www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6221958/guardians-of-the-galaxy-soundtrack-billboard-200-chart 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Soundtrack Spends Second Week At No. 1By Keith Caulfield | August 20, 2014 The Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack defends its position at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for a second week. The compilation album sold another 93,000 copies in the week ending Aug. 17, according to Nielsen SoundScan (down 15 percent from the week previous). Soundtracks have crowned the chart for 15 weeks in 2014 -- nearly half of the year so far. Earlier this year, the soundtrack to Frozen clocked 13 weeks atop the list. Speaking of Frozen, thanks to sale pricing in the iTunes Store, the album rebounds 8-3 on the Billboard 200, selling 43,000 (up 53 percent). It sits behind the non-moving Now 51 various-artists compilation at No. 2, which sold 52,000 (down 45 percent). With the Now 51 album at No. 2, all of the top three albums are multi-artist projects for the first time since the April 11, 2009 chart. That week, Now 30 debuted at No. 1, followed by an also-arriving Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack at No. 2. The first Twilight soundtrack held firm at No. 3. Back on the new Billboard 200, The Gaslight Anthem's Get Hurt is the chart's highest new entry, debuting at No. 4 with 33,000 sold. It's the second top 10 effort for the rock band, which hit No. 3 with its last studio set, 2012's Handwritten. Nineteen-year-old YouTuber Troye Sivan starts at No. 5 with his new EP, TRXYE, selling 30,000 copies after only three days of sales. The five-song set was exclusively available as a download and also debuts at No. 2 on the Digital Albums chart (behind Guardians of the Galaxy). Sivan's album was released Friday, Aug. 15, instead of the usual Tuesday, so that the set would have a global release date. Friday is the day when new albums are released in Australia, where Sivan is based. He signed with EMI Australia in June 2013, and his EP was released on Capitol Records in the United States. Five Seconds of Summer's self-titled album dips one position to No. 6, with 27,000 (down 24 percent); Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour rises 9-7 with 26,000 (down 3 percent); and Godsmack's 1000HP falls 3-8 in its second week with 21,000 (down 63 percent). Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' Hypnotic Eye descends 6-9 with 20,000 (down 41 percent), and Luke Bryan's Crash My Party rises 12-10 with 19,000 (up 19 percent). Bryan's album, like Frozen, was also discounted in the iTunes Store. Over on the Digital Songs chart, Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" stays put at No. 1, selling 239,000 downloads (up 21 percent), while the diva team-up of Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj with "Bang Bang" holds at No. 2 with 131,000 (down 7 percent). Iggy Azalea's "Black Widow," featuring Rita Ora, rises 7-3 with 125,000 (up 17 percent); Grande's "Break Free," featuring Zedd, zooms 14-4 with 116,000 (up 54 percent); and Smith's "Stay With Me" dips 4-5 with 105,000 (down 15 percent). The highest debut on the chart is Grande's "Best Mistake," featuring Big Sean, which enters at No. 6 with 104,000. With the arrival of “Best Mistake” alongside "Bang Bang" and "Break Free," Grande is the first female artist to have three songs in the top six of the chart at the same time. The last artist to notch three in the region was Michael Jackson, who achieved the feat shortly after his death (on the chart dated July 18, 2009). Magic’s "Rude" falls 5-7 with 104,000 (down 15 percent), and Clean Bandit's "Rather Be," featuring Jess Glynne, jumps 12-8 with 95,000 (up 12 percent). Jason Aldean's "Burnin' It Down" moves 6-9 with a little more than 93,000 (down 13 percent), and Sia's "Chandelier" hangs out at No. 10 for another week with 93,000 (up 3 percent). Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Aug. 10) totaled 4.1 million units, down 4 percent compared with the sum last week (4.3 million) and down 19 percent compared with the comparable sales week of 2013 (5.1 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 150.5 million, down 15 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (176.1 million). Digital track sales this past week totaled 19.6 million downloads, down 3 percent compared with last week (20.2 million) and down 15 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (23.1 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 735.1 million, down 13 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (843.3 million). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2013 when: Bryan's Crash My Party held at No. 1 for a second week (159,000; down 70 percent) while John Mayer's Paradise Valley debuted at No. 2 with 144,000. Frozen kept Gaslight Anthem from getting to No. 3. >:( Album sales at 4.1 million, matching the rounded-off SoundScan-era low. I imagine if it were the lo, it would have been mentioned?

Might be mentioned in the Friday notable albums article.
Just checked.
The last record low was 4.046 million.
Looks like we are above that this week!

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/guardians-of-the-galaxy-awesome-mix-vol-1-is-1-212200204.html Chart Watch: Two Soundtracks In Top ThreeBy Paul Grein, Yahoo! Chart Watch Guardians Of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix, Vol. 1 is #1 for the second week (93K). Now 51 holds at #2 for the second week (52K). Frozen rebounds from #8 to #3 in its 38th week (43K), boosted by a $5.99 sale at iTunes. This marks the first time in more than five years that soundtracks to theatrically-released movies have held down two of the top three positions. It last happened in the week ending March 29, 2009, when Miley Cyrus's Hannah Montana: The Movie debuted at #2 and Twilight held at #3 in its 21st week. Guardians is #1 on both Top Soundtracks and Top Digital Albums for the third week. It’s the first soundtrack to spend its first three weeks at #1 on the digital chart since Juno, which spent its first six weeks on top of that chart in 2006-2007. This is the 32nd non-consecutive week in the top five on The Billboard 200 for Frozen. That’s the best showing by a soundtrack to a theatrically-released movie since Dirty Dancing logged 43 consecutive weeks in the top five in 1987-‘88. Both albums spawned Oscar-winning songs: Idina Menzel's “Let It Go” and Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes's “(I've Had) The Time Of My Life,” respectively. The Gaslight Anthem's fifth studio album, Get Hurt, debuts at #4 (33K). It’s the band’s second album in a row to make the top five. Handwritten debuted and peaked at #3 in July 2012. Troye Sivan's digital-only EP, TRYXE, debuts at #5 (30K). Sivan, 19, is an actor and You Tube sensation. He played Young James Howlett in the 2009 movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. For those of you keeping track, this is the sixth EP to hit the top 10 this year, following EPs by 5 Seconds Of Summer, Luke Bryan, Austin Mahone, Shawn Mendes and The Vamps. Luke Bryan's Crash My Party rebounds from #12 to #10 in its 53rd week (19K), also boosted by that $5.99 sale at iTunes. It holds at #1 on Top Country Albums for the 13th week. That’s the longest run at #1 for an album by a male solo artist since Kenny Chesney's When The Sun Goes Down logged 14 weeks on top in 2004. Ed Sheeran's x dips from #11 to #12 its eighth week (19K). The album is #1 on The Official U.K. Albums Chart for the eighth week. That’s the longest run on top for an album by a male artist since James Blunt's Back To Bedlam spent 10 weeks on top in 2005-2006. Every other album since 2006 that has spent eight or more weeks at #1 in the U.K. has been by a female artist: Adele, Emeli Sande or Leona Lewis. Tank's sixth solo studio album, Stronger, debuts at #13. All but one of these albums have made the top 20. Robin Williams's 2010 album Weapons Of Self Destruction debuts at #63 (5K), a week after his shocking death. It’s #1 on Top Catalog Albums, displacing Boston's Greatest Hits. It’s the first comedy album to reach #1 on the catalog chart since Larry The Cable Guy's A Very Larry Christmasin November 2006. (Discounting comedy Christmas albums, a narrow niche, it’s the first comedy album to top the catalog chart since Dane Cook’sHarmful If Swallowed in July 2006.) Coming Attractions:Look for Wiz Khalifa's Blacc Hollywood to vie for #1 next week with the Guardians Of The Galaxy soundtrack. Both albums are expected to sell in the 70K range. Also due: Chase Rice's Ignite The Night (about 37K), Nashville Outlaws: A Tribute To Motley Crue (about 28K) and Ace Frehley's Space Invader (about17K).

If Paul Grein discounted all "narrow niches" there wouldn't be many albums left on chart. The ridiculous part of that analogy is that it only made a 4 MONTH difference. Big deal! I was expecting something far more in the distant past. I'm surprised that RW only sold 5K - it seemed to be pretty high on iTunes and Amazon most of the week.
