"She's All I Ever had" had a CD single, so sales propelled it to No. 2. It did, though, peak at No. 7 on Hot 100 Airplay.

True, I doubt many people even know that Sam Smith is gay and singing about a man in Stay With Me.

True, I doubt many people even know that Sam Smith is gay and singing about a man in Stay With Me. I would think that the combo of a male singer and the subject matter make it pretty obvious...the song makes it seem like this guy has had many one-night stands where his partner is gone after getting theirs. Not to say that the female sex is incapable of meaningless hookups, but I think sensitive straight guys who've managed to get laid pretty early in the course of things don't have the recurring problem of the ladies wanting to bolt before morning despite his tender pleas (unless he's a terrible lay, into something too weird or a stage-five clinger). If he were singing about constantly being friendzoned, then it would be a bit more of a mystery. But I'm sure most listeners don't think about it too deeply.

I have one that uses 6: Taylor Swift --> BOB ("both of us") --> Hayley Williams ("airplanes") --> Zedd ("stay the night") --> Ariana Grande ("break free") --> Nicki Minaj ("Bang Bang") Lil' Wayne ("Strange Clouds") -> Nicki Minaj (a lot of collabs) There's a shorter one There's one EVEN shorter Taylor Swift --> BOB --> Nicki Minaj (Out of My Mind)

Top 10 flashbacks for this week 15 years ago (9/18/1999)
1 2 Unpretty - TLC (1st week of 3 @ #1)2 1 Bailamos - Enrique Iglesias 3 3 Summer Girls - LFO 4 18 She's All I Ever Had - Ricky Martin 5 4 Genie In A Bottle - Christina Aguilera 6 5 Lost In You - Chris Gaines (Garth Brooks) 7 6 Smooth - Santana feat. Rob Thomas 8 7 All Star - Smash Mout 9 8 Where My Girls At? - 702 10 10 Someday - Sugar Ray I see some people like this top 10, but I don't really use any of these songs anymore. Most are either "dated" (at least half), repetitive ("GIAB" is a repeated loop), or just bad. "Smooth" is good. I like this top 10 a lot more: I still listen to all of those songs! LOL! In particular Drive, The Glamorous Life, and Cruel Summer are killer singles. I also love this top 10: The only one there I don't use is the lame Surface song, though I can see where some of those (like Milli Vanilli, Warrant, and NKOTB) don't play as well if you weren't around then. Still, some of those are killer singles for any era.

Over on the Digital Songs chart, Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" regains the No. 1 slot, rising one rung, selling 312,000 downloads (up 17 percent). Last week's leader, Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off," dips to No. 2 with 281,000 (down 21 percent) in its third chart week. "Shake" has now sold 1.2 million downloads. Jessi J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj's "Bang Bang" is steady at No. 3 with 170,000 (down 30 percent) and Iggy Azalea's "Black Widow," featuring Rita Ora, rises 5-4 with 143,000 (down 24 percent). Minaj's "Anaconda" descends 4-5 with 130,000 (down 31 percent), Grande's "Break Free," featuring Zedd, jumps 8-6 with 95,000 (down 20 percent) and Sam Smith's "Stay With Me" is stationary at No. 7 with 84,000 (down 33 percent). Clean Bandit's "Rather Be," featuring Jess Glynne, returns to the top 10 after a week away, rising 12-8 with 82,000 (down 4 percent). MAGIC!'s "Rude" zips 17-9 with 81,000 (up 21 percent) and Sia's "Chandelier" swings back into the top 10, climbing 11-10 with 79,000 (down 12 percent). Digital track sales this past week totaled 19.13 million downloads, down 6 percent compared with last week (20.27 million) and down 14 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (22.33 million). Year to date track sales are at 793.75 million, down 13 percent compared to the same total at this point last year (910.33 million). www.billboard.com/biz/articles/6244199/maroon-5-tops-billboard-200-with-v

Sales estimates 1. All About That Bass 335,000 312,000 2. Shake It Off 317,000 281,000 3. Bang Bang 192,000 170,000 4. Black Widow 149,000 143,000 5. Anaconda 144,000 130,000 What are there estimates based on? They seem good with the rankings, but the sales are off by a decent amount.

True, I doubt many people even know that Sam Smith is gay and singing about a man in Stay With Me. Nah, don't think he has much of an image at all unless people saw him on TV. Never seen him - liked Latch, loathed SWM - automatic switch on Sirius.

Wow, didn't know that Ciara's "Goodies" spent 7 weeks at the top. Really enjoyed that song at the time of its release.

This is the most notable margin of error I've seen in a while with Kworb. But what's weird to me is that he overestimated every album. Considering he's only (to my knowledge) looking at iTunes data while Billboard should be looking at all retailers (they're not significant, but I'd have to imagine Amazon, Google, etc = SOME downloads for the major songs), shouldn't he always underreport?

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6244214/meghan-trainor-tops-hot-100-all-about-that-bassMeghan Trainor Tops Hot 100 With 'All About That Bass'By Gary Trust | September 10, 2014 t's all about Meghan Trainor on this week's Billboard Hot 100, as her debut hit "All About That Bass" crowns the tally with a 2-1 climb. The positive-body image hit (the 1,039th No. 1 in the Hot 100's 56-year history) displaces Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off," which spent the past two weeks (the song's first two frames on the chart) at No. 1. "You know how the bass guitar in a song is like its 'thickness,' the 'bottom'? I kind of related a body to that," Trainor told Billboard as "Bass" began its Hot 100 climb in July. "My producer [Kevin Kadish] had the title and said that none of his prior co-writers could figure out what to relate that to. So, I said, 'What about a booty? Let's talk about that!' From there, it turned into, let's do a song about loving your body … and your booty." As we do each Wednesday (the day that the sales/airplay/streaming-based Hot 100 is compiled each week), let's run down the numbers behind the chart's top 10. Trainor's single, which mixes its message with dashes of doo-wop and early '60s girl-group harmonies, reaches the Hot 100's apex as the top Digital, Streaming and Airplay Gainer. It rebounds 2-1 for a third week atop Digital Songs with 312,000 sold, up 17 percent, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Helping stir publicity for the song: Trainor performed it on NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Sept. 4 as the latest entry in his running bit that makes over hits with classroom instruments. "Bass" holds at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (which it led for a week), up by 7 percent to 13.1 million U.S. streams, according to Nielsen BDS. It returns to the top of the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart (2-1, marking its second week in charge), although with a 6 percent dip to 3.3 million. The song pushes 9-6 on Radio Songs with a 26 percent leap to 103 million in all-format audience. It's the first debut Hot 100 entry by a woman (in a lead role) to link four straight weeks as the top Airplay Gainer since Ashanti strung together six weeks with "Foolish" in 2002. Trainor's Hot 100 takeover is only part of a big week for the 20-year-old: she released her debut four-song EP, Title, on Tuesday. The set is due on next week's Billboard 200. Other highlights of Trainor's Hot 100 coronation: "Bass" is the second debut No. 1 by a lead female artist this year, following Iggy Azalea's seven-week reign with "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX. The last year in which two maiden entries by women in lead roles ruled the Hot 100? 2008, when Leona Lewis ("Bleeding Love") and Katy Perry ("I Kissed a Girl") each dominated on their first tries. "Bass" also brings acclaim to Trainor's label, Epic. It's Epic's first Hot 100 leader since Sean Kingston's fellow debut hit "Beautiful Girls" in 2007 (which Koch co-promoted with Epic). "Bass" is Epic's first No. 1 by a woman since Shakira's own ode to seductive shaking, "Hips Don't Lie," in 2006. The last lead female artist on Epic to take a debut hit to the top of the Hot 100? Minnie Riperton, whose soul classic "Lovin' You" led the April 5, 1975 list. (The late Riperton's daughter is actress Maya Rudolph.) Trainor additionally makes her home state proud, joining other Massachusetts-born acts that have led the Hot 100, including Donna Summer, Bobby Brown, Aerosmith, Extreme and New Kids on the Block. (The latter group reigned 25 years ago this week with "Hangin' Tough.") While those acts are all from the Boston area, Trainor is from the island of Nantucket, off the coast of Cape Cod. She's now based in Nashville. (Trainor also swats the Hot 100's first No. 1 "Bass" hit. The second-highest-peaking song with "bass" in its title: Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass," which reached No. 3 in 2011.) As "Bass" tops the Hot 100, Swift's "Shake" slips 1-2 after two weeks at the summit. The song drops 1-2 on Digital Songs (281,000, down 21 percent). Still, it passes a million in sales, having moved 1.18 million in its first three weeks. "Shake" falls 4-6 on Streaming Songs (7 million, down 20 percent) and holds at No. 7 on Radio Songs with a 16 percent surge to 102 million. With "Bass" up by 14 percent in overall points and "Shake" down by 14 percent, the former could be set up for a comfortable stay atop the Hot 100. Minaj's "Anaconda" keeps at No. 3 for a second week after reaching No. 2 two weeks ago (marking her highest Hot 100 rank). The cut spends a third week atop Streaming Songs but decreases by 24 percent to 13.1 million (just slightly higher than the sum for "Bass"). "Anaconda" retreats 4-5 on Digital Songs (130,000, down 31 percent) and slithers 40-36 on Radio Songs (35 million, up 11 percent). It logs a third week at No. 1 on both Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Rap Songs. Minaj again scores a second concurrent hit in the Hot 100's top five, as "Bang Bang," by Minaj, Jessie J and Ariana Grande, holds at its No. 4 highpoint. The divas' collab keeps at No. 3 on Digital Songs (170,000, down 30 percent) and Streaming Songs (7.9 million, down 28 percent), while lifting 19-16 on Radio Songs (57 million, up 8 percent). Rounding out the Hot 100's top five, Azalea's "Black Widow," featuring Rita Ora, reaches the region (6-5), highlighted by its entrance in the Radio Songs top 10 (13-10; 79 million, up 16 percent). The track rebounds 5-4 on Digital Songs (143,000, down 24 percent) and reaches the Streaming Songs top five (6-4; 7.4 million, down 9 percent). Sam Smith's No. 2-peaking "Stay With Me" backtracks 5-6 on the Hot 100 and tallies a fifth week at No. 1 on Radio Songs (144 million, down 4 percent). (His new single, just announced, is "I'm Not the Only One.") MAGIC!'s former six-week No. 1 "Rude" reverses course 8-7, while Grande's "Break Free," featuring Zedd, descends 7-8 (after rising to No. 4) and leads Hot Dance/Electronic Songs for a fourth week. Maroon 5's No. 6-peaking "Maps" returns to the Hot 100's top 10 (11-9), as parent album V debuts atop the Billboard 200. As announced this morning, Grande and Maroon 5 will be the first two musical guests on the new season of NBC's Saturday Night Live on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, respectively (alongside respective hosts Chris Pratt and Sarah Silverman). Closing out the top 10, Sia's "Chandelier," which has reached a No. 8 high, drops to No. 10.

Disappointing for Boom Clap. Good chance #10 is the ceiling, which doesn't at all do the success of that song justice.

Nice. I thought Anaconda and Bang Bang would switch places. Me too, didn't imagine that BB would suffer such steep declines on streaming and sales. I can't wait to clear out some of the brush from the Top 10 - SWM, Rude, Chandelier can exit please. Maps will be gone because it got a little surge from "V's" release.

From Paul Grein's Chart Watch:
Female artists make a clean sweep of the top five positions on the Hot 100 for the first time in more than 2-1/2 years. Nicki Minaj's aforementioned “Anaconda” holds at #3 in its fifth week. “Bang Bang” by Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj holds at #4 in its sixth week. “Black Widow” by Iggy Azalea featuring Rita Ora jumps from #6 to #5 in its 10th week.
This marks the first time that female artists have locked up the entire top five since the week ending Feb. 19, 2012. Katy Perry's “Part Of Me” debuted at #1 that week, followed by Adele's “Set Fire To The Rain,” Whitney Houston's “I Will Always Love You,” Kelly Clarkson's “Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)” and Adele's “Rolling In The Deep.” (That was the first full week following both Houston's death and Adele's sweep of the Grammys).

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-meghan-trainor-giant-slayer-204426293.htmlChart Watch: Meghan Trainor, Giant SlayerBy Paul Grein, Yahoo! Chart Watch When Taylor Swift's instant smash “Shake It Off” entered the Hot 100 at #1 two weeks ago, it looked like Meghan Trainor would have to be content with a #2 hit on her first try. Trainor’s charming, doo-wop shaded “All About That Bass,” which had been streaking up the chart, slipped from #2 to #3 that week. (It was pushed down not only by “Shake It Off” but also by Nicki Minaj's surging “Anaconda.”) But this week, in a pop chart equivalent of David and Goliath, the talented rookie unseats one of the biggest stars in the music business. "Shake It Off" climbs to #1 in its ninth week. "Shake It Off" slips to #2 in its third week. (Consolation prize: Swift’s hit tops the 1 million mark in digital sales this week.) This marks the second time this year that a female artist has reached #1 with her first Hot 100 single (as a lead artist). The same thing happened in June with Iggy Azalea's “Fancy” (which featured chart “sophomore” Charli XCX). Billboard’s Gary Trust notes that this is the first time that two female artists in lead roles have reached #1 with their initial Hot 100 hits since 2008, when both Leona Lewis (“Bleeding Love”) and Katy Perry (“I Kissed A Girl”) did it. "All About That Bass," which focuses on the importance of a positive body image, is one of the biggest and best "message songs" of recent years. The video is sure to be a leading candidate for Best Video With A Social Message at next year’s VMAs. Over the past four years, the award has gone to Lady Gaga's “Born This Way,” Demi Lovato's “Skyscraper,” Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert's “Same Love” and Beyonce's “Pretty Hurts.” "All About That Bass" returns to #1 on Hot Digital Songs (312K) after being held out of the top spot the past two weeks by "Shake It Off." This is the song’s third week on top. Here are a few more details on these current hits: “Anaconda” holds at #1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for the third week. “Bang Bang” and “Black Widow” each top the 1 million mark in digital sales this week. Also, “Black Widow” becomes Azalea’s third top five hit on the Hot 100 so far this year. This puts her in a tie with Ariana Grande for the most top five hits by any artist so far this year. The highest-ranking male artist on the Hot 100 is again Sam Smith, whose “Stay With Me” dips from #5 to #6 in its 22nd week. The song peaked at #2. It logs its fifth week at #1 on the Radio Songs chart. MAGIC!'s “Rude” rebounds from #8 to #7 in its 20th week. The song spent six weeks at #1 … “Break Free” by Ariana Grande featuring Zedd dips from #7 to #8 in its 10th week. The song peaked at #4. Maroon 5's “Maps” rebounds from #11 to #9 in its 12th week. The group lands its second #1 album this week with V. “Maps” has climbed as high as #6, which puts it in the middle of the pack in terms of lead singles from Maroon 5 albums. “Harder To Breathe,” the first single from their debut album, peaked at #18. “Makes Me Wonder,” the first single from their sophomore album, made #1. “Misery,” the first single from their third album, peaked at #14. “Payphone” (featuring Wiz Khalifa), the first single from their fourth album, reached #2. Sia's “Chandelier” dips from #9 to #10 in its 18th week. It peaked at #8. Charli XCX's “Boom Clap” drops out of the top 10—for the second time. Florida Georgia Line's “Cruise” tops the 7 million mark in digital sales this week. It's the best-selling country hit in digital history. The song logged 24 weeks at #1 on Hot Country Songs, longer than any other song in the chart's 70-year history. A remix featuring Nelly reached #4 on the Hot 100. "Problem" by Ariana Grande featuring Iggy Azalea tops the 3 million mark in digital sales this week. It logged five weeks at #2 on the Hot 100. To My Readers: I’ll have a second Chart Watch blog drawn from the Hot 100 later today.

Is the "Rude" rebound (on Digital and Hot 100) tied to the Zedd remix? I assume that counts...
[/quote]
Is that a stat really worth mentioning? 2.5 years isn't all that long for a feat like this... Feel like Billboard & Grein get very "milestone" happy in their reports.
