impacts 7/15' might look better, but it will still look cluttered. Chart milestones is probably your best bet.
You could even do what number the song is on the Top 40 on the published chart at the end of the week. It might be a little more work though. Example: '#12 MKTO - "Classic"'

I noticed them in the country forum earlier and I thought it was really nifty. Definitely a nice idea and it looks pretty nice and I believe it was utilized well.

only staff can do this? it may seem like a minor thing now but if you do this for all threads this could quickly become more of a headache for you guys (or US guys, coughsignmypetitioncough) than it's worth. especially for things which the thread creator could easily put in the title or first post and edit as needed. that would just render the label redundant.
at least in theory though, this could be a really nice and useful idea, so don't take my hesitation as an outright rejection of it. it seems really well-executed in the country news section, for sure, and i think could be good for the album threads. for singles threads however i feel that it has a fairly large chance of becoming overwhelming.

The only nice thing I saw about the label was that it also serves as a clickable filter for those chart nazis who are looking for every song that went top 10 or so.
Still, as Cynthia said it seems like a lot of work that will exclusively fall on the CHR/Pop moderators (I don't think any mods even go to the urban forum? So they'd be effectively left out). I could see the label feature being useful in the Games forum for something like "Mafia", "Danger Zone', "Survivor" or whatever I guess? I just really don't think we need to get label happy, and Adam made a good point too that it would only effectively add clutter to the forums. For the CHR/Pop forum specifically, I could see several songs falling under a lot of different labels, which could lead to a conflict of interest.
I think if it is something that is to be effectively implemented, it shouldn't be used liberally.

Perhaps it could be used just as it was in the Country forum with labels for Archives, Charts, Countdowns, Predictions, and What The Chart Would Look Like If... types of threads versus putting in information labels for chart positions or other other milestones because that could become really complicated and possibly messy if not maintained. Unless someone whose job is just to label everything is selected.
