I have spent the morning jamming to anything and everything Chris Stapleton (in reality the last few months) and with his one and only single considered a commercial "flop" (regardless of how great it was) it got me to thinking the subject question. When I mean "done" I am theorizing that their labels will not release another single to radio for them
Those that really come to mind for me are:
Kelleigh Bannen----such a talent but with the flop of "Famous" and the underwhelming charting of a great song in "Hope on the Rocks" I don't see EMI giving her another chance at radio.
Charlie Worsham----This guys album is incredible and dare I say one of the best albums of 2013 but I feel as his "Want Me Too" failing to make a mark at radio and his style not a complete fit to current radio I don't know if he gets another chance
Chris Stapleton----Aforementioned. Best voice in Nashville, to me, period. Again another huge talent that just doesn't resonate with the younger crowd. He is respected amongst his peers and the older country audience but his skills are underseen by the youngsters that would rather embrace the party theme of music.

I'm sadly thinking Toby Keith. I doubt that his label would decide against releasing any more of his stuff to radio, considering it's his label. I think you didn't really understand what the original poster was going for with this thread, lol.

Putting himself out of his own misery?
I clearly can't read.
If Easton Corbin were on this list, I'd be quite angry!

Felt like digging up an old thread. Here are a few I speculate
Gloriana- Oh gosh these guys can't sell this and it scares me how much money was put into Trouble. Maybe one last try next year for a new lead song but it'll really need to sell and I doubt it.
The Swon Brothers Man the digital sales here are worse and I can see them getting dropped
The Henningsens (how do u spell this name) Another group that sells bad and maybe they'll do decent with one last song.
For all 3 of these acts it's one last time or it's over.

The first two acts that come to my mind are Rascal Flatts and Lady Antebellum. I just happen to think it's going to be harder for them to achieve the type of success they have in pervious years, although a top 10 hit here or there wouldn't be out of the question for their next release. I thought "Riot" was a great song, and if that can't make it I'm not sure what will work for RF. Lady A has been struggling the past two era's, and unfortunately they probably dropped the ball with their Golden release and left some good songs on the table all because the label freaked out after "Goodbye Town" missed the top ten by a hair. They did themselves no favor with "Freestyle" in this era and that really put the nail in the coffin for this current album.

Do I think Rascal Flatts are done? More than likely. I still believe Payback was an awful single choice. But maybe they'll get one more successful album era. Lady A is the most difficult. I've noticed that if they have Hillary on lead like Bartender or Downtown but when Charles comes in it really kills the momentum like Goodbye Town or Freestyle. I think the next album cycle will indicate if Lady A can regain some of their momentum.

Don't necessarily want to say these artists are "done", but their time is fading
Gary Allan- because he's old and makes country music (Hangover Tonight is debatable), two negatives.
Josh Turner- not old, but too mature for country radio. If you want to use the real definition of "outlaw", Josh is the only one who fits that description in Nashville
George Strait- ("Well no sh*t Zack!")
Rascal Flatts (already mentioned above)

They just aren't going to see much success at mainstream country radio.

I'll agree on Rascal Flatts, but that's all on Borchetta because I think there's actually space for them to keep having hits, they just overproduce everything these days and the label has horrendous single choices for them.

I honestly think Lauren Alaina will never break out :'( Thompson Square probably as well :( I have to point out that Thompson square had two no.1s I think they just lost the momentum from everything I shouldn't be thinking about taking so long to go top 5. And trans am poor chart performance. The problem with both t2 and Lauren is the lack of promotion for both. They're both not getting enough promotion like they did when they started.

And trans am poor chart performance. The problem with both t2 and Lauren is the lack of promotion for both. They're both not getting enough promotion like they did when they started. That is true that Thompson Square had a couple No.1s but the release of Trans Am has really killed any momentum they might have had from "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About" (the other two released afterwards were such non starters I don't really count them). I do think Thompson Square has one last shot at re establishing their momentum before they are officially irrelevant. As for Lauren Alaina well, she hasn't gotten higher than 28 on the AirPlay chart and they've tried now 5 times. I do think Lauren might get one last chance since her label UMG Nashville really hasn't had a female solo singer break out (that's probably why Kelleigh Bannen and Mickey Guyton are still there as well although with Mickey Guyton she's only had one song so far). But Lauren Alaina can't seem to get any momentum going whatsoever.

Makes me feel old that so many of the artists who were major A-listers when I was growing up are now either done or past their peak (Alan Jackson, George Strait, Martina McBride, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, etc.). It's like when the athlete you grew up idolizing is now retired and in the Hall of Fame.

In my opinion, they aren't as huge as they once were. They're certainly not "done" though. First thing's first and that's picking the correct singles to stick around (not "Payback"). But they aren't as big as the were in the mid 2000's, were they could do no wrong from 2003-2007.

Since this thread was bumped, I wanted to chime in.
Kelleigh Bannen has done multiple Periscope's in the last few months. She has tried to get new music out there, not just to radio, but to get on iTunes. Her label seems to be the hold up. She has played a lot of new material on Periscope but never gives out a release date, if one will ever be announced.

Radio will play songs they think are hits. If the artists have enough promo muscles behind them, that means anything can be a hit. Just takes the right songs. So technically, nobody -- especially name superstars -- are ever truly "Done" at radio. Just highly unlikely to have big hits.
