This is cute. It isn't anything huge to me yet--I expected this to have the love it/hate it reaction I get with most Taylor songs, but this falls more middlingly positive for now--and I agree that the bridge sucks, but I can also see how that chorus might worm its way into my playlists. We'll see, but a nice start.
I'm kind of thrilled to see her give country the finger right now. I think she's far more interesting as a pop star. Though there's something about this--maybe just the video--that feels a tad try-hard for someone who is already one of the biggest pop stars in the world. Like, it's everything a pop song should have, and that would have felt more fitting for her first foray into pop music, but she already did that with mostly more interesting results (barring "22") with Red. I don't know, we'll see if that feeling sticks after some more listens.

On first listen, this is easily my least favorite lead single of hers. It's cute and all, but it just doesn't sound like first single material. I'm sure I'll be completely obsessed with it by tomorrow, though.
The video is adorable.

The song is REALLY good.
As for the video, I just like it.
I agree that the song's ending drags on more than it had to. Overall, good POP material.

I don't think she has abandoned country, she wants to do what her heart tells her to do now, as she said she's been listening to the music she wants to channel on her record. Who knows if she'll continue like this or go back to country later... it will be interesting to see.
I'll use this tomorrow in my exercise routine. Must be great for that. :)

Just heard this on the radio, so it seems to be getting lots of instant impact spins. I guess I'll be the first to point out that the first two lines of the chorus are basically straight from a 3LW flop from 2001?  Taylor's song is the better of the two though. It's certainly one of the catchiest pop songs I've heard in awhile and my first impression was easily more favorite than when I first heard her other pure pop songs like "IKYWT" or "22". Hard to tell what I'll think of it in the long run though; I can see myself either liking it a lot or finding it very annoying 50 listens from now. |
