This is his first release for Island records, premiering today. No word on radio yet. Once that comes this should be moved to the Top 40/Pop forums. This is a very strong song with Nick's best vocals yet! www.complex.com/music/2014/07/nick-jonas-chains-premiereIt's a familiar cycle: young kid joins a boyband, becomes a teen heartthrob, band breaks up, kid gets a new look, and tries the solo route. Very few artists have been able to rise above their gimmicky pasts—and whether or not you loved N'Sync or Jonas Brothers or Backstreet Boys as a kid, you know the initial struggle to take anyone seriously as a solo artist is hard. For those who don't know, the Jonas Brothers broke up in October, and the youngest of the trio, Nick Jonas, is starting fresh and going the solo route. He's reportedly starring in DirecTV’s mixed martial arts drama Kingdom, he's now signed to Island Records, and is prepping a ton of new music, which he's teased on his Instagram. Today, we're premiering his new Jason Evigan-produced song called “Chains." “Everyone has their own chains, in life and in love, that bind them and this song embodies that feeling,” he said in an email. “I’m excited to be back to share this song with the world.”

This is pretty good. The verses remind me of Roxette's "Crash! Boom! Bang!". The chorus and production (during the chorus and afterwards) remind me of Justin Bieber's "As Long As You Love Me." I don't care for the dubstep style of production all that much, but the fusion of ambient EDM and dubstep with R&B works well.

Nick Jonas is ready to move on the next phase of his music career following the disbandment of the Jonas Brothers, and on Thursday (July 24), the youngest JoBro dropped an intriguing preview of his forthcoming solo full-length. Click here to listen to new single "Chains," which premiered on Complex. "Chains" is distinctly different from the Jonas Brothers' music, as well as Nick's music with the Administration -- silky vocals and a decisive R&B aesthetic made one Billboard staffer compare the track to a Miguel song when Jonas stopped by the Billboard office to play new music earlier this week. "Tryna break the chains, but the chains only break me," Jonas declares, desperately trying to position himself as an adult artist, and soundly succeeding. Produced by Jason Evigan, "Chains" is the first single from Jonas' forthcoming album on Island Records. It's also the first music Jonas has released since the Jonas Brothers scrapped a comeback tour and parted ways last October. The as-yet-untitled album will not feature the Administration, his backing band with whom he released an album, "Who I Am," in 2010. "Who I Am" has sold 179,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan. www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop-shop/6185733/nick-jonas-chains-single

LOVE THIS! Can't believe this is coming from a Jonas brother.
Any news on iTunes release? I need this!

This is.....actually not half bad. Great production. The vocals are weak though.

I heard the song today and I was wondering who it was. Can't believe I'm liking a Nick Jonas song.

I liked the majority of his solo album. He's a good artist.
Really liking this, too,

This is not bad. Nothing really beats Joe Jonas' "See No More" for Jonas solo stuff though.

This is such a surprise. Really good song. Sounds like something that JT will sing.

It reminds me of Bastille meets BANKS doing Enrique's "Heart Attack", and I'm in LOVE with it.

Love the video and the song. I also loved Joe's "See No More". I love his vocals, and he looks amazing...

Why are these male artists so conservative about taking off their shirts in music videos these days? I miss the days of 98 degrees.
Anyway, I like the video, haven't listened to the song yet since I'm at work.

I really like this! Nice to see that's he's grown up in a good way, unlike Justin Beiber, Miley Cyrus, etc.

Looks like this will be a part of Republic's Jingle Blitz campaign via Island, so expect an adds date soon.

I don't think "Teacher" is a hit anyway, but I've never been crazy about this. After hearing his album though, there's nothing I like even remotely as much as "Jealous" (which I LOVE). I feel like this may be a little low-key and lacking in terms of a strong hook for CHR/Pop.

This song is amazing! I'm glad this is going to get a date, but he needed to release Numb next then this.

I'm fine with this choice. I was kinda hoping for "Numb", but this'll do. Guessing this will be a moderate hit.

This is one of the most played tracks on my playlist this year but I don't know what to feel about this being a follow-up to Jealous. It's a great song but I think it would be better for him to keep it light and entertaining. Teacher would have been better IMO.

I like this song too, just surprised they are going to push it. I'd love to see "I Want You" as a single eventually, that's my favorite song on the album. I wouldn't mind seeing "Closer" (yes it's a bonus track, but it's nice), "Push", and/or "Teacher" becoming singles. "Numb" was cute the first 2 listens, but I don't care for it anymore.

I love the song and with the good buzz after Jealous it should do well (and it's perfect for a winter release)

(and it's perfect for a winter release) Exactly. It has the right type of vibe for this time of year There will probably be a remix issued with another artist at some point during the song's run. I would like to see an R&B star like Jhené Aiko join him. Her voice and her own style would go well with this song.

The first time i heard the song it remind me of The Weeknd (without all the swearing words). And i agree Jhené would fit perfectly on that song
