What are some of your favorite quotes by country artists that aren't necessarily lyrics? Heres my favs to start
1. Kris Kristofferson- "Tell the truth, sing with passion, work with laughter, love with heart, cause thats all that matters in the end"
2. Gary Allan- "I don't want to hear a song about how sunshiny things are. I don't like songs that feel like radio candy. I like the ones that make you think, laugh, or cry- they pull some kind of emotion out of you"
3. Johnny Cash- "When I record somebody else's song, i have to make it my own or it doesn't feel right. I'll say to myself, i wrote this and he doesn't know it!"

Good topic.
"Country music is three chords and the truth." - Harlan Howard
“Who do you think you are? You’re the son-of-a-bitch that sat at that desk over there and fired Johnny Cash. Let it go down in history that you’re the dumbest son-of-a-***** I’ve ever met.” - Merle Haggard, to a CBS Records Executive
"Sometimes you don't realize how true country songs are until you find yourself in the middle of one." - Hank Williams, Jr.
"“Not all country music has to sound like Hank Williams … but some of it should.” - Alan Jackson
I've seen these all over the Internet and have always gotten a kick out of them, although some may be apocryphal.

A lot of good quotes here. Got a good laugh out of the one Merle said to a CBS Records Executive. Just another reason why Hag is a badass! I don't know too many but have always liked these ones:
"Country music is music with a lot of class. It's just ordinary stories told by ordinary people in a extraordinary way." - Dolly Parton
"A good country song takes a page out of somebody's life and puts it to music." - Conway Twitty
"You ask what makes our kind of music successful. I'll tell you. It can be explained in just one word: Sincerity." - Hank Williams
"Country songs are the dreams of the working man." - Merle Haggard

Some more:
Dierks Bentley- "I tried to make an album that reflects what I love about country music. It's not just all about happy parties all the time. There are some sad songs"
Merle Haggard- "There's a rumor that there may be an attempt at organizing a possible script for a series on my life, which when you look at my police record, you'd have to have more than one hour to tell the story"
Miranda Lambert- "If you don't stand for something, how can anyone respect what you do?"
Brian Kelley- "I don't know one girl who doesn't want to be the girl in a country song" ............ok maybe not that one

Dolly Parton is full of good one-liners.
"It costs a lot of money to look this cheap." "Don't get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life." "I was the first woman to burn my bra - it took the fire department four days to put it out." "I want to go and go, and then drop dead in the middle of something I'm loving to do. And if that doesn't happen, if I wind up sitting in a wheelchair, at least I'll have my high heels on." "My weaknesses have always been food and men - in that order." "It's a good thing I was born a girl, otherwise I'd be a drag queen." "People always ask me how long it takes to do my hair. I don’t know, I’m never there." "If you talk bad about country music, it's like saying bad things about my momma. Them's fightin' words." "If I see something saggin', baggin', or draggin', I'm gone have it nipped, tucked, or sucked!"
She's the best. <3

"I'm not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I'm not dumb... and I also know that I'm not blonde." - Dolly Parton
“ “I think it needs to sound like a country song from a country singer, believable as a country song. If it can fit in other genres 100 percent of the time, then you should probably look at what that really is.” - Joe Nichols
“ I’ve always said country music is the only genre that hates itself. It wants to be everything else, but country music.”- Sammy Kershaw
"The most Outlaw thing you can do in Nashville right now is play country music." - Marty Stuart
"But it's like we've gone from making music to making something else. The things that make country unique are what make it cool. But no one's interested in doing that anymore. It seems like people don't give two shits about country music but they move [to Nashville] and make what they want to make."- Lee Ann Womack
“Gay or straight? So what? It doesn't matter to me. We have to be concerned about other people regardless.” - Willie Nelson
“I’ve gotta be honest, I don’t really listen to the radio at all anymore. Once in a while, I’ll scan it and I don’t understand what they’re doing. I can’t find the entertainment in it. I know these guys, occasionally play shows with them and they’re all good people. But I wonder if that record they’re making is something they can actually do. Too much boogie boogie wham-bam and not enough substance. " - Merle Haggard
