Not sure if Brit would have played 4th fiddle to Xtinas lead at that time tho. But she can def hit Myas notes and would have made for a better time capsule of the hit solo ladies of that era.

Variety: Britney Spears 2002 Film ‘Crossroads’ Returning to Theaters for Global Fan Event

Cinemas are looking to pop stars to save the box office this October.

Weeks after the debut of Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” concert film, the 2002 coming-of-age movie “Crossroads” — the first feature to star Britney Spears — will return to theaters. It’s playing for just two nights, on Oct. 23 and 25, as part of fan event from Trafalgar Releasing, Sony Music Entertainment and RCA Records. The theatrical re-release is tied to Spears’ upcoming memoir, “The Woman in Me,” which drops on Oct. 24.

“Crossroads” will play in 875 locations across 24 countries and will include a bonus sing-along of two Spears songs that were part of the film but have never been seen on the big screen. The re-release will also include the launch of a “Crossroads” merchandise line featuring movie-inspired tops, sweats and jackets, along with recreations of wardrobe pieces worn by the cast in the film.

“We are excited to […] create an opportunity for fans to enjoy this highly sought after film in cinemas, and to rally in support of Britney telling her story in her upcoming memoir release,” said Marc Allenby, CEO of Trafalgar Releasing.

Shonda Rhimes, who went on to create “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal,” wrote “Crossroads” which was directed by Tamra Davis. The story follows three childhood friends, Lucy (Spears), Kit (Zoë Saldana) and Mimi (Taryn Manning), who, after eight years apart, rediscover their friendship on a cross-country trip. “Crossroads” originally premiered in 2002 and, despite negative reviews, grossed $61 million globally.

“I recently rewatched ‘Crossroads’ and was so enthralled with the time capsule of nostalgia that this incredible ensemble cast brings to the screen,” Davis said. “Britney is absolutely breathtaking to watch, and Shonda is showing us her early expertise in writing complicated female characters. We had the best time in the world making this picture and the connection the actresses bring to their performances shows in every frame. I’m so grateful that ‘Crossroads’ will be available so people can see Britney shine again.”

While this “Global Fan Event” will by no means storm the box office like T.Swift, it should hopefully be successful enough to pave the way for a new home video release. The Paramount DVD is long out-of-print, and the film is not available on Blu-ray, or through digital rental or streaming services. Fortunately I bought it on VUDU a few years ago before it disappeared digitally so I have been able to enjoy the film every now and then, but I’d pick up a Blu-ray or 4K UHD release to celebrate its 22nd anniversary day one.

It's a pleasant surprise and it makes perfect sense to me. I'm glad that Crossroads and the self-titled album are getting a cute little moment tied to the book release. Both are underrated gems. And it's especially encouraging to see Sony and RCA are capitalizing on it to push her catalogue. It was disappointing when they skipped the 20th anniversary of Britney. Hopefully more to come with the upcoming anniversary of In The Zone.

Cool to hear ILRNR will finally get an official remix. Hopefully the 'Overprotected' remix is also decent, it was disappointing how that didn't get a proper remix package after the Slave/Not A Girl one-two combo (actually the rest of the era was a disappointment remix-wise, at least in terms of wide release singles since we at least had the French remixes of 'Anticipating').

It's fun to imagine a Lady Marmalade with Britney on it, but I disagree with the idea that Britney could have swapped places with Mya. I think a lot of people underrate what Mya brings to Lady Marmalade, and don't realize that she is basically the one who strings the entire song together. She grounds the song so that P!nk and Christina can do their acrobatics. Britney's voice is too distinct and her tone too colorful to play that role, especially with the way she was singing her up tempos back then. We Will Rock You with Beyonce, P!nk, and Britney was sort of a mess because of all three having very distinct vocal styles at the time, and no one there to blend them all together.

I'm excited for this book. I feel like it's going to give Britney a good boost in the public relations department, that's needed after some of the tabloid stories and controversies of recent. It's sort of interesting to me that this book is being so heavily pushed and associated with the Britney era, which was also a moment where she was sort of at the top of the world, but also at this transition point to being very criticized. The era has some of her best performances in her entire career but is also one of her biggest under performances. 2001 - 2002 is the intersection of her greatest successes and also failures, professionally speaking.

She's always loved Crossroads, so it's nice to see it getting a re-release of sorts. It's sort of funny that she got better reviews for her stints on How I Met Your Mother and Will and Grace than she got for her own movie.

I don't even think Lady Marmalade sounds like something Britney would have done at the time.

And tbh for all the success it had it has never been a particularly great song. It's memorable because of the way it mixed some huge stars (and the Xtina/Pink feud lol).

Wasn't it also done during the time Brit was doing Crossroads? She was making big moves into acting (that they never worked out is another story...)

It doesn’t make sense though. The day before that post she said she’s in a beautiful location with Cade, which I am assuming is somewhere outside of California on vacation. Then the next day police are at her house questioning her?
