2008 for this month. 2002 and 2010 are the two others I was considering. Again, I try to go with songs that peaked in 2008 (usually from February onward). "Watching Airplanes" I counted in 2007 so I left it off for 2008. Feel free to post your favorites and comments are always welcomed. :)
Favorites:
1. Letter To Me - Brad Paisley 2. Weight Of The World - Carolina Rain 3. When It Rains - Eli Young Band 4. American Radio - Carolina Rain 5. His Kind Of Money (My Kind Of Love) - Eric Church (why in the heck did this sputter out so quickly?) 6. Waitin' On A Woman - Brad Paisley 7. Do You Believe Me Now - Jimmy Wayne 8. Laughed Until We Cried - Jason Aldean 9. I Can Sleep When I'm Dead - Jason Michael Carroll 10. Falling Into You - Whiskey Falls 11. Life In A Northern Town - Sugarland w/Little Big Town & Jake Owen 12. Crazy Days - Adam Gregory 13. Rollin' With The Flow - Mark Chesnutt 14. Haven't done one of these in a while. 2008 was a struggle...nothing really stood out to me that year. It followed what had been some great years on country radio.
Best of the Year: "In Color" - Jamey Johnson "Last Call" - Lee Ann Womack "Troubadour" - George Strait "Small Town Southern Man" - Alan Jackson "Gunpowder and Lead" - Miranda Lambert
The Good: "All-American Girl" - Carrie Underwood "Another Try" - Josh Turner w/ Trisha Yearwood "Better As A Memory" - Kenny Chesney "Chicken Fried" - Zac Brown Band "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" - Darius Rucker "Faith In You" - Randy Travis "I Saw God Today" - George Strait "Just a Dream" - Carrie Underwood "Learning How To Bend" - Gary Allan "Relentless" - Jason Aldean "She Likes It In the Morning" - Clay Walker "Waitin' On A Woman" - Brad Paisley "You're Gonna Miss This" - Trace Adkins
Most Overplayed Songs of the Year: "All Summer Long" - Kid Rock "Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy) - Rodney Atkins "I'm Still A Guy" - Brad Paisley "Just Got Started Loving You" - James Otto
The Bad: "All I Want To Do" - Sugarland "Bob That Head" - Rascal Flatts "Come On Over" - Jessica Simpson (yes, that Jessica!) "Holler Back" - The Lost Trailers (how did this go top 10? I don't even remember this crap of a song) "It's America"- Rodney Atkins "Kristofferson" - Tim McGraw "She's A Hottie" - Toby Keith

The Bad:"Holler Back" - The Lost Trailers (how did this go top 10? I don't even remember this crap of a song) "Kristofferson" - Tim McGraw Agree on 2008 being a year that followed what I think was 4 pretty darn good year for country (2004-2007) with 2005 being the best among them. Therefore 2008 didn't stand out as much to me, but there were some very good songs that year. "Holler Back" went top 10 mainly because the Lost Trailers re-did their radio tour and built up a ton of good momentum. Then BNA launched "Holler Back" and radio jumped all over it. I'm still upset that "Call Me Crazy" and "Why Me" didn't take off in 2006. I still kind of like "Holler Back" though... I'm surprised someone disliked "Kristofferson". It was a horrible single choice (shocker, I know), but I always thought the song was pretty good. At that point "Train #10" and "Between The River And Me" were the only tracks that could have righted the wrong that was releasing "Suspicions".

^I think if someone else had sung "Kristofferson" I would've liked it more (someone with a little more dirt under their voice). Tim just bores me with this one and his voice isn't the right one for it. It should've never been considered an option for a single.

Then Mike Curb wanted "Kristofferson" released. That's why they were singles unfortunately. But that of course still leaves two pressing questions. Why in the world did they decide to release not one, but two more songs from that album? And why weren't those two "Train #10" and "Between The River And Me"?

Let it Go is probably my least favorite album in his repertoire, so I'm not sure what else I would've released from it. The production of the entire album feels very different, although the overall sound seemed to carry over into 2009's Southern Voice and Emotional Traffic. Maybe it had something to do with the ongoing struggle Tim was having at Curb Records, but some of the choices for album cuts just seem off. Anyways, "Suspicions" probably should've been included in my worst of category I had just forgot that it was released in late 2007 versus early 2007.

Anyways, "Suspicions" probably should've been included in my worst of category I had just forgot that it was released in late 2007 versus early 2007. I actually think Let It Go was a very good album and the different production set the album apart from previous work but in a good way. Live Like You Were Dying and Set This Circus Down were better but Let It Go was good itself. Southern Voice was probably my least favorite of his albums outside of "Still" and "You Had To Be There". Tim said he wanted to name his tenth album Train #10 and that the title track would have been the lead single or at worst the second single from the project. Unfortunately Curb decided at the last minute to release a 2nd Greatest Hits record and sent "When The Stars Go Blue" and "I've Got Friends That Do" at radio and radio chose the former as the lead single. There was bad blood brewing before that, but that happening was the first major bridge burned between Tim and Curb. And yeah, "Suspicions" was released to radio right around Thanksgiving of 2007 and peaked in early 2008.

A decent year for country music (provided country music with the exception of Taylor Swift was largely irrelevant that year)
Top 10 songs 1. Carrie Underwood Just A Dream 2. Julliane Hough That Song In My Head 3. Kenny Chesney Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven (guilty pleasure) 4. Sugarland All I Want To Do (if there was ever a song to get stuck in your head it's this) 5. Kenny Chesney Better As A Memory (this song for some reason gets me to cry every time) 6. Ashton Shepherd Sounds So Good 7. Jason Aldean Relentless 8. Miranda Lambert More Like Her (another song I just cry) 9. Lady Antebellum Love Don't Live Here 10. Sugarland Already Gone (life is a runaway train you can't wait to jump on, country music poetry right there Honorable Mentions Heidi Newfield Johnny & June, Trisha Yearwood This Is Me Your Talking To, Leann Rimes What I Cannot Change, David Nail I'm About To Come Alive, Lee Ann Womack Last Call, Reba McEntire & Kenny Chesney Every Other Weekend
Bottom 10 songs 1. Carrie Underwood Last Name 2. Keith Anderson I Still Miss You (it was everywhere that year) 3. Alan Jackson Country Boy 4. Craig Morgan International Harvester 5. Lost Trailers Holler Back 6. Dierks Bentley Trying To Stop Your Leaving (never kept my interest) 7. Phil Stacey If You Didn't Love Me 8. Taylor Swift Picture To Burn (one of the most off key performances of any genre I've ever heard) 9. Zac Brown Band Chicken Fried (this one is just so stupid) 10. Trace Adkins Your Gonna Miss This (never saw the appeal)

Bottom 10 songs 10. Trace Adkins Your Gonna Miss This (never saw the appeal) How could you possibly not see the appeal of this song? If you don't care for it you don't care for it, no problem there, but the message in this song is obvious and it's blatantly obvious to me why it touched so many people.

I never saw the appeal, as in I just found the song so overrated like I get what the song is about but my gosh "Your Gonna Miss This" was just so freaking overrated, it's stil, an instant station changer for me to this day.

I personally don't care for the song either. I also change the station everytime Kenny Chesney's Don't blink comes on. I already know how fast time flies I don't need a country song reminding me everyday, songs like that make me sad thinking about it.

If there is one song in 2008 I didn't hear until recently was Rascal Flatts "Winner At A Losing Game". What a beautiful song, and imo one of their more underrated songs of all time.
