The set sold 259,000 copies in the week ending July 27, according to Nielsen SoundScan, following the album's release on July 22. It's the third-largest debut of 2014, and the fourth-largest sales week. (Coldplay's Ghost Stories debuted with the year's largest week, 383,000.) 5 Seconds of Summer's opening also marks the biggest debut for an act's first full-length album this year, and the largest for a group in nearly eight years. The last group to debut with a bigger bow was Daughtry, when its self-titled debut album started with 304,000 in the week ending Nov. 19, 2006. 5 Seconds of Summer's new album follows the group's four-song introductory EP, She Looks So Perfect, which debuted and peaked at No. 2 earlier this year (selling 143,000 in its first week). The band's homeland of Australia can also claim some amazing chart feats with the new album's debut: 5 Seconds of Summer is the first Australian act to debut at No. 1 with its first full-length album. It also logs the largest SoundScan-era sales opening for an Australian act's first album. (SoundScan began tracking data in 1991.) 5 Seconds of Summer is the second Australian act to top the Billboard 200 in 2014, following Sia, with 1000 Forms of Fear. The band is the first Australian group to hit No. 1 since AC/DC's Black Ice spent two weeks atop the tally in 2008 (on the charts dated Nov. 8 and 15). After 5 Seconds of Summer, the long-running Frozensoundtrack rises 5-2 on the Billboard 200, selling 37,000 (down 15 percent). The album is spending its 31st consecutive week in the top five. Last week's No. 1 album, "Weird Al" Yankovic's Mandatory Fun, falls 1-3 with 33,000 (down 68 percent). Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour rises 6-4 with 31,000 (down 12 percent), and Kidz Bop Kids' Kidz Bop 26 slips 4-5 with 27,000 (down 42 percent). Common's Nobody's Smiling is the chart's second-highest debut, starting at No. 5 with 24,000. It's the artist's third top 10 album, and highest-charting set since Finding Forever opened at No. 1 in 2007. Rock band Crown the Empire is up next on the Billboard 200, entering at No. 7 with The Resistance: Rise of the Runaways (slightly more than 24,000). It's the best sales week for the Rise Records act, which previously reached the Heatseekers Albums chart with the EP The Fallout. (It did not chart on the Billboard 200.) The Now 50 compilation is steady at No. 8 with 21,000 (down 8 percent), Jason Mraz's YES! tumbles 2-9 with 20,000 (down 75 percent), and Ed Sheeran's x descends 7-10 with slightly more than 20,000 (down 16 percent). Over on the Digital Songs chart, Jason Aldean's "Burnin' It Down" fires up at No. 1, debuting with 184,000 downloads sold. It's Aldean's first No. 1 on Digital Songs, and his third-largest sales week (following the 189,000 debut of "Take a Little Ride" in 2012 and a 189,000 frame for "Dirt Road Anthem" in 2011). The new single previews Aldean's upcoming studio album, which will arrive before the end of the year. Aldean bumps Magic's "Rude" from the No. 1 slot, as it falls to No. 2 with 154,000 (down 21 percent). Smith's "Stay With Me" dips 2-3 with 144,000 (down 12 percent), and Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX, slips 3-4 with 123,000 (down 21 percent). Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong" climbs 8-5 with 114,000 (up 18 percent), Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" bumps 18-6 with 103,000 (up 61 percent), and Maroon 5's "Maps" falls 6-7 with 103,000 (down 2 percent). Ariana Grande's "Problem," featuring Azalea, descends 5-8 with 100,000 (down 12 percent), Florida Georgia Line's "Dirt" moves 7-9 with 95,000 (down 3 percent), and Charli XCX's "Boom Clap" shifts 9-10 with 87,000 (down 5 percent). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending July 27) totaled 4.3 million units, down 2 percent compared with the sum last week (4.4 million) and down 9 percent compared with the comparable sales week of 2013(4.9 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 137.8 million, down 15 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (161.2 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 19.4 million downloads, down 5 percent compared with last week (20.4 million) and down 16 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (23.2 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 674.9 million, down 13 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (775.4 million).

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-10-facts-about-5-seconds-of-summer-193221134.html Chart Watch: 10 Facts About 5 Seconds Of SummerBy Paul Grein, Yahoo! Chart Watch 5 Seconds Of Summer's first full-length album, 5 Seconds Of Summer, sold a hefty 259K copies in its first week. That’s the third-biggest first-week sales tally so far this year, behind only Coldplay's Ghost Stories (383K) and Eric Church's The Outsiders (288K). To commemorate the big debut, here are 10 facts you may not know about 5S0S. 1. 5SOS is the first Australian act ever to enter The Billboard 200 at #1 with its first full-length album. 2. 5S0S is the second act from Australia to debut at #1 in the past three weeks. Sia opened at #1 two weeks ago with 1000 Forms Of Fear. 3. 5S0S is the first Australian group to debut at #1 since AC/DC landed in the top spot in October 2008 with Black Ice. Both groups hail from Sydney. 4. This is the largest one-week tally for an album by a pop group since One Direction's Midnight Memories sold 546K copies in its first week in December. 5S0S falls somewhere between a boy band like One Direction (with whom they have toured) and a power pop group. 5SOS’s album sold more copies in its first week than One Direction’s first album, Up All Night, sold in March 2012 (176K), though it fell short of the 500K+ first-week pace of One Direction’s second and third albums. 5. This is the highest first-week tally for a debut album since Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday opened at #2 in November 2010 with sales of 375K. (5 Seconds of Summer released a four-song EP in April, but this is its first full-length album.) 6. That EP, She Looks So Perfect, debuted and peaked at #2. It got stuck behind the Frozen soundtrack, which was then in its ninth week at #1. This week, they are in reverse order: 5SOS is on top and the inexhaustible Frozen soundtrack rebounds from #5 to #2. 7. This is the highest first-week tally for a group’s first debut album in nearly eight years; since Daughtry's eponymous debut album debuted at #2 in November 2006 with sales of 304K. 8. 5SOS has cracked the top 30 on the Hot 100 with four songs, but it has yet to land a top 10 hit, which would push its fame beyond its core following to the broad music-listening population. It came closest with “Amnesia,” which debuted and peaked at #16. 9. 5SOS is a finalist for “Artist To Watch” at the MTV Video Awards. The other nominees are ScHoolboy Q (which also had a #1 album earlier this year), Sam Smith (whose debut album has climbed as high as #2), Charli XCX and Fifth Harmony. 10. And you had to know this was coming: 5SOS is the second “summer act” to reach #1. The late Donna Summer had three #1 albums from 1978 through 1980. How does this compare with other seasons? One “fall act” (Fall Out Boy) has reached #1, as has one “spring act” (Bruce Springsteen). But no “winter acts” have achieved the feat. (The Edgar Winter Group came closest, reaching #3 in 1973 with They Only Come Out At Night.) Here are quick summaries of this week’s other top chart stories. Rapper and actor Common lands his third top 10 album, as Nobody’s Smiling debuts at #6 (24K). It follows Be (#2 in 2005) and Finding Forever (#1 in 2007). This is Common’s 10th studio album. He has appeared in nearly twice as many theatrical movies (19). He played himself in Brown Sugar and Dave Chappelle’s Block Party and has also acted in American Gangster and Date Night, among others. Crown the Empire's sophomore album, The Resistance: Rise Of The Runaways, debuts at #7 (24K). That’s light years beyond the metalcore band’s 2012 debut album, The Fallout, which didn’t crack The Billboard 200. Jason Mraz’s YES! tumbles from #2 to #9 in its second week, but it still ranks above the band Yes's Heaven & Earth, which debuts at #26. Ed Sheeran's x drops from #7 to #10 in its fifth week (20K). The album logs its fifth week at #1 on The Official U.K. Album Chart. This is the longest run at #1 in the U.K. since Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events logged 10 weeks on top in 2012-‘13. La Roux's Trouble In Paradise debuts at #20. Kierra Sheard's Graceland opens at #33. Both titles are recycled. Randy Newman's Trouble In Paradise reached #64 in 1983. (It spawned his big hit “I Love L.A.”) Paul Simon's classic Graceland peaked at #3 in April 1987. Coming Attractions: Look for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers to finally land their first #1 album next week with Hypnotic Eye. Current projections have the album selling about 90K copies in its first week. Also due: Eric Clapton & Friends’s The Breeze—An Appreciation Of J.J. Cale (40K), Shawn Mendes's Shawn Mendes (40K) and Theory Of A Deadman's Savages (20K).

Anberlin didn't make top ten. Fuck you all. They're breaking up and you can't even give them the decency of another Top 10.

Albums on the Billboard 200 that have not been certified with the RIAA:
Numbers from the chart:8/2
Arctic Monkeys 432k Pharrell 476k Katy Perry 1,443,000 Bastille 455k TobyMac 469k Drake 1,597,000 Ariana Grande 470k Fall Out Boy 608k Vampire Weekend 485k
Only albums over 425k and that have been on the chart for 4 weeks are listed.
When I first started doing the RIAA list in June 2007, the minimal figure was 350k.
Soon after, I switched it to 400k.
Now, most albums are certified Gold around 450k so I have upped my minimal figure to 425k.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/record-labels/6206814/billboard-200-chart-moves-jack-whites-vinyl-sales-still5 Seconds Of Summer Debuts At No. 1 On Billboard 200By Keith Caulfield | August 03, 2014 Of course, outside the top 10, there was lots of chart action. Let's take a look… -- Yes, Heaven & Earth (No. 26): The veteran band returns with its highest charting effort since 1991's Union peaked at No. 15. The new album is its first with lead singer Jon Davison. -- Jack White, Lazaretto (No. 27): With 60,000 vinyl albums sold (25 percent of its 238,000 total), it's the biggest selling vinyl LP of the year, and the biggest of any year since Pearl Jam's Vitalogy in 1994. (For comparison's sake, the second-biggest selling vinyl LP of 2014 is Arctic Monkeys' AM with 29,000. And, in 2013, the largest selling vinyl album was Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, with 49,000 sold.) -- R5, Heart Made Up On You (No. 36): The band’s new EP (8,000 sold) previews their forthcoming second full-length studio album, due out on Sept. 30. The act will head out on the road starting Sept. 3 in Orlando, Fla. -- Adele, 21 (No. 101): At the rate the album is selling (around 3,000 per week), its cumulative sales will exceed 11 million within three months. (21 has sold 10.97 million through July 27.) Only 11 albums have sold 11 million in the United States since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991. 21 has spent 179 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart (24 of those at No. 1), and will likely still be on the list when Adele’s forthcoming studio album arrives (possibly before the end of the year). -- Panic! At The Disco, Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die! (No. 122): The album tallies it third straight weekly sales gain (up 34 percent) and clocks its best sales frame (3,000) since April. Their tour with Walk the Moon launched on July 18 in Magna, Utah. -- Raveonettes, Pe’ahi (No. 161): The act released this album as a "surprise" on July 22. It starts with just over 2,000 sold. Their last set, 2012 Observator, bowed with almost 4,000 in its first week at No. 110. -- Chronixx, Dread & Terrible (No. 179): Courtesy of a July 22 performance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," the act's four-month-old album zooms onto the chart with a 470 percent increase and its best week yet (2,000, which is up from a few hundred copies the week previous). Over on the Reggae Albums chart, it jumps 3-1, securing its second week atop the list.

So happy 21 is nearing 11 million. I think if they promoted rumor a bit and released turning tables as a single it could be nearing 12 million instead

So happy 21 is nearing 11 million. More importantly, it's approaching Norah Jones' Come Away With Me on the all-time Soundscan list. By the end of 2014, 21 will be the best-selling album since The Beatles' 1.

21 I feel disproves the demise of album sales. It's simply because albums are so sloppily put together nowadays, you can tell which albums are really good because they actually... sell!
