I am shocked at Trey but happy, i was expecting half of that. Robin Thicke will always love his voice, but I'm so over this whole self serving campaign and him using his personal life and mingling it with the music, so he can sit there with 20k for all I care. Is Paula even here for all this talking about her life?

Yes, the win-back-his-wife campaign has been a big flop with the public, critics, and, probably, Ms. Paula Patton.

Damn, that's a huge tumble for Sheeran. But I guess this is the result of months of pre-order.

Yes, the win-back-his-wife campaign has been a big flop with the public, critics, and, probably, Ms. Paula Patton. If "Paula" hits 10 and not 11, all that will be remembered is that RT nabbed a Top 10 album dedicated to getting his wife back. Sales are never put in context or remembered by public. Those of us who follow industry know it's a major flop, but if people hear Top 10 album, not-so-much.

Meh... I hoped for a better 2nd week sales for Ed. :( Ed's 2nd week drop is normal. He also doesn't have a 2nd single at radio. "Don't" goes for adds on July 15.

Outside of "Blurred Lines," Robin Thicke has never been all that popular. I hate to say I agree with you, but I do. It's a much deserving placement. I don't see a problem with that quite honestly. I mean people have done worse than try to make up mistakes they made previously.... It certainly more respectable than getting naked on a wrecking ball... or trying to sexualize religious imagery for sales. I actually think it's appropriate for him to release an album to get back his wife after he let fame and success go to his head and hurt his wife. I don't even believe it's genuine; I think he saw an angle to keep himself in the press. To that end, it has worked. But as we've seen with countless people, press doesn't necessarily translate into sales.

Granted, his people and label will grab onto whatever makes it not look like a flop so they'll use the "top 10 album" thing if they can, but most music bloggers and entertainment journalists know better and will use context in relation to the album's achievements.

Robin's destroyed his reputation in the past year. He went from a has-been to having one of the most massive hits ever to being the most hated man in pop. Why? Cause Miley twerked on his bulge? And he was hardly a hasbeen before.

Everybody got all on my case when i said last year I much prefered the other Robin, than "Blurred Lines" and publicity seeking over the top, money chasing Robin. i guess now he knows why I said, its okay to seek out crossover appeal as long as it stays organic to who you are as a person and performer. Something about Robin felt like music was becoming secondary to fame and that has turned me off, but the final seal of disgust of course is how he is using his relationship as a tool for attention like he done graduated from the Lopez institute of media training.

To go from a No. 1 album to "just" a top 10 album- by the skin of its teeth- is a pretty big decline from one album o the next. In any event, we'll see what the final numbers show.
It's true, though that some just hear a peak ranking and think something's a big hit, when a closer look may tell a different story.

Something is so rancid when it falls out like that overnight. Its so hard to lose the public over personality and personal life, so you know its bad.

Or the Mariah Carey media institute of media training... Butterflies, to Emancipation, to the latest album... LOL! Divas do this all the time and no one says a word when they do it. It's not like it's just Jennifer Lopez, it's Mariah, Beyonce, Tayolor, Kelly, Miranda, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, JayZ (or any other rapper) the feeling goes on and on and on. LMAO! Nothing separates Robin from anyone else in the music industry in this regard.

Massive difference between what RT is doing and what all of those female artists that you listed have done. What is it? The ladies you mentioned use their relationships/experiences with love/lust/whatever to write songs that people can relate to without flat-out calling someone out by name. Thicke made an album that was titled "Paula," publicly announced private and personal matters to everyone, is essentially (and from what can be inferred by the listeners) making this way more difficult for Patton herself because she had to deal with his cheating scandals in the public eye and now has to deal with her separation in such a widespread medium, and to top it all off, if what has been told is true, he has an upcoming video of little children re-enacting his and Patton's wedding.

Robin's destroyed his reputation in the past year. He went from a has-been to having one of the most massive hits ever to being the most hated man in pop. In other words, he is a one hit wonder outside the urban radio fan base. I always thought the guy had little talent and other than producing racy videos to get attention, his music is forgettable. I will give him Blurred Lines which was probably a hit due more to the writing (probably more by Pharrell than Robin).

There is a vast difference between someone like Mary J Blige taking her life turmoils going into a studio and pouring her heart and soul out on a record. What Robin Thicke is essentially doing is making himself and her life into a reality tv show disguised as music. The # campaign on twitter is essentially one of the cheapest gimmicky ploys I have seen yet for a album roll out, and on a human level how disgusting that his marriage and Paula is a tool for $$$. I seen some of his interviews and nothing even seems genuine. He may or not want to win her back but how he is doing it is a tad facetious.

A one hit wonder is an artist with one hit usually. Regardless of what people think of the Blurred Lines follow up songs, he did have Lost Without U in 2007.
The album decline is due to the nature of the album. This is a "have pity on me and buy my album so I can win Paula back" album and not album written to generate hits and sell songs.
The current approach is not working, an album written under normal circumstances would have had a better response.

I'm not really sure how to add to this RT conversation apart from the fact that it is such a shame that he is so unable to capitalize on his polarization. This thread is popping with interest about the album, and even though its negative, at least we are all talking about it.
But NO ONE is buying that mess.
I also like whoever said he's turning it into a reality tv show. I love reality tv, but this is just awful!

Yeah, it's rather obvious what the difference is between what RT is doing and everyone else. It's one thing to write about your personal experiences, but this tactic is so beyond that. Maybe a certain poster just likes to stir the pot some- wild theory, I know.
